1) The document discusses theories of creation, focusing on the "gap theory" and "six-day theory".
2) It analyzes biblical passages in Exodus and Nehemiah that reference God creating heaven and earth in six days, finding they support a six-day creation rather than two distinct creation events.
3) Scientific evidence for an old earth and universe is acknowledged but criticized for relying on assumptions like constant decay rates that may not be valid, bringing estimated ages into question. Evidence for a young earth based on the decaying magnetic field and problems with carbon-14 dating is presented instead.

This document provides a summary of an article from the Review and Herald publication dated August 14, 1883. It discusses the importance of Christian temperance as an element of the Christian character that helps believers run the race and fight the good fight of faith. It notes that while God's commands aim to protect human well-being and happiness, violations of physical law inevitably lead to suffering, disease and death. The article encourages denying unhealthy appetites and practices that undermine health and strength, just as athletes train with self-discipline, so believers can overcome to receive an eternal reward.

This document contains a summary of a longer article that discusses the uncertainty of geological science, particularly as it relates to the use of fossils for dating rock formations and determining sequences of strata. It notes that fossils themselves provide no inherent way to date the formations they are found in. Similarity of fossils in distant formations does not prove they are from the same time period. Discoveries by Barrande showed that some fossil types thought to indicate a specific geological period can be found in formations from different periods, undermining the use of fossils alone to determine sequences. The summary concludes that given these uncertainties, the degree of reliability in the progress and classifications of modern geology based primarily on fossil evidence is questionable.
This document is the August 7, 1883 issue of the Seventh-day Adventist periodical The Review and Herald. It contains several articles and contributions related to Adventist theology and doctrine. The main article discusses the uncertainty of geological science, examining claims from a geology textbook about assumptions regarding uniformity of geological processes and the age of the Earth. It argues the foundations of geology are based on assumptions that may be erroneous. A second article addresses the Pharisees' tradition of hand washing and argues Christ's words do not justify harmful substances like tobacco.
This document discusses various topics related to biblical creationism and challenges to an old earth view from the perspective of real science. It begins with an overview of biblical timelines from Adam to the exile and return. It then covers the history of geology and how geology is often taught, emphasizing an old earth viewpoint. Next, it discusses commonly used geological dating methods like strata layering and index fossils, highlighting problems with these methods and how they better support a global flood model. Living index fossils that contradict their supposed extinct dates are also presented as evidence against this dating method. Overall, the document promotes a young earth creationist perspective and critiques aspects of modern geology.
The document discusses the history of determining the age of the Earth. Early estimates ranged from thousands to billions of years based on different methods and assumptions. In the late 19th century, radioactive dating methods were developed that provided evidence the Earth was millions to billions of years old, conflicting with a literal reading of the Bible. This sparked debates around assumptions made in dating methods and their application to estimating the Earth's age. While techniques have improved, disagreement remains on interpreting results within biblical or long-age frameworks.
This document discusses biblical creationism and provides a summary of a presentation on biological sciences from a biblical creationist perspective. It defines evolution as a religion that has influenced various scientific fields. It reviews biblical passages about science and origins. It compares the biblical and evolutionary views on the origin of life. It summarizes the evolving theories of evolutionary scientists regarding how life originated on Earth and outlines various scientific issues and problems with evolutionary origin theories.
Geologists used various dating methodologies involving ocean chemistry, erosion rates, and radiometric dating to determine that the Earth is billions of years old, contradicting earlier estimates by physicists like Kelvin of only millions of years based on cooling models. The discovery of radioactivity provided a major new heat source inside the Earth and revealed processes like radioactive decay that allowed for much older dating of rocks and minerals, establishing the age of the Earth to be over 4 billion years.

Explaining The age of Dinosaur fossils from Biblical point of viewC J Yang
The document discusses different views on the age of the Earth from a biblical perspective in response to a child's question. It summarizes three main creation theories - Young Earth Creationism, Progressive Creationism, and the Gap Theory. It then reexamines key parts of Genesis 1, suggesting the "earth" refers specifically to dry land, not the entire planet, and "create" means separate or form rather than make from nothing. This allows for an old Earth while maintaining biblical authority.
The document discusses the history of determining the age of the Earth. It begins with pre-scientific beliefs that the Earth was only a few thousand years old based on biblical accounts. Starting in the 1600s, scholars began speculating on the Earth's origins but with little field work. In the late 1600s, Steno formulated principles of stratigraphy and rock layering that helped establish relative dating of formations. By the 1700-1800s, studies of strata, fossils, earthquakes, and erosion led to acceptance that the Earth was much older than previously believed. Radiometric dating methods developed in the 1800s-1900s allowed estimation of absolute ages, showing the Earth to be billions of years old.
God created the heavens, earth, plants, animals, man and woman over six days according to the biblical account in Genesis. Each day of creation is described in detail. On the sixth day, God created man and woman and gave them dominion over the earth. The seventh day God rested. The document discusses observations from Genesis such as man being created after other animals, in God's image, and given command to multiply. It also addresses questions about the age of the earth and interpretation of "days" in Genesis.
Biblical creationism and real science week 12Todd Pencarinha
This document outlines a 12-week course on biblical creationism and real science. It summarizes the content covered in each week, including biblical passages on creation, geology and the age of the Earth, dinosaurs, biology and the complexity of life, astronomy and the design of the universe, mathematics and physics in nature. It includes quotes from scientists acknowledging design in the universe and concludes with recommendations to understand biblical accounts of origins.
The document discusses arguments for and against the age of the Earth being only thousands of years old versus billions of years old according to evolutionary theory. It provides examples of how coal and fossils could have formed rapidly from plants and animals buried during Noah's flood, rather than over millions of years as evolution proposes. The document also notes that radiometric dating methods used to determine the age of the Earth disagree with each other and are based on assumptions about rates of processes that have not been observed over long periods of time.
The Earth is a rocky sphere that spins on its axis and orbits the Sun. It has a molten iron core, surrounded by a mantle and crust. The atmosphere protects life from space hazards and the greenhouse effect maintains a livable temperature. Radioactive dating indicates the Earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old, and its interior structure and motions are driven by convection currents caused by radioactive decay. Plate tectonics shapes the surface through rifting and subduction.
The document discusses various interpretations of Genesis 1 and 2 in light of scientific discoveries. It describes how interpretations have changed over time from a young earth view to concordist and non-concordist views that see Genesis conveying theological rather than strictly scientific truths. The order of creation in Genesis is compared to the order inferred from modern science.
ORIGIN OF EARTH AND IT’S PLACE IN UNIVERSEShahid Hussain
The document discusses the origin and evolution of the universe, Earth, and life. It describes evidence that supports the Big Bang theory of the origin of the universe approximately 13.8 billion years ago. It explains that galaxies, stars, and planets formed over time through evolutionary processes. The document also discusses different views on the origin and age of the universe, from both religious and scientific perspectives, including the idea of theistic evolution. It provides examples of the immense distances in the universe and compares the age of the Earth and the development of life to timescales in a hypothetical "cosmic calendar" representing the universe's age in one year.
Geologists used new evidence from physics, including radioactive dating and heat sources within the Earth, to show that the Earth was older than physicists had estimated based on cooling models alone. Lord Kelvin had estimated the Earth's age as between 20-40 million years based on cooling rates, but radioactive elements provided additional heat sources and evidence that the Earth was at least 1.6 billion years old. By considering multiple heat sources and dating methods, geologists and physicists reconciled differing age estimates to establish that the Earth was over 3 billion years old.
1. Many ancient cultures believed the universe originated from primordial waters or chaos. The Babylonians, Egyptians, and Israelites described the early cosmos emerging from water.
2. In ancient cosmologies, the earth was often thought to be a flat disk floating on water, surrounded by a dome-shaped sky. The sky was believed to separate the upper waters from the lower waters and earth.
3. Creation myths from these cultures generally involved creator gods bringing order from the initial chaos of waters. For example, the Babylonian god Marduk killed Tiamat and organized the cosmos from her body.
This document provides information about geochronology and dating the age of the Earth. It discusses how the Earth is estimated to be 4.6 billion years old based on dating of meteorites and the oldest Earth rocks. It describes the principles of relative dating methods like superposition and cross-cutting relationships. It also explains numerical dating techniques using radioactive isotopes like potassium-argon and uranium-lead dating to assign absolute ages to rocks in millions or billions of years. Finally, it briefly discusses isostatic adjustment and two hypotheses about isostasy proposed by J.H. Pratt and G.B. Airy.
Main points of The Grand Canyon Monument to an Ancient EarthTimothy Helble
This presentation presents the 177 main points of the book "The Grand Canyon Monument to an Ancient Earth, Can Noah's Flood Explain the Grand Canyon?" 120 of the main points are direct refutations of flood geology, most of the remaining ones can be considered to be indirect refutations of flood geology. This presentation was compiled by Tim Helble, one of the editors and authors of the book and has been coordinated with the other 10 authors.
Are the creation ministries shooting straight with usTimothy Helble
Each week, thousands of people attend “creation conferences” put on by various young earth creation ministries and hear convincing-sounding arguments for a recent creation (6,000 years ago) and against what they broadly refer to as evolution. These young earth presenters talk just like us and share our spiritual beliefs, so we’d much rather believe them than the host of intellectual-sounding scientists who tell us that the Earth and our universe is very old. In my opinion, the young earth creation ministries have not been truthful with Christians at these conferences and it is time to call them to task for this. Can I substantiate my claim with solid evidence that doesn’t rest on opinions? Review this presentation and see for yourself.
Geology is the scientific study of the origin, history, and structure of the Earth based on observable data and the principle of uniformitarianism. Observable data can be qualitative descriptions or quantitative measurements. In the 17th century, Irish Bishop James Usher estimated the age of the Earth to be around 4004 BC based on biblical accounts, but in the 18th century, Scottish geologist James Hutton developed the principle of uniformitarianism from his observations of rock formations. Modern geology uses both relative dating methods based on principles like superposition and cross-cutting relationships, as well as absolute dating techniques like radiometric dating to determine ages of rocks and the Earth in the billions of years.
1) God told Noah to build an ark to save himself, his family, and animal pairs because He planned to flood the earth due to mankind's wickedness.
2) Noah built the ark exactly as God commanded and took animals by sevens of the clean kinds and two of the unclean kinds.
3) Heavy rain fell for 40 days and nights, flooding the entire earth and killing all air-breathing land creatures outside the ark. Only Noah and those with him on the ark survived.
The document discusses a hypothesis for a Bronze Age global flood caused by impacts from a multi-nucleic comet around 2900-2800 BC. Impacts including one that formed the Burckle Crater in the Indian Ocean would have resulted in globally impacting storms, fires, tsunamis and flooding. This catastrophic event is connected to the Biblical story of Noah and is responsible for great flood myths in ancient Sumerian writings and many cultures. The hypothesis originated with Bruce Masse and the Holocene Impact Working Group.
The document compares the Big Bang theory and the biblical account of creation. It provides evidence against the Big Bang theory, including quantized galaxy redshifts that contradict the cosmological principle. It also notes implications of the Big Bang that are inconsistent with Genesis, such as death before sin. The Big Bang is described as a "true miracle" by physicist Paul Davies, whereas creationists argue that "In the beginning God created" is more scientific. The document questions whether all evidence is presented or just facts supporting the Big Bang theory.
The document discusses Jesus washing his disciples' feet as an example of humility and servant leadership. It explores how Jesus taught his followers to deny themselves and serve others wholeheartedly as bond-slaves to Christ. The passage also references parables about being watchful servants waiting for Jesus' return and being found faithful in serving without expectation of reward.

The document is a letter from the Huldah Ministry addressing brothers and sisters in Christ. It discusses the superiority of Christ over angels as presented in the book of Hebrews in the New Testament. The letter examines arguments for who authored Hebrews, concluding that evidence strongly supports Paul as the author. Key points include that Hebrews uses the same concluding salutation as Paul's letters and that 2 Peter refers to a letter by Paul that can only be Hebrews.
This document summarizes research into common forms of daily distraction. It discusses how participants responded more slowly to tasks when distractions like cartoon images were presented, showing people have difficulty ignoring irrelevant stimuli. While some may think those prone to mind wandering would be less distracted, the research found those who reported more mind wandering were actually more slowed down by external distractions. The document concludes by mentioning further research is examining why distraction occurs and how it can be reduced.
The document discusses several scientific facts and theories that are mentioned in the Quran, including:
1) The Quran's description of mountains as "pegs" corresponds to modern geology which shows that mountains have deep roots underground.
2) Verses describe oceans mixing but not intermingling, consistent with modern oceanography which shows waters are separated by barriers like temperature and salinity differences.
3) The Quran correctly states that the sun has its own light whereas the moon only reflects light.
4) Other scientific ideas in the Quran such as iron coming from outer space and the expanding universe are discussed.
1) The Book of Enoch is an ancient Jewish religious work that describes a "Great Oath" or "Cosmic Covenant" that binds the forces of creation, including the heavenly bodies and natural elements.
2) This Cosmic Covenant was understood to keep the natural world in proper order and harmony. Breaking this covenant was thought to release destructive chaotic forces.
3) The document discusses how references to binding the sea and other natural phenomena in the Old Testament and other ancient texts relate to this ancient concept of a Cosmic Covenant maintaining order in creation.
Big Bang, Hydroplate Theory - Fred WilliamsFred Williams
This document provides a summary of the latest ideas in creation science by Fred Williams. It discusses evidence that contradicts evolutionary theories, such as findings of biological material and proteins in dinosaur fossils, massive mature galaxies found in the early universe, and anomalies in the cosmic microwave background radiation that do not align with the big bang theory. The document also presents biblical passages related to creation and predictions from creation scientists that have been later confirmed by discoveries, such as the finding of living organisms in Lake Vostok in Antarctica.

The document provides evidence for the Genesis Flood described in the Bible by examining geological features and fossils. It discusses 8 pieces of evidence including: 1) abundant marine sediments on continents, 2) underwater activity on continents, 3) continent-wide sediment currents, 4) unusually widespread sediment layers, 5) erosion rates too fast for gradual processes, 6) gaps in sediments without erosion, 7) incomplete fossil records, and 8) unusual coal deposits. The document argues this evidence is best explained by a global flood around 4,000 years ago as described in Genesis, rather than slow processes over billions of years.

The document discusses how modern cosmology has found that the Quran mentioned scientific facts about the universe over 1400 years ago. It discusses three main points:
1) The Quran stated the universe was created for a purpose and with order, matching current scientific understanding.
2) Dimensionless numbers like the gravitational constant are finely tuned for life in ways noted by scientists like Dirac and Hawking.
3) The formation of life-supporting stars and ordered galaxies by random chance is astronomically improbable, indicating the universe was designed rather than accidental.
The document summarizes several scientific facts and theories that are mentioned in verses from the Quran, including:
1) Verses describing mountains as "pegs" to stabilize the earth, and their role in preventing earthquakes, match the scientific understanding of mountains' physical role.
2) Passages about seas not mixing with one another and having barriers between them align with the modern discovery of surface tension and density differences preventing mingling.
3) A verse referring to the "forelock" is connected to the prefrontal cortex region of the brain that controls motivation and planning of movements.
4) The Quran's description of the expanding universe parallels the scientific conclusion that the universe is expanding rather

The document summarizes a book called "Fundamentals of Geology" by George McReady Price that argues against popular geological and evolutionary theories. It notes that modern geological discoveries contradict standard theories of geology and provide evidence supporting the biblical account of creation and a universal flood. The document recommends the book as a valuable reference for understanding biblical creation in the context of geological studies. It also notes endorsements of the book from professors at Harvard University and Xenia Theological Seminary who agree it presents difficulties for supporting evolution from a geological perspective and clearly argues against evolutionary claims.
The Omega Conspiracy: Satan's Last Assault on God's Kingdom, by I.D.E. ThomasGuy Boulianne
This document provides a foreword and introduction to Dr. I.D.E. Thomas's book "The Omega Conspiracy". The foreword discusses the author meeting Dr. Thomas in 1992 and his groundbreaking work on linking UFO phenomena to biblical topics like the Nephilim. The introduction discusses how human beliefs and assumptions have changed throughout history as new discoveries were made, and how the skies have long been a source of mystery and fascination. It notes how both Christians and devotees of astrology look to the skies for meaning, and discusses Jesus' warnings of signs in the heavens preceding his return.

This document summarizes key points from a longer source text about fossils and the age of the Earth:
1. It discusses differing views on whether fossils date rocks or rocks date fossils, with some arguing that fossils more accurately date rocks.
2. It includes quotes questioning evolutionary theory and assertions that nothing is truly known about evolution.
3. The document advocates a literal interpretation of the biblical creation account, asserting the days in Genesis refer to ordinary 24-hour days.
The document provides evidence for the Genesis Flood described in the Bible by outlining 8 key points of scientific evidence: 1) Abundant marine sediments are found on continents, which is unusual given continents normally float above ocean sediments. 2) There is evidence of abundant underwater activity on continents. 3) Continent-wide current patterns are observed. 4) Sedimentary deposits are unusually widespread. 5) Rates of continental erosion are too fast for a gradual model. 6) Flat gaps or unconformities exist in sedimentary layers. 7) Incomplete ecological systems are found in the fossil record. 8) Unusual coal deposits have been discovered. The document argues this evidence is best explained by a global catastrophic flood like the Genesis
1. A star gate is predicted to open near Jerusalem in the year 2024, providing access to heavenly dimensions. Ezekiel's Temple will likely serve as the base for this dimensional portal.
2. In the years leading up to 2024, the world will experience unprecedented destruction as prophesied, preparing the way for the heavenly reign to follow.
3. After the 1000 year reign of Christ on earth, Satan will be released to gather forces against God once more, but will be defeated permanently and cast into eternal destruction along with his followers.

Genesis Chapter 7 documents the biblical account of the Great Flood during Noah's time. Some key points include:
- John MacArthur notes there are over 270 flood stories worldwide that can be traced back to this one global flood event described in Genesis.
- The dimensions and carrying capacity of Noah's Ark are described, showing it was large enough to hold all the animals God commanded Noah to bring.
- God instructs Noah to bring onto the ark 7 pairs of every clean animal and 2 pairs of every unclean animal. The distinction between clean and unclean animals predates the Mosaic Law.
- For 40 days and nights, rain fell heavily as all the springs of the great deep burst open and
The document discusses the Gap Theory view of Genesis 1, which proposes that between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2, Satan rebelled and God's original creation was laid waste, requiring Him to remake the earth. It also summarizes views for and against a literal 6-day creation week based on textual evidence and Hebrew grammar. Finally, it outlines physical features of the pre-Flood world and provides arguments that the Genesis Flood was global in scope.
This document provides commentary on Revelation 21 from several scholars and theologians. It discusses:
1) The vision of a new heaven and new earth in Revelation 21, with the first heaven and earth having passed away and no longer being a sea. Commentators discuss possible symbolic and literal meanings.
2) The glorious future state of the church that this vision depicts, during the 1000 years after Satan is bound. The holy city and new Jerusalem represent the purified church.
3) Alternative views that this could refer to other time periods are dismissed. The conclusion is that it depicts the period when the saints will reign with Christ on the renewed earth.

Young-Earth Creationist View Summarized & Defended

Feb 16, 2011, http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/aid/v6/n1/yec-view-summary
Dr. John McLean has my permission to use this article
with his online course at Liberty University.
Abstract
There is a great amount of controversy in the church today regarding evolution and the age of the
earth. Many competing views attract the attention of Christians producing great confusion and
leading many Christians to conclude that it just doesn’t matter. In this article, I will explain and
give a brief defense of the young-earth creationist view as the only proper understanding of
Scripture. All other views are compromise with error. I will also explain some of the reasons
why this matters for all Christians.
This article is an extract from the beginning of a longer paper which was originally published in
Answers Research Journal in 2009 as Systematic Theology Texts and the Age of the Earth. That
paper critiques the old-earth arguments in three of the leading systematic theology textbooks (by
Millard Erickson, Wayne Grudem and Gordon Lewis/Bruce Demarest) used in seminaries and
Christian colleges in America and around the world. The section of that article is used for this
present article with permission of the ARJ editor, and the pdf of this shorter document may be
particularly useful as a handout in Sunday school or other teaching contexts, as two teachers
have previously requested.
Young-earth creationists believe that the creation days of Genesis 1 were six literal (24-hour)
days, which occurred 6,000–12,000 years ago.1 They believe that about 2,300–3,300 years before
Christ, the surface of the earth was radically rearranged by Noah’s Flood. All land animals and
birds not in Noah’s ark (along with many sea creatures) perished, many of which were
subsequently buried in the Flood sediments. Therefore, creationists believe that the global,
catastrophic Flood was responsible for most (but not all) of the rock layers and fossils (i.e., some
rock layers and possibly some fossils were deposited before the Flood, while other layers and
fossils were produced in postdiluvian localized catastrophic sedimentation events or processes).
The biblical arguments in support of this view can be briefly summarized as follows.2
1. Genesis is history, not poetry,3 parable, prophetic vision, or mythology. This is seen in
the Hebrew verbs used in Genesis 1,4 the fact that Genesis 1–11 has the same
characteristics of historical narrative as in Genesis 12–50, most of Exodus, much of
Numbers, Joshua, 1 and 2 Kings, etc. (which are discernibly distinct from the
characteristics of Hebrew poetry, parable, or prophetic vision), and the way the other
biblical authors and Jesus treat Genesis 1–11 (as literal history).5
2. The very dominant meaning of yôm in the Old Testament is a literal day, and the context
of Genesis 1 confirm.
The document discusses how many scientific discoveries were described in the Bible centuries or thousands of years before being discovered by science, including: the earth being spherical, the number of stars being uncountable, the hydrologic cycle, valleys and springs in the seas, and jet streams. It provides biblical references for each of these examples and argues that science has often served to confirm truths already contained in the Bible.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

1. LETTER TO THE BROTHERS AND
SISTERS IN CHRIST
【 SIX- DAY CREATION 】
“Look at the behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox. What
strength he has in his loins, what power in the muscles of his belly! His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of
his thighs are close-knit. His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like rods of iron. He ranks first among the
works of God, yet his Maker can approach him with his sword. …When the river rages, he is not alarmed;
he is secure, though the Jordan should surge against his mouth. Can anyone capture him by the eyes, or
trap him and pierce his nose?
“Can you pull in the leviathan with a fishhook or tie down his tongue with a rope? Can you put a cord
through his nose or pierce his jaw with a hook? …Can you fill his hide with harpoons or his head with
fishing spears? If you lay a hand on him, you will remember the struggle and never do it again! Any hope of
subduing him is false; the mere sight of him is overpowering. No-one is fierce enough to rouse him. … Who
can strip off his outer coat? Who would approach him with a bridle? Who dares open the doors of his
mouth, ringed about with his fearsome teeth? His back has rows of shields tightly sealed together; each is so
close the next that no air can pass between. They are joined fast to one another; they cling together and
cannot be parted….Strength resides in his neck; dismay goes before him. The folds of his flesh are tightly
joined; they are firm and immovable. His chest is hard as rock, hard as a lower millstone. When he rises up,
the mighty are terrified; they retreat before his thrashing. The sword that reaches him has no effect, nor
does the spear or the dart or the javelin. Iron he treats like straw and bronze like rotten wood. Arrows do not
make him flee; slingstones are like chaff to him. A club seems to him but a piece of straw; he laughs at the
rattling of the lance. His undersides are jagged postsherds, leaving a trail in the mud like a threshing-
sledge….
Nothing on earth is his equal―a creature without fear. He looks down on all that are haughty; he is
king over all that are proud. JOB 40:15~41:34.
Last month we briefly examined a summary of theories concerning the creation, mainly focussing on
the “Gap Theory” and the “Six-day Theory”. Having acknowledged each of their claims, in turn, it would
be appropriate to search for scriptural statements about creation.
Moses who wrote: ‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.’ in Genesis 1:1, also
proclaimed: ‘For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them,
but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.’ in
Exodus 20:11 and ‘It will be a sign between me and the Israelites for ever, for in six days the LORD
made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he abstained from work and rested.’ in Exodus
31:17(Lines added). While Moses’ emphasis in these passages simply appears to be on the ‘six day’
creation of the heavens and the earth, gap theorists, drawing a sharp distinction between the two Hebrew
verbs; “bara (created)” and “asa (made),” regard those statements written in Genesis1:1 and Exodus as
two distinct and separated events by assigning the former to original creation and the latter to the
recreation. Nehemiah 9:6 also uses “asa” to describe God’s creation: ‘You made the heavens, even the
highest heavens, and all their starry hosts, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them.
You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.’ (Line added).
In their arguments, six-day creationists explain the usage of these two different verbs as
interchangeable, especially when creation is referred to, by presenting some examples of Hebraic
parallelism in Scripture. Employing two or more verbs and different words in the same passage to
repeatedly express an almost same thought in the form of varied phrases is known as “parallelism” in
Hebraic poetry and prose. One of the examples using both verbs; ‘bara’ and ‘asa’ in direct parallelism
interchangeably is found in Isaiah41:20; ‘the hand of the LORD has done this, that the Holy One of
1
2. Israel has created it’ (Lines added). Isaish43:7 and 45:7 use three verbs; ‘bara’ and ‘asa’ and ‘yatsa
(form)’ interchangeably for God’s creative activity. Accordingly, along with other scriptural evidence
found in Genesis2:4 and Exodus34:10 and so on, it may be reasonable to conclude that the three verses
quoted from Exodus20:11,31:17 and Nehemiah9:6 simply re-state a time-limited Six-day creation written
in Genesis 1:1-2:25, rather than to understand them as proof texts of two distinct creation activities
separated by a lengthy period of time claimed by gap theorists (For detailed examination, Weston W.
Fields, ‘Unformed and Unfilled’, Burgener Enterprise).
On the whole, the six-day creationists’ view; of a young earth and young universe, seems to find
increasing support by recent biblical and scientific research, yet, even so, some problems still remain,
making the view scientifically difficult to adopt.
1) Scientific data point to very old earth and heavens. The age of the universe is estimated be at least ten
billion years old by the mode of the light-travel-time reckoning and further, even fifteen to twenty
billion years by other modes of reckoning based on the speed of the expanding universe or star ages.
2) The radioactive methods of dating of earth rocks, which are very common ways to give an appropriate
age of the sample, evaluate the earth very old far from six thousand years old or so.
3) The formation of the various “strata” of the earth’s outer crust, which usually show the same general
fossil distribution from the simpler to the more complex forms is thought difficult to be explained by
the Flood alone.
To harmonise the biblical statements with such scientific observation, various means have been
attempted. However, in contradiction to such effort, the reality is that more people are now searching for
evidence for the young age of the catastrophic Flood. Among many, some recent investigations on the
issues of “magnetic field” and “radiocarbon dating” are really worth examining. The following is quoted
from a book written by one of the critics of the Gap Theory, Weston W. Fields.
Firstly, regarding the huge difference between the age of the earth estimated by geologists and by
creationists, he says: ‘The reason for the difference is obvious: if present processes are to account not
only for the geological features of the earth (coal, petroleum, fossils, mountains, coral reefs, etc.) but
also for the biological evolution of man, and if we see very few of these phenomena occurring in any
significant way today, or for that matter (in the case of biological evolution particularly) during all of
recorded history, then we must have huge quantities of time for these changes and processes to
transpire Time, and more time, is the key: if we have enough of it (geologists and biologists glibly
suppose), we may account for almost anything, if not everything, except, of course, the origin of
matter and energy and natural processes (gravitation, etc.)’(Weston W. Fields, 1997, ‘Unformed and
Unfilled’, p.198.). According to Dr. Fields, regardless of scientific validation, astounding indications of a
very young earth have been investigated in the earth’s magnetic field. The fact that the earth’s magnet is
decaying at a remarkably rapid rate has been observed by a long period of real-time record of the earth’s
magnet since 1835 after Karl Gauss invented ways to measure the absolute value of the magnetic field. He
argues that if the initial value of the magnetic field were known, then the age of the earth could be
computed because the magnetic moment is decaying at a known rate and having set a premise of a
probable upper limit on the initial value of the earth’s magnetic field, he evaluated that the earth’s
magnetic field could not have originated before 8,000BCE. If the earth’s magnetic field is assumed to
have originated at the same time as the creation of earth, biblical chronology of the earth would fit much
better than the data of geological chronology, i.e., some billions of years old. He also presents from
another standpoint that is based on the amount of heat produced by the field, that the origin of the earth’s
magnetic moment must have been less than 20,000 years ago.
Secondly, concerning “radiocarbon dating” we should properly be informed about problems residing
in this popular method of dating. Dr. Fields points out several important assumptions on which the method
is based. In other words, if these assumptions were not validated, then data evaluated by it will be
concluded not to be reliable.
1) The decay rate of carbon-14 has remained constant.
2) The intensity of the cosmic ray bombardment has remained constant over the past 10,000~20,000
years because the formation of carbon-14 is directly dependent on the intensity of the cosmic
radiation. This radiation is also dependent on the intensity of the magnetic field of the earth.
2
3. 3) There has been equilibrium between the reservoirs of carbon for many millennia.
However, in reality, concerning the first point, the decay rates of carbon-14 are not fully predictable
and the half-life of it today has been observed to be longer than the one previously set. Concerning the
second and third points, some scientists claim that such equilibrium has never been reached. According to
the “non-equilibrium” theory of radiocarbon dating proposed by Melvin A. Cook, even enormously
computed ages are to be amazingly reduced to not more than 12,500 years! Thus, ample evidence
challenges against the basic assumptions of the radiocarbon dating method and the fact of the rapidly
decaying earth’s magnetic field objects to the validity of the method itself.
Apart from numerous indications of a young earth in the light of the magnetic field and radiocarbon
dating, there are also many exciting indications that scientifically favour the earth history based on the
catastrophic effects of a global Flood in Noah’s days, i.e., earth history supported by six-day creationists.
1) The geographic pole is now tilted from the magnetic pole by about 16 degrees. Such a sudden change
of axis, even if the degree were less than that figure at the time of Noah’s Flood, would cause
disastrous global flood sufficient enough to cover the whole land. In passing, it was reported that the
whole earth had been shaken by, and that the earth axis had actually been tilted by the last violent
Indian Ocean tsunami on 26th
December ’04.
2) Tracks of worldwide new sea levels, fossil beaches in mountains such as the Andes, and angled coral
beds are all evidence of a changed axis.
3) Horizontally flat-lying strata such as seen in the Grand Canyon, Arizona provide visible evidence of
deposition rapidly caused by the ‘sediment-laden water of the Flood’ (Whitcomb and Morris, ‘The
Genesis Flood,’ Presbyterian and Reformed Pub.Co. ).
4) Formation of large-scale fossil beds consisting of billions of plants and animals cannot be accounted
for without torrents of the Flood waters of a world wide scope. While any fossil of a lion has yet not
been found in Palestine despite habitation of lions being indicated in Scripture, Mammoths’ bones are
unearthed in America along with horses, lions and camels which are all regarded as pre-Flood animals
in the US. All these prove that formation of fossil graveyards in sedimentary deposits could not have
been caused by uniform processes over many ages. Fossils, geographically characteristic phenomena
such as horizontal strata and present high mountain ranges, and the ice age cannot be explained
without a global flood.
5) Mammoths frozen whole and undamaged in ice blocks in Siberia, sometimes either standing or
kneeling upright or preserving green on the tongue are obvious evidence of an instant freeze and
death. Nothing but a sudden and violent global flood can explain causes of such volume of freezing
waters colder than ‘-150 degrees F’ (John C. Whitcomb, ‘The World that Perished,’ Baker Book
House.)
6) According to John C. Whitcomb, one of the remarkable discoveries is the fact that a large tree trunk
remaining in an upright position turned into coal as it was. Such an extraordinary example as
penetrating vertically through several layers of sedimentary strata demonstrates a very short time of
formation of coal from woody material but not from “peat” as previously cited.
7) One of the remarkable discoveries is the perfectly preserved tracks of reptilian ‘dinosaurs’ along with
many kinds of animals, which simply could not have been preserved apart from unique sedimentation
processes after a sudden, global Flood. Although ‘dinosaurs’ have generally been taught to have come
to extinct millions of years ago and that men never coexisted with them, the Scriptures indicate
otherwise. To say nothing of foundational biblical principle that death entered the world through
man’s Fall (Ro.5:12), Job’s passages in 40:15~41:34 quoted at the beginning seem to depict an
encounter of man with fearsome ‘dinosaurs.’ There is no commentary which give satisfactory
explanations about the identities of ‘behemoth (“beast par excellence” in Hebrew)’ and ‘leviathan
(sea monster).’ Both appear as representatives of a mighty land animal and of a mighty and huge
marine animal, and the prime message in context is that God alone is sovereign over such huge
animals. However, the more you read, the more convinced you will be that such strange animals
likened to hippopotamus, river horse, water-ox or crocodile must be ‘dinosaurs.’ None of the other
proposed animals fit all the details described except a herbivorous dinosaur. For example, a “cedar-
like tail”, i.e., straight and long tail, applies to neither a “hippopotamus” nor a “river horse”. Also,
3
4. quite significantly, the fact that the crocodile has no tongue large enough to be hooked would exclude
it from being the most probable candidates for ‘leviathan.’ If this indication is true, it might be said
that the Bible unexpectedly testifies man’s coexistence with ‘dinosaurs’.
As examined so far from last month, the catastrophic universal Flood concept explains earth history
visibly featured on the earth’s crust far better than a century of evolutional concept. Now that we accept
the biblical statements of a young earth, “Six-day creation,” we would be led to the most significant claim
that the Flood which left large-scale fossil beds on the earth’s crust should have taken place after Adam’s
Fall, but never in a period of the gap between Genesis1:1 and 1:2 because fossil is a proof of death but
does not speak of evolutional development, and Scripture states that death came as a result of man’s sin
after the Fall: ‘Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in
this way death, came to all men, because all sinned ―’ (Ro.5:12) and ‘The creation waits in eager
expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its
own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated
from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that
the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time’
(Ro.8:19-22 Lines added). This means that there was no such thing as a “Lucifer’s flood” that would have
formed fossil beds and fossil graveyards before the six-day creation as gap theorists advocate but that only
Noah’s Flood is sufficient enough to form strata of fossils. Only a few month ago last December, we witnessed
the terribly destructive power of rapidly moving currents of water when more than twelve countries in the
Indian Ocean were hit by the colossal scale of earthquakes and tsunamis, which claimed more than 200,000
lives. So now we can easily imagine the tremendous power of a flood of rushing water.
Furthermore, as John C. Whitcomb states: ‘Rivers in flood stage normally excavate their beds to
tremendous depths, carrying vast quantities of sediment along in suspension or along the bed, to be
redeposited downstream when the flood subsides’ (1997, ‘The World That Perished,’ p.71.), so,
interestingly enough, a similar phenomenon actually took place on India’s south coast. As a result of the Indian
Ocean tsunamis washing away quantities of sediment along the eroded beds, a 1200-year-old lost city has been
exposed. What was found in the ocean by a diving expedition team three years ago has suddenly emerged and
now stand in sand (some 2 meter high structures). This was a dramatic change of landscape after the flood
waters subsided. Indeed, especially recently witnessing what the effects of even such localised floods would be,
we are actually living in the days when no biblical statement of extraordinary and catastrophic global events in
any field is beyond our understanding any more.
