(Modern age in English literature)
The modern age in English literature
started from the beginning of the twentieth
century, it was an age of complexity and
contradiction, progress in all fields like:
industry and inventions, so a new
horizons appeared in life.

3. In this presentation we are going to present
some of the factors that lead to the changes in
the twentieth century novels:
1- first world war
2- science
3- religion
4- industry
5- some pictures of famous writers are their books.

4. The first world war
• The first world war.
The First World War or the great
war was a global war centered in
Europe that began on 28 July
1914 and lasted until 11
November 1918. It was one of
the deadliest conflicts in history
and paved the way for major
political changes, including
revolution of the nation involved.
Also left the Britain empire so
weak to control its colonies.

5. Science
Science advanced dramatically during
the century. There were new and radical
developments in the physical, life and
human sciences, building on the
progress made in the 19th century.men
of science substituted philosophers also
became the chief intellectuals. Spiritual
values were thrown into the background
and replaced by material values.

6. Religion
In religion people are no longer involved into
spirituality matters but into intellectual matters
because they have become suspicious about
religious and spiritual issues ,there start a strong
feeling of resentment against christianity as it had
failed to serve as a panacea to the ills of mankind.

society
Developments in 19th-century Europe are bounded by two great events.
The French Revolution broke out in 1789, and its effects reverberated
throughout much of Europe for many decades. World War I began in 1914.
Its inception resulted from many trends in European society, culture, and
diplomacy during the late 19th century. In between these boundaries—the
one opening a new set of trends, the other bringing long-standing tensions
to a head—much of modern Europe was defined.

8. This paper uses census data to examine the distinction between ethnic
economy effects and industry effects in the New York SMSA. Focusing only
on employees, I compare the attainments of “insiders,” that is, of ethnics
within their ethnic economy industries, with the attainment of “outsiders” in
the same industries.
I find little difference. I then examine whether the industries in which ethnic
economies are embedded offer all incumbents significantly different
outcomes than do non-ethnic economy industries. In slightly over half the
industries associated with an ethnic economy, earnings were significantly
higher than average; no effect on occupational status was uncovered. These
results suggest that industrial location is more consequential than being an
“insider.”

question everything instead of taking things for granted . So ,
