From 2010 to 2015, a partnership between the Government of Sokoto State and USAID helped save over 6,000 women and newborn lives through increased access to maternal and child health services. Key interventions like misoprostol and chlorhexidine gel doubled or more in coverage, reducing maternal and newborn mortality. Sokoto also saw a decline in fertility and increased family planning acceptance. While progress was made, continued efforts are needed to train more community midwives and ensure a reliable supply of life-saving commodities to sustain reductions in maternal and child mortality.
