MANILA, Philippines — A motorist seen in a viral video striking a cyclist and drawing a gun on him near the
Welcome Rotonda in Quezon City on Aug. 8 surrendered to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) yesterday.
Willie Gonzales’ surrender came hours after lawyer and avid cyclist Raymond Fortun shared the video
uploaded by Facebook user Mr. BI Vlogs.
Other reports identified Gonzales as a retired policeman.
QCPD director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said in a dzBB interview that he earlier urged the motorist to
surrender after learning about the viral video. He confirmed that Gonzales surrendered to the nearest QCPD
station.
The video showed Gonzales, driving a red sedan, cutting into the path of the cyclist along the bicycle lane,
striking him on the head and drawing a gun on him.
The video was cut short when the one filming the incident noticed that Gonzales had drawn a gun.

MANILA, Philippines — Actress Lovi Poe married British movie producer Monty Blencowe on Saturday,
August 26 (UK time).
Attended by close family and friends, the wedding was held at Cliveden House in Bekshire, England.
Cliveden House was built in 1666 by the 2nd Duke of Buckingham as a gift to his mistress. It is now a five-
star hotel where weddings are also held.
According to a Preview report, Lovi chose Filipina designer Patricia Santos to design her wedding gown.
Patricia created Lovi's gown made from the exact same lace used for Kate Middleton's (Princess Kate) Alexander McQueen
wedding dress.
It was a Victorian-inspired dress with backless detail plus a long veil that complements her updo hairstyle.
Lovi announced her engagement with Monty last August 8.
She currently stars in the nightly action-drama show "Batang Quiapo." She has reportedly shot her scenes prior to flying out
of the country to prepare for her wedding to Monty.

Brazil high court rules homophobia punishable by prison

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil — Brazil's Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that homophobic slurs are now punishable by prison, in a decision applauded by
rights activists in a country with rampant violence against the LGBTQ+ community.
The 9-1 ruling puts homophobic hate speech on the same legal level as racist hate speech, which was already punishable by prison in Brazil.
Justice Edson Fachin, the lead judge on the case, said in his ruling it was a "constitutional imperative" to give LGBTQ+ citizens equal protection under
the law.
The court had ruled in 2019 that homophobia was a crime, just like racism.
But the earlier decision applied to slurs against the LGBTQ+ community as a whole, not attacks on specific individuals.
Rights group ABGLT brought the case to extend the legal protections further.
Hate speech is punishable by prison terms of two to five years in Brazil.
"Victory against LGBT-phobia," transgender lawmaker Erika Hilton posted on social media, celebrating the ruling.
Rights groups registered 228 murders of LGBTQ+ people in Brazil last year.
The country of 203 million people is the deadliest in the world for trans people, according to the rights group Transgender Europe, with 1,741
murdered from 2008 to 2022.
