- 2. The first thing I notice is the iconic character Freddie Kruger on a medium close up. This has a menacing effect on the audience as we are shown a sadistic grin. The sinister facial expression expresses that the film will be violent and brutal.There is a promise of fear and violence through the facial expression this is reinforced by the scars on his face. The man looks like he’s really strong, I have got this idea through his broad shoulders which suggest to me this man is really strong and powerful. The main colours I see is red and brown.There is a lot of burgundy couloured blood on his shirt and it is also stained.This tells me that he has come off a fresh killing spree and is ready for more In the poster there is a real contrast of lighting. A lot of the light in the picture is in the background. The shadows, darkness is on Freddie Kruger Because the light is in the back, Freddie Kruger is blocking the light which could convey that he comes from the darkness and he’s here almost like he’s going to take you with him The slogan ‘welcome to your new nightmare’ is clever. It’s different. More time you hear the phrase ‘welcome to your worst nightmare’ so when they say this it gives the audience the feeling that this is going to be a different much more spookier horror film. Furthermore, it is also clever as this was a new Nightmare On Elm Street. In the poster you see that Freddie Kruger is wearing a cowboy hat. The cowboy hat allows him to cover his face and by that not revealing his identity. This is also sort of a way to keep the audience thinking about how he looks like or how he’s going to look like. They’ve used a medium close up in the poster of Freddie Kruger. By using the medium close up he takes up the whole poster and gives the you the feeling that you can’t get away from him. The angle of the image is interesting as you it is not a low angle or high angle. The camera is facing right at him which I believe is an eye line match. This could have been used so that the audience feel that your looking right at him and he’s looking right at you as you are his target.
