The Coastal Environment Section (CES) of Dubai Municipality (DM) has recognized that Dubai’s beaches
are an intrinsic part of the city’s image and attraction worldwide. Dubai’s beaches are an important
part of the municipality’s drive to promote healthy lifestyles and raise the Happiness Index. They
offer many different experiences to locals, expats, and visitors from around the world. Parsons will,
in conjunction with the client, develop and enhance the available activities, attractiveness, range
and quality of amenities, and image of the beaches, setting the standard at a global level.

Biomorphism, or the incorporation of natural existing elements
as inspiration in design, originated new possibilities within the
man-made environment and remains still inspiring today. The
shoreline and its microscopic structure have been the source
of inspiration both for the architectural language across the
beaches and its spatial arrangement. The “bubbles” cluster
constitute of canopies and amenity program will provide livable
spaces where shade and nature will live harmoniously together.
The compact clustering of “bubbles” optimizes the use of space
and provide protected shade area across, while branding Dubai
Beaches with its iconic appearance worldwide.
The observation of Nature and its micro-structure led the
creation of the design option, inspired by the bubble packing
arrangement in the seashore foam micro-structure. The
buildings will resonate the curvilinear language of the landscape
and create a harmonious cluster through which the visitors will
meander protected by the shade of the canopies.

The overall landscape framework consists of the following key
elements:
- The Plaza is an event space created by the removal of the existing
amphitheater stage. This space naturally works in combination
with the Innovation Lab and the surrounding landscape to create
a space for public events. A smart fountain animates the stage
(when events are not taking place) with interactive water jets
and colors.
- The Amphitheater is an existing feature that gets integrated in
the new landscape proposal. This feature gets re-purposed to act
as an urban theatre.
- The Central Plaza is the landscape hub and contains an
interactive water feature. It is located at the highest level of
the Park and easily accessible from two large ramps located at
its ends.
site plan
- Fitness area is the recreation heart of the park and caters
to active uses for teenagers to adults. The Fitness area will
features an smart outdoor gym, 2 Multi-use sports hard
courts and a Jogging track going across the whole park.
- The Food Truck Park features a cluster of F&B and retail
as well as shaded Seating areas, designated for food truck
parking.
- Jogging track is the active running circuit in the park.
The track is covered in resin bound florescent aggregates
allowing the track to come to life and glow when the sun
sets. Along the track smart displays allows users to interact
with portable devices and track their performance.
- Smart Play area equipped with the latest augmented

The Creek Harbor Iconic Mosque’s proposal stems from the idea of a spiritual place immersed in
landscape and light, where worshippers can find peace through meditation and observation of nature.
The proposal is not only focusing on a single building but on a holistic built system: the mosque
and its surroundings are conceived as a place for prayer and relaxation, a public park where the
inhabitants can stroll under the outdoor canopies’ shade and observe the flora and fauna within the
natural reserve.

The overarching building shape is reminiscent of
mosque domes from architectural tradition, while its
composition, made of different smaller units, creates
a whole grander unified space. This design language
will generate a new, iconic, and recognizable
building complex that will add a distinct landmark
to the Creek Harbor Masterplan, attracting people to
the area, not only for religious purposes but to be
immersed in the natural park’s surrounding.
The threshold between the internal and external
space is dissolved in a series of pavilions, integrating
the mosque in its surrounding landscape. Both
Architecture and Landscape merge through
progressive water bodies and vegetation pockets,
gradually bringing the flora and fauna into the
building in a seamless manner.

The design brief requested for a mixed-use development comprising four and five star hotels with
service apartments together with independent offices. The design approach adopted in this initial
study is to have an integrated scheme where there is one holistic seamless solution to the overall
form and appearance of the building and where each compliments and works well with the other.
The proposed design of the two blocks is intended to be bold and accentuating the dynamic form of
movement through its form and sweeping canopies.

Education City Master Plan
25
Education City itself is a mixture of higher education campuses, health care,
research, cultural and leisure amenities. In land use terms with its leisure and
sporting facilities it is less of an education campus although in base GFAterms higher
education and event space are the dominant areas. Within the current Education
City master plan there is not an urban mixed use commercial development that
provides a spectrum of residential, commercial office, retail and entertainment
amenities.
This Master Plan explores the optimum urban grid for this type of mixed use
development. The GFA is 520,420 sqm with an average district FAR just below
2. The design balances the building massing and street widths to provide a well
developed but distinctly urban development in character. It seeks to provide a
density that enables easy pedestrian connections with workable scale commercial
districts that have sufficient critical mass to drive retail land uses.

Synapses
The Synapse structure is adopted to help define the hierarchy
of pedestrianised open spaces across the master plan. The
synapse concept is also used to define how each open space is
connected to another.
General Courtyard System
Public, commercial and mixed use areas are centralized
around large courtyards. A secondary network of more private
residential courtyards spill off from the larger more public
plazas.
This diagram shows how the two systems; the courtyard and
synapse, are overlapped and integrated with one another.
When combined the two structures form a more dynamic

PROJECT CONCEPT
The basic idea was to develop a design that could preserve as much “green” park space as possible.
The proposal takes each of the facility buildings and simply organizes them around an ‘organic core’.
The function of this is further optimized with the location of the ‘Student Centre’ directly in the
middle of the plot, creating a communal gathering area. The university building should dip down
in the South corner of the site and raise to its highest point in the North. This will allow for light
to penetrate the park space as well as making an opportunity of creating a roofscape accessible to
pedestrians.

ARCHITECTURAL APPROACH
The idea for the overall architectural dialogue was derived from understanding pedestrian flows
to and from the site. The aspiration was for a logical development that allows users to flow under,
through and around its buildings. This continuous sloping structure that starts at the South end with
two levels and ends with six levels at the North is divided along its central axis by a long glazed
atrium into two parallel stripes. The main facade of the Science Center is oriented parallel with
the Boulevard of Art and reinforces the street edge with a built form. The main mass of the building
floats above the ground plane creating a grand pedestrian passage to the heart of the Science Center
Campus. Additionally the main mass of the building is oriented towards the urban areas to the South
to buffer the galleries and main program areas from the noise of the Arsenija Carnojevica Boulevard
Highway. This hovering mass is divided into 3 distinct zones. Public Lobby and Reception space in
the center, Galleries to the west, and Educational and Assembly spaces situated to the east. Central
to this constellation of nodes is the Planetarium which is surrounded by main entry, ticketing and
main arrival hall. Supported with a stainless steel column and bridges the Planetarium floats above a
sunken pool connecting to the main public parking level below. The main public program is situated
on the second floor and floats over the ground plane. Ascending upwards around the Planetarium
visitors are centered within the space and are drawn into the Planetarium for orientation and a film
screening. The Gallery Arm is situated to the west and is organized into 5 distinctly shaped gallery
bays of varying scale and height organized around the multistory Temporary Gallery Atrium.

PROJECT GOALS:
Ahead of the preparation for the World Basketball Championship in Belgrade, the organizers set a
task to design a complex for Basketball University, which would consist of the campus, a hotel for
students and lecturers, an arena for an audience of 2,000 and the administrative section along with
sales and hospitality functions.
DESIGN:
The architecture of the building comes from a desire to create a new symbol of Belgrade, a new
type of architecture for the city which would challenge, invite and stand out. The basic space of
the complex is within two egg-shaped objects, imitating pebbles found on the river bank. These are
placed on the rectangular plateau with covered parking and which with its front, covers the sand
bank and forms a terrace above the greenery. The egg-shaped buildings are placed in such a way that
they open their view to the river, and with their placement direct the visitors’ attention towards the
front of the plateau and the river.

The smaller structure on the left, with 4 floors and a garage, contains the campus and the dorms.
Parking underneath the plateau, with 40 parking spaces, is for the occupants and employees of
the building. The ground floor contains the reception area, cafes and kitchens, an exhibition space
and a basketball court. The first and second floor contain lecture halls, workshop space, offices for
lecturers and an amphitheater. The third and fourth floor contain student dorms as well as a reading
space which would span both floors.
The building on the right, with three floors and garage, contains the basketball gymnasium and the
business areas for staff. The ground floor contains the entrance for teams, as well as changing rooms
with lockers, gym and cafes, as well as the business center. This floor would also contain the main
basketball court. The first floor, in the northern part of the building, is the spectator entrance, while
the opposite section contains business space, sport and souvenir shops. Seating is for around 2000
spectators and are placed on the sides of the court. Offices are in the other two floors, along with

The shoreline and its microscopic structure have been the source of inspiration both for the architectural language across the beaches and its spatial arrangement. The “bubbles” cluster constitute of canopies and amenity program will provide livable spaces where shade and nature will live harmoniously together. The compact clustering of “bubbles” optimizes the use of space and provide protected shade area across, while branding Dubai Beaches with its iconic appearance worldwide. • 50. Education City itself is a mixture of higher education campuses, health care, research, cultural and leisure amenities. In land use terms with its leisure and sporting facilities it is less of an education campus although in base GFAterms higher education and event space are the dominant areas. Within the current Education City master plan there is not an urban mixed use commercial development that provides a spectrum of residential, commercial office, retail and entertainment amenities. This Master Plan explores the optimum urban grid for this type of mixed use development. The GFA is 520,420 sqm with an average district FAR just below 2. The design balances the building massing and street widths to provide a well developed but distinctly urban development in character. It seeks to provide a density that enables easy pedestrian connections with workable scale commercial districts that have sufficient critical mass to drive retail land uses.

A secondary network of more private residential courtyards spill off from the larger more public plazas. This diagram shows how the two systems; the courtyard and synapse, are overlapped and integrated with one another. • 69. PROJECT CONCEPT The basic idea was to develop a design that could preserve as much “green” park space as possible. The proposal takes each of the facility buildings and simply organizes them around an ‘organic core’. The function of this is further optimized with the location of the ‘Student Centre’ directly in the middle of the plot, creating a communal gathering area. The university building should dip down in the South corner of the site and raise to its highest point in the North. This will allow for light to penetrate the park space as well as making an opportunity of creating a roofscape accessible to pedestrians. • 70. ARCHITECTURAL APPROACH The idea for the overall architectural dialogue was derived from understanding pedestrian flows to and from the site. The aspiration was for a logical development that allows users to flow under, through and around its buildings. This continuous sloping structure that starts at the South end with two levels and ends with six levels at the North is divided along its central axis by a long glazed atrium into two parallel stripes. The main facade of the Science Center is oriented parallel with the Boulevard of Art and reinforces the street edge with a built form. The main mass of the building floats above the ground plane creating a grand pedestrian passage to the heart of the Science Center Campus. Additionally the main mass of the building is oriented towards the urban areas to the South to buffer the galleries and main program areas from the noise of the Arsenija Carnojevica Boulevard Highway. This hovering mass is divided into 3 distinct zones. Public Lobby and Reception space in the center, Galleries to the west, and Educational and Assembly spaces situated to the east. Central to this constellation of nodes is the Planetarium which is surrounded by main entry, ticketing and main arrival hall. Supported with a stainless steel column and bridges the Planetarium floats above a sunken pool connecting to the main public parking level below. The main public program is situated on the second floor and floats over the ground plane. Ascending upwards around the Planetarium visitors are centered within the space and are drawn into the Planetarium for orientation and a film screening. The Gallery Arm is situated to the west and is organized into 5 distinctly shaped gallery bays of varying scale and height organized around the multistory Temporary Gallery Atrium.

LOCATION: Belgrade, Serbia BUILD UP AREA: 30.350 sqm DESIGNED IN: Revit Architectural and AutoCAD DESIGN BY: NIKOLA DAKIC PROJECT GOALS: Ahead of the preparation for the World Basketball Championship in Belgrade, the organizers set a task to design a complex for Basketball University, which would consist of the campus, a hotel for students and lecturers, an arena for an audience of 2,000 and the administrative section along with sales and hospitality functions. DESIGN: The architecture of the building comes from a desire to create a new symbol of Belgrade, a new type of architecture for the city which would challenge, invite and stand out. The basic space of the complex is within two egg-shaped objects, imitating pebbles found on the river bank. These are placed on the rectangular plateau with covered parking and which with its front, covers the sand bank and forms a terrace above the greenery. The egg-shaped buildings are placed in such a way that they open their view to the river, and with their placement direct the visitors’ attention towards the front of the plateau and the river.
