New World Beginnings (33,000 B.C. – A.D. 1769)
First Paragraph
The earth was formed over 6 billion years ago, yet in terms of time, only recently was a Western
civilization formed.
Even more recently, the Americas were accidentally discovered, and they would prove to drastically
influence and alter the future of earth.
The Shaping of North America
The Americas were formed from the single supercontinent that contained all of the earth's landmass.
Some 225 million years ago, a single supercontinent contained all the world's dry land chunks of
terrain began to separate, thus creating the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans, as well as forming
the great continents that would be Europe, Asia,, Australia, Africa, Antarctica, and the Americas
North America was shaped through a multitude of natural occurrences.
Continued shifting and folding of the earth's crust thrust up mountain ranges.
When the glaciers finally melted about 10,000 years ago, they created and the North American
landscape as we know it today
Peopling the Americas
Natural occurrences also helped for a population in the Americas. the glaciers contributed to the
origins of the continent's human history
Although it is uncertain, many believe that the glaciers of the Ice Age melted and gave way to the
Bering land bridge that allowed people to populate the Americas from Eurasia.
At the same time, the ice caps over the diverse and vast geology of the Americas melted, allowing
people to travel and populate down to the

Personal Narrative: A Twisted Coverbook

A Tattered Cover Book
Cliché, as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary, can be a "stereotyped expression, a
commonplace phrase; also, a stereotyped character, style, etc." (OED, n. 3.a.). We often use and hear
numerous phrases that classifies as a cliché. I am one of the guilty many that scoffs at and mumbles
"Ugh" under my breath, accompanied by an exaggerated rolling of the eyes every time these worn
out expressions are used. However, as I sit here in the dark, laughing at myself with my dog at my
side, I cannot help but realize that I am about to use a cliché: "you can't judge a book by its cover"; I
am all of the brilliant pages inside a tattered cover book.

As an official member of the student body at the University of California at Irvine, pursuing a
degree in Biological Sciences, I had a newfound sense of freedom, pride and accomplishment; I was
first in my family to attend college. My parents shared my excitement, a bit too much at times, I
remember. Nevertheless, I was happy that they were proud. Classes started. I did fairly well in high
school. Getting good grades without, putting much effort. I could have done better. Applying the
same principles of studying I was accustomed to in high school, I thought I had the right formula to
achieve the grades. Enveloped in a cloud of euphoric intoxication from an overdose of
independence, I thought I knew it all at eighteen. A big brick of reality suddenly hit me on the head
when I first saw my failing grades. I was consumed with anger, but with no one else to blame. I was
defeated and fell into a deep state of depression and desperation. I gave up too quickly and spent the
remaining days of my proudest moment in life just going through the motions; going to classes,
hanging out with friends, taking exams and getting the worst grades imaginable. I was hanging on to
whatever was left with my newly found independence. I will not be able to return to school the
following year. I saw the look on my parents' eyes as they picked me up from the university:
disappointment; I was no longer the son they thought they knew. I went back home feeling lost

Identify the stages of a series of counselling sessions...
1 .1 Identify the stages of a series of counselling sessions The beginning The beginning of the
counselling process starts when the client first meets the counsellor, the saying "first impressions
count" is absolutely true for both the client and counsellor, the client will be very nervous and
unsure what is about to take place. The way the counsellor approaches the client in this infant stage
is vital for the client to gain trust and has the willingness to open up in later sessions. Some clients
may just rush into what is troubling them or say nothing, in both cases the counsellor will need to be
patient, observe and listen to what is being said as there will be vital information given and without
understanding this it could damage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1.2 Evaluate the importance of an appropriate opening of a series of sessions In my opinion the
beginning of the counselling session is one of the most important stage of the process, the client will
be very nervous and will not fully trust the process they are about to embark on, their unknown
journey they will be nervous. The Client may hold back what they are feeling until they have gained
the trust of the counsellor, and know they are safe and in a confidential environment. Another
important factor in the opening stage is to draw up a contract and discuss the content with the client,
this will demonstrate it's a working relationship and both the client and counsellor will know their
barriers, it also gives structure and prevents any misunderstanding in the relationship. By having a
contract it demonstrates to the client they are safe and able to speak freely also it shows the client
that each session if totally confidential, there are exceptions to the rule and these will be included in
the contract and what the process will be if they disclose anything that is unlawful. Having
unconditional positive regard from the beginning will display to the client there is no hidden agenda
and that the counsellor is non–judgmental, this will support the client to develop the working
relationship and show the client they are valued and wanted, they will start to relax to open up freely
and loosen up their attitude towards the session. 1.3

Personal Narrative: I Believe In A New Beginnings
You know those days where everything just seems to be going wrong or you never think things will
get better? When you are late for work, spill coffee down the front of your shirt, and realize you
accidentally wore two different shoes? Or how about when you thought you were in love, and you
got your heart broken into a million pieces and it felt like you would never be okay again? What
about when you had to say goodbye to your best friends when you left for college? I believe in a
new beginnings.
When I was in high school I could not wait to be out of my small town and be with people who
knew nothing about me. I did not want to be the "good girl" any longer. I wanted people to see me
for me, mistakes and all. When I decided to come to Marietta

Reflection Paper
I used to not think this to be true, but once it happened in my life, I became a strong believer in it. I
would hear, "Sometimes you have to let things go, so there's room for better things to come into
your life." I convinced myself to think that this was just a phrase people told themselves and others
to make one another believe that life would get better. It wasn't until one day that I believed it too.
I was very appreciative for the life I had and the people I had living in it. I had a family to support
and care for me and friends to spend time with. As my friends and I grew older and began maturing,
we began to see the true colors in one another. We had different beliefs and opinions, and faced up
hill battles with one another. Years of a close friendship began to crumble, until it whittled away to
nothing. Years of memories burned away and laughs shared between two people suddenly became
deceiving glares of anger in the halls. Losing the friendship I held with another for nearly four years
was what was the most challenging. Someone who knew everything about you, who knew you
better than you knew yourself, was now just another figure in the crowd. We become so acclimated
with objects once they become a part of our life, that when they're gone we question on how to live
without them. Seeing things reminded me of the bond that wasn't supposed to break, and I wondered
how I would ever lift myself up from the beating I'd just taken.
As time passed on, I saw the

Relationship Between Narrator And Dog In Jeanette...
In Jeanette Winterson's, "The 24–Hour Dog", the relationship between narrator and dog is a loyal
one where as in Ken Barris', "The Life of Worm", the relationship between narrator and dog is quite
strained. This essay will aim to discuss these stories in relation to one another, how they differ and
relate to one another. Lillian Feder writes about madness in, "Madness in Literature", this will be
used to highlight the mental states of both narrators. The relationship each narrator shares with his
dog is unique, in Harold Herzog's, "The Impact of Pets on Human Health and Psychological Well–
being: Fact, Fiction, or Hypothesis", he discusses how pets can actually affect your mental health. In

Any action, person, place or object can have a symbolic meaning (1). Symbolism is often used by
writers to enrich their writing, making it more colourful and it gives the work a deeper meaning (1).
Symbolism is used in literature and certain colours, objects and animals have specific connotations
(2). Black is generally used to represent death or something evil, where a chain symbolizes the

Importance Of Travel To Travel Essay
Family, new experiences and memories are three things I get from buying a ticket to travel. Buying
a ticket to travel outside the country can open so many doors and can teach you a lot from the other
places you visit. My whole life I have been traveling in and out of mexico and that is my favorite
place to go. Growing up getting use to going to Mexico I paid little attention to what was actually
going on when i would travel. Traveling truly meant getting away from reality, having freedom, and
getting to know yourself better. These three things have been developing every time i would travel
and will continue every single time i continue to repeat the pattern. Many new possibilities can
appear just by buying a single ticket that can help you view everything differently in a matter of
time.
Getting the news from my parents that they had already bought the flight tickets was almost as
important as the day of actually getting there. I remember my favorite part was being able to see the
ticket that gave me motivation to perform my best at everything I did the last couple of days that i
was still here because i knew that soon in would be able to spend time with my family. Spending
time with my family has always been by far my favorite thing to do when I am in mexico because it
is not a everyday thing where i can go visit my grandparents. As i spend time with them i get to
learn a lot of where my parents came from and i get to know myself better as well i learn about the

The Eyes Were Watching God Character Analysis
Model Amber Valletta wrote, "We are what we see. We are products of our surroundings." A major
element of someone's personality is due to their environment or past events of their lives. Janie
Crawford is certainly not an exception. This is the story of Janie's Pursuit for love where she, a
widowed woman, unfolds her story to her friend Pheoby at dinner. She talks about her childhood
with Nanny and The Washburns, her relationships with Logan Killicks and Joe Starks or Jody, her
experiences with them along with events that took place while being with them or in relation to
them, how they affected her mentality, and how she grows up and matures throughout her life to the
self–reliant woman telling the story. In The Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston, the
struggles in Janie's problematic relationships with Logan and Joe impacted her, which gave her more
and more experiences to gradually building up to the independent woman she is in the beginning of
the story.
The beginning phase of Janie's development was her marriage to Logan, where she thought that the
marriage which Nanny forced upon her might end up fulfilling her aspiration for love. Logan was
very nice to Janie at the beginning, but later, as time went by, he wasn't as nice to her anymore. One
morning Logan called for Janie for her to come out and help him with his work in the fields.
"Janie!" Logan called harshly. "Come help me move dis manure pile befo' de sun gits hot. You don't

Who Moved My Cheese Reflection
As the days go by, we notice our world is constantly changing and evolving; for better or for worse.
Many individual cope well with their lives changing, but for others, (like myself), have a harder
time adapting to a new routine. A lot of us enjoy living a life–style that is expected every day,
furthermore, we live happier and comfortably. In 1998, Dr. Spencer Johnson introduced Who Moved
My Cheese, to the world a fable on how to adapt to major chances to one's life and to do so in a
more positive attitude. The book as influenced many people, such as well–respected broadcaster
Charlie Jones of NBC. He admits that Dr. Johnson's book may have saved his carrier. Jones is very
familiar with broadcasting Track and Field events at Olympic games, he then found out that his boss
had removed him from his familiar events and was then assign to broadcast swimming and diving, a
sport he knew very little about. Jones grew doubtful and frustrated with the adjustment of his career.
Like most people, he did that adapt well to change. His anger affected everything thing he did,
including himself, he became very unhappy with his job that he enjoyed doing. Jones then heard Dr.
Johnson's successful and life changing story of Who moved my Cheese. He then altered his attitude
and outlook on his new way of living. He stated that doing something new; out of his old routine
made him feel youthful and refreshed. His boss then recognized his new positive energy and
attitude, and he soon got better, beneficial assignments for work. He became more successful than
ever and was then inducted into Pro Football's Hall of Fame, Broadcaster's alley. This domino effect
can demonstrate how such an impactable book like "Who Move my Cheese" can do to someone.
From difficulties at work, or even struggling in a relationship, the book can open anyone's life to a
new positive beginning. Dr. Johnson is a strong believer that his novel can impact and touch the
lives of countless people. The book is divided into 3 sections. The first section shows a former
classmate reunion, they discuss how much their life has changed out of high school. The second
section is the focus of Who Moved My Cheese? At last, the third section

Selfhood In Kate Chopin's The Story Of An Hour
During the late of the nineteenth century, the American society had witnessed the abolishment of
slavery, but still women had no right to vote until 1920. It makes sense, then, that freedom and
feminine selfhood would be of great concern to the forerunners of modern feminism. Kate Chopin's
The Story of an Hour was written in April 1894. In this story, initiated by the false news of Louise
Mallard's husband's death in a train accident, Chopin presents us with a picture of a subjugated
female protagonist feeling a powerful joy for the death of her husband that will give a promising
path of freedom. Chopin's exploration of the themes of feminine selfhood, the yearning for freedom,
independence and new life and of what she calls the "possession of self–assertion" is vividly
displayed in a rich and colorful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It takes place in the Malards residence, the home of Brently and Louise Mallard and it starts in a
public setting, probably the living room or even the kitchen because people are gathered there,
where Josephine reveals, very gently, to her sister that her husband is passed away after a horrible
train accident. The scope of this story is actually super limited: The primary action of the story
occurs within the Mallards' home and it is striking that besides the fact that female characters, and
only, are always inside the house, the characters that entered it did never leave it, as if they are caged
in. Equally, Mrs. Mallard seems to be pretty confined to the house because she "was afflicted with a
heart trouble". Her heart being physically sick is very symbolic of her emotional and psychic state of
sickness caused by her feelings being trapped in her marital life of subjugation. The idea of
confinement is widely reinforced by the image of the internal doors , not only the external ones,
being firmly locked by the aid of a "latchkey" which was opened only once during the

Story Of An Hour Character Analysis
In the short yet complex work "The Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin, readers see a woman who
goes through a complete spectrum of emotions in the short span of an hour. When the main
character learns that her husband is dead, like most, she is shocked and utterly filled with grief. As
the story continues, a dramatic change takes place within the mind of the main character, Louise.
Upon the conclusion of her natural, wifely grief, she realizes that she is finally out from under the
grasp of her husband and is now a free woman in a time when men dominated life at home and the
goings on of society. Through his death, Louise finds the opportunity to be born again. Many of the
emotions that the main character goes through are depicted through the imagery of her constantly
changing environment, and the author specifically uses the architecture of her home as a main tool.
In the story, the use of visual imagery projects the rise and fall of the main character as her life
transitions quickly back and forth. Through an analysis of her characterization, these changes
ultimately prove too much for her to handle. In Chopin's "The Story of an Hour," a character
analysis can be performed based on the changes in her environment compared to the changes in her
life situation. The layout of the world around Louise is used to show her initial grief, sudden
realization of freedom, and her gateway to a new life free from oppression of men. A wife who
receives the unexpected news that her

Look Pass The Label By Paul Gauguin
Look Pass the Label
A few weeks ago, I visited the Museum of Modern Art. As I was going through the second
exhibition a particular painting caught my attention. Still life with three puppies by Paul Gauguin
was titled. My first encounter with this painting was through the title, which made me create
negative hypothesis on what the painting was depicting. When looking at this painting all I could
think about was my lack of fascination towards animals, especially puppies, while the person
standing next to me was sighing and smiling about according to her "how cute the puppies are".
Unlike that person, I am not an admirer of puppies and as result I move quickly from the painting.
However, as I made a second round on the exhibition, this time when I saw the painting I was
beginning to notice things like shapes, symbols and colors and immediately forgot about my initial
reaction. I begin to realize that there might be more to the painting than what I originally saw, but I
have been blind from my initial judgments.
In my second observation I was able to look pass this initial judgments drawn by the title. The title
"Still Life with Three Puppies" confirm my assumptions about the painting and prevented me from
continuing seeing what the painting is trying to depict. This name limited my thinking and didn't
allow me to see the painting from what it is.
In the still life with three puppies, Paul Gauguin painted the entire canvas white and then added
some color by painting blue

Persuasive Essay
Everyone in their childhood dreams of things that they will accomplish in the future. We have the
inexhaustible enthusiasm that comes from our heart. The pursuit of that dream is the hope that
makes us live. We are happy about what we can become, so how to become worthy of our parents
and our family, we will be proud of all of them when we realize our dreams. But we do not know the
risk and obstacles that we will face along the way to that dream, or how good or bad it will be to
following our personal legend.
The USA is a dream for a lot of people that don't live there, this is not only for being a democratic
country but also because of a good system of education and a place for a better life.Everyone wants
to become part of this dream, and there is a good way how to go there like winning the DV lottery
that is a chance that helps and open a new door for a lot of people. It was exactly this dream that
came true for me when I win the DV lottery and planned to live in the USA. In "The Alchemist"
Paulo Coelho says, "When you want to achieve something, the universe strives until you realize it"
(The Alchemist, 64). This happens to me where the fate opened a new door that was only in a dream
and suddenly turned into reality. That period I thought that was repeated the history of the life of my
grandfather who moved from his country to another in a different and forced way, but he was a good
example for me for starting a new life in a new country. He always said to me that you

As the stories of Beli ends abruptly and move further back to the life of Oscar, readers are able to

introduces himself and continues to demonstrate the dictatorship through Oscar's life in college
through the development of their friendship. By comparing and contrasting the writing style of
chapter four and the rest of the book, there is a noticeable difference. The beginning of the chapter
explains Yunior's involvement of the De Leon Family that "it started with me" (Diaz 167). Before

For instance, the subtitle for two passages were "La Inca Speaks" and "Ybon, As Recorded by
Oscar." It's clearly stated that one of the passages is from La Inca and the other is from Ybon,
presenting two contradicting perspectives. In comparison La Inca's passage incorporated Spanish
words, whereas Oscar described on's thoughts all in English, resembling the clash of Dominican and
American culture in the novel. La Inca claimed, "He didn't meet her on the street like he told you.
His cousins, los idiots, took him to a cabaret and that's where he first saw her. And that's where ella
se metio por sus ojos" (Diaz 289). From La Inca's point of view we learned that Oscar met Ybon in a
cabaret, whereas earlier Yunior stated that they bumped into each other as they were walking. The
two different version of the story: Oscar's version is more of an innocent coincidence rather than La
Inca's version, yet there isn't a correct version as they are both biased. Oscar can make up his
version to prove that there's another side to Ybon, instead of a prostitute in the cabaret. On the other
hand, La Inca and his mother were enraged by Oscar's choice and only saw her as nothing more but
a prostitute, which led to La Inca's belief that the one possible way to meet a prostitute is in a
cabaret. La Inca's bitter and contemptuous tone displayed her dislike and disapproval towards Ybon,
Oscar's one true love. Ybon shared how she prefered not to come back to Santo Domingo, though
after seeing more of the world she knows she can get used to anything. Both speak in their own
voice briefly, but both greatly differed from how Yunior has previously described Ybon's
circumstances. Likewise, other characters' voice are occasionally shown through the dialogue or
sometimes in the apprentices that would clearly points out –"([Yunior] read in [Oscar's] journal)" –

How Does The Change Affect The Environment Of The Drivers...
Firstly, it is most important to be able to express the change in a clear simple statement that can
be expressed within a minute (60 seconds) Doing this will allow staff to have a core understanding
of
what is changing. It is important for this statement to be specific straight to the point and express

Bridges offers the following guidance – the statement must:
– Clearly express the change leader's understanding and intention
– Link the change to the drivers that make it necessary
– "Sell the problem before you try to sell the solution."
– Not use jargon

A Day I Was A New Beginning For My Life
Settling in new country isn't always easy. A day I arrived in Vermont seemed to be a new beginning
for my life. I came to Vermont on December 09th, 2008. I was about 14 years old, and I had no idea
what I was thinking of. I was so confused, and I didn't speak English at all. I thought I was lost
because I saw so many diverse people I've never seen in my life. I felt uncomfortable to be here
because I didn't understand what it was going on this state. I thought that I was in wrong place
because it wasn't easy for me to start living in Vermont. Living in Vermont made feel like I was
totally blank in my mind because I felt dislocated and insecure. For example, I was scared to go
outside and hang out with other friends because I thought they would hit me or laugh at me. I
remember playing around with my neighbors; they came to me and asked me if I could play with
them. I was totally lost because I didn't understand what they asked me. They kept mumbling words
I couldn't understand at all. I felt unwanted to be with them because they didn't speak my native
language. As I left them, they started laughing so hard, and I was afraid of asking them what they
were laughing. As long as they kept laughing, I suddenly ran to my room with anger. When I got
into my room, I started nodding my head and wondering what I could I do to just forget what I saw a

The story takes place in the 1960s. During this time, there was a really lot of controversy in the
United States involving war. The Vietnam War was was at its peak. The war began in 1955 and did
not end until 1975. Many of the young men went into the war the same way that the narrator and his
friends went to greasy lake. They thought they were perceived as "bad" and brave. Just as the
narrator and his friends headed to greasy lake, they were unsure of what the night was going to
bring. They experienced and saw things that they were not prepared for. In a way, the narrator's car
resembles the war as well. The car belonged to his parents. He took the car out unharmed, and in
good condition. He brought it home broken and tattered. The car resembles the boys who went off

something insignificant started the war. Almost every person has experienced a "greasy lake" at

The amount of conflict between these two groups at CVMC requires intervention.
The Human Process Intervention, focuses "on people within organizations and the processes through
which they accomplish organizational goals. These processes include communication, problem
solving, group decision making and leadership (Cummings & Worley, 2015, p. 157). More
specifically the intervention that would be utilized to help with the conflict between the PT's and
PTA's would be to do individual interventions and team building. An individual intervention such as
the Johari window is a great tool that allows individuals to gain feedback about their behaviors
(Cummings & Worley, 2015). The understanding and awareness of their behaviors and how they act
among their fellow co–workers could awaken them to change.
Along with individual interventions, team building would be utilized to help with the conflicts
between these two groups. As evident in the past, conflict among these two groups roams, the
prevention and quieting of conflict has been unsuccessful. In the words of Coggburn, Battaglio and

Symbolism In In Her Secret Heart By Miss Mijares
Being a person who is used to being in control, she is in complete confusion on how to handle her
current situation. Denial helps her cope and focus on what she must do in order to survive her
situation. Then again, it also causes her to ignore problems for which there are solutions if dealt
with. Miss Mijares is uncertain if she is ready to begin a new phase in her stationary life.
The third symbolism is Miss Mijares' dream of being lost. This suggests that she thinks that she has
lost her primary dreams as a woman. The dream of finding a husband and being a good wife

unlikely that this will be accepted by people since this normally does not happen in the community.
She is expected to be with someone of the same class. She is scared that she will be a total derision

expresses her feelings and desires for the carpenter as she accepts his apology and goes with him,
sharing the same passion as her through the storm. Within the storm, the sadness of Miss Mijares'
life is cleansed and a rebirth happens in her life. She now finds true happiness and can achieve her

lead her to unexpected places, but she has someone right beside her to accompany her and to get
through with them all. Stepping through disaster is a way to a new beginning. She knows that as old
as she is now, she can still learn new things in her life, if she is willing to be a beginner. Through her
dissatisfaction as a great starting point, she had the power, strength and energy for change to push

The Use Of Irony In Raymond Carver's Cathedral
When someone is oblivious to their prejudice, it can be difficult to get them out of that mold of
thinking. Biased people do not desire interactions with those they judge due to stereotyping and
ignorance. However, if biased people make an effort to connect to the misunderstood, minds can
become more open and they can put their prejudice to rest. Raymond Carver's short story named
"Cathedral", tells of a visit that a blind man called Robert took to the narrator's home. Jealousy from
the narrator's wife's companionship with Robert and the narrator's prejudice causes him to dislike
Robert. However, at the end of the visit, the narrator and Robert create a drawing of a cathedral
together using each other as guidance. In this short story, "Cathedral," ... Show more content on

Starting out as a single–minded twit, with the "blind" man by his side, the narrator was shown who
the real blind character is being him. The lost was led by the misjudged, allowing the narrator to
"see" how he was confused due to his own disregard. The nonexistent number of friendships the
narrator had proved the valid statement of Robert who had great warmth for mankind even with
physical disadvantages. However, the narrator couldn't get a clue of what his philosophy hindered
him from who had the advantage of vision. The narrator felt a sense of some sort of hierarchy
towards Robert who had a useful stance with it. Ironically, the narrator who was blind and had a lot
of disgust towards Robert ended up being the narrator's teacher in the sketch of the "Cathedral". The
use of irony was more evident at the end of the narrative as the narrator didn't open his eyes when he
had the option. He put trust in the blind man as he opened his intellect that before wasn't exhibited.
"But I don't feel like I was inside anything, it's really something (pg.42) the narrator mentioned.

Edward Norton, Disturbing Monster
Edward Norton, disturbing monster, or someone we sympathise with. This is the scene that changes
our very gripping opinions on Derek as a person. It changes the way we view him. He has realised
his wrongs and is showing remorse. In this frame we see Derek covering his eye gripping swastika
tattoo with his hand. His facial expressions filled with remorse as we see his lips over turned like a
frown and his eyes squinting, which allows us to understand his disgust toward his decisions and
hatred for his tattoo. Derek is left looking vulnerable. Through Edward 's performance we see him
totally stripped down and as an audience we can see that so we connect with him, we can feel the
wave of pain and emotion that he is going through. As an audience we see him evolving as a person
he's changing and this is a turning point for him. It was that moment when he really realised killing
those people made no difference it achieved nothing, through Edward 's performance we can really
see that. Derek has gone from being so proud of his tattoo in the first scene to being ashamed of it.
We see him boasting about it in the beginning of the film showing it off like he was Hitler, to this
frame here where he is ashamed to have that on his body now longing for purity and a new
beginning. Through Kaye's direction Edwards's performance has connected with the audience on a
personal level that is exactly what Tony wanted to achieve. A moving Performance by Edward is

Far Away from Home His plane had just landed on the island Montreal. He already felt nostalgic
ever since he left Marseilles, his hometown. He asked himself whether he will enjoy living blissfully
or suffer in this province because people here are very different than those living in France. Pascal
de Bonaventure was enrolled to Westmount High School. He joined the French immersion program
and took every other enriched course. Pascal was head and shoulders above the rest of the students
in France. He was an intellectual Haitian teenager with a strongly built body and an afro shaped like
a tree. He would naturally have this austere demeanor; he would always put up a serious and cold–
looking face at all times. School started and he headed to his first period, French class. He took a
seat in the farthest corner of the classroom. Pascal kept looking out through the window for what
seemed to be an eternity up until one of his classmates took a seat next to him. The young lad asked
him: –"Hey, new kid, what's your name?" –Pascal replied with a disgruntled look on his face: "Why
does it matter to you, the teacher will call me out later." His classmate gave him a puzzled look with
a hint of frustration. Once class was dismissed, the boy from earlier formally introduced himself and

A new beginning was laid forth the day Prometheus discovered Individualism and the importance of
the ego, though for now, he had an experiential task laid upon his broad shoulders. Forevermore, he

Odysseus. Now that several years have passed since his grand discovery, his plans were to awe his

Guilt And Dilemmas In Tillie Olsen's I Stand Here Ironing
In her short story "I Stand Here Ironing", Tillie Olsen tells the story of a mother who wrestles with
guilt and justification in the circumstances surrounding her daughter's troubles. The teacher sends a
request to meet to discuss Emily's problems in school (Olsen, 607). Word choices the educator uses
in her request shows her desperation to help Emily (Olsen, 607) however, the appeal strikes deeply
rooted wounds and worries for the mother (Olsen, 608–612).
As the nurture, a mother is concerned with all her decisions, as well as uncontrollable elements in
her child's life; and what impact it will have on the child, both long and short term. This is a burden
every mother carries, but when hardships contribute to those decisions, the worry intensifies. Often
the lesser of two evils (and prayer for the best outcome) is the only option. This seems to have been
the case for Emily's mother, beginning with her divorce and life as a single mother (Olsen, 608).
In trying to strike a balance between being the provider and the nurturer, single mothers may have to
make decisions that can affect the bond they have with their child. Emily's mother had to do this
when she sent the child to her former in–laws because she could not make enough money to provide
for her (Olsen, 608). This is not only a stumbling block for the child's development, it is a heartache
that can never be extinguished for the mother, even after the child has returned (Olsen, 608). The
mother will undoubtedly wonder

Every time I see Sean in the hallways, or in class, I do not even know what to say or do. I lose my

The And The Qur ' An Essay
His reference to the Qur'an brings back to the moment he began establishing ethos with his stream
of metaphors that explain the ripple effect. Although, this time, he uses a more positive tone in the
sense that one good deed will lead to an infinite amount of good deeds. It's almost as if he carefully
chose this reference and purposefully delivers it 10 minutes after making the stream of metaphors.
Making a connection like that with a huge time gap is a very difficult task and requires a lot of
eloquence, something that only Barack Obama and a few other speakers possess. Each part of the
speech includes proof and refutation. For example, when Obama brings up the issue of Iraq, He
provides the logical argument that America has the responsibilities of helping Iraq and leaving Iraq
to Iraqis. The refutation occurs when he acknowledges nine–eleven and how it led to reactions that
were against traditional belief and made the promise to take troops out of Iraq by 2012. He also
makes the promise to have Guantanamo Bay closed. These promises were big promises that
received great attention. I consider the promise Obama made about bringing all troops back from
Iraq by 2012 to be one of the most impactful promises that he made as a president because it affects
nearly everyone's family and friends in the United States. The next part that is about the issue of
Palestinians and Israelis. He brings up the history and logical argument about each side of the story

Essay about Graduation Speech
Class of 2012, tonight is the last time we will share together for many years. After tonight, we will
begin a new chapter in our lives. This chapter will lead us away from each other, but the memories
we've shared will continue to stay. The years behind us have been full of challenges and rewards;
these experiences will be there to guide us as we branch out into the world.
Let's take a moment to think back to the people and times that shaped us the last four years. Every
teacher deserves a "thank you" for helping us to reach our goal of graduation. The love and support
of our families has been greatly appreciated. But truly, the main ingredient of our high school

our freedom, our country and our flag. But the year continued with Sleep–In Wednesdays... I mean
Academic Seminar Wednesdays and prom to help carry us through.
Then last but not least, we became seniors! It seemed too good to be true. We were overwhelmed
with senior meetings, senior pictures, ordering caps and gowns and finishing all the requirements of
graduation. These last few months have forced us to take responsibility to reach our goals and grab
hold of challenges. All of the uproar of the year made us bind together. We have encouraged each
other to keep going and helped each other endure all of Mr. Angelos' long stories. Senioritis has
taken a toll on us, but in the past few weeks, we've found our motivation once again in preparation
for this memorable day.
As we leave here tonight and go our separate ways, Shana and I would like to wish each of you
good luck on your journey and to take care of yourselves. Hopefully, all the friendships and
memories we've made through the years will not end tonight. As we hug each other goodbye and say
our farewells, let us not forget what this ceremony is all about. It marks a new beginning. So, take
on challenges, and don't be afraid to take a strong step into the next chapter of your life. In closing,

My Experience : My First Day In High School
When I thought about getting my first job I imagined that it would be exciting; I would meet all
these new people and make all these new friends. It reminded me of how I felt on my first day of
high school. I was anxious but excited that I even daydreamed of what it was going to be like. I
decided to reinvent myself and my look, which is something that I would always do on my first day
back to school. Most times I would change my hair and other times I would change my handwriting.
It felt like a new beginning and I wanted to present a new me to the world. But as usual reality rarely
ever meets expectation, not everyone is enthusiastic about work and some people just don't know
how to be professional.
I was 18 years old at the time, living in Jamaica and attending Colbourne College. Normally, I
would participate in volunteer service programs during the summer with the National Youth Service;
but, in 2010 I decided to get a part–time job at Mega Mart, one of the largest supermarket chains in
the Jamaica. My first day started on a Saturday morning. I met two of my supervisors Carlene and
Jacky; and also three coworkers Sean, Stacy, and Christina. Carlene was the person responsible for
training me and it went so well that by the next day I was already doing things on my own. Carlene
was pleased that I was catching on really fast. On a typical work day, I would restock shelves, assist
customers with finding products and once in a while I would be on the cash register. Most of my

Review Of ' Who Moved My Cheese '
Who Moved My Cheese is about how to make changes in your life and work. The story has four
characters Hem and Haw, who are human. And Sniff and Scurry, who are mice. They are metaphors
for different parts of your life. They all have a task in hand, to find cheese. "Cheese" is a person's
life goals. In the maze, or a person's environment is where they need to seek cheese.
Both the mice and the humans pair off. They all need to find cheese, which is success. The humans
and the mice find cheese. The humans act like their in charge and decide who they will consume the
cheese. The mice return to the station with cheese, but there isn't any left. They aren't shocked by
what they find.
I feel like it's another metaphor, people trying to find achievement any cost. They will do whatever it
takes to be on top. So they step on people and don't care about the outcome. It's them above
everyone else. Eventually all of the cheese is gone. And when the mice find out, they leave and go
on to the next station. They knew this would be the outcome. It's like every man for himself. The
humans are angered by the absence of the cheese. Hem and Haw are ill–equipped because they
depended on the "cheese" for support. This is a metaphor for working and eventually being fired
from your job. You have taken it for granted and have become unprofessional, so you're let go.
One human, haw thinks of looking for new start. He was suggesting moving on from this step back
and starting a new life. But Hem is

A Comparison OfThe Sacred And Vegetarian Physics?
The message that a poem carries is something that the reader must construct with their ideas and
perspective they hold in order to find the true interpretation of a poem. The poems "The Sacred" and
"Vegetarian Physics" both share some similarities and differences within one another. Both of these
poems also contain imagery. They also contain symbolism in order to describe their message. The
difference between these poems, is the message that they deliver to the reader. Each of them posses
their own unique meaning. These poems also both compare different objects to real life things in
order to be more abstract with their idea.
The poem "The Sacred" uses a special metaphor in order to describe the journey of life. The author
uses a car that signifies the beginning of new journey through life. A new beginning to start with no
second thoughts. "A car could take him from the need. To speak, or to answer, the key, In having a
key, and putting it in, and going". Here the author describes how the student will take the this key, or
what could be described as a decision that was made by the student. This student is taking this key
or decision, putting it into the car, or a new beginning to life. The definite decision of a student to set
forth himself to begin a new chapter in his or her life. In the poem, "Vegetarian Physics" we are also
introduced to unique symbolism used by the author. Here the author decided to use tofu and a
frigidaire in order to symbolize what could be

Tender Napalm by Philip Ridley
Tender Napalm is a play by the celebrated, contemporary British playwright Philip Ridley.1 The
play was published in 2011 and premiered in the Southwark Playhouse in London. Ridley's oeuvre
consists of work in eclectic styles and written for various different audiences (he is a prolific creator
of material for children, as well as plays for adults with difficult and often violent themes). Many
attempts have been made to classify Ridley within the so–called "in–yer–face" movement within
British theatre, however most critics acknowledge that his plays are unique and often defy
classification.2 Tender Napalm features many of the hallmarks of Ridley's writing (violent imagery,
obsession with the power of language, and distorted memories), but the play is perhaps most
interesting for its rather unique structure. This paper will give an overview of the plot of the play
and attempt to outline its main structural elements, before moving towards an analysis of how the
structure operates. Comparisons will be drawn with Aristotle's theories of theatrical structure, in
order to examine how the play's structure sits within traditional models of Western playmaking, but
also pushes against them in innovative ways. Ultimately, this paper will argue that the structure of
the play is, in and of itself, performative. The plot of the play deals in fractured memories and an
attempt to re–experience the past, that which is always–already absent. The structure of the play
functions to disrupt the

Hansberry Make The Turning Point Of Karl Lindner
Explore the ways in which Hansberry makes the first visit of Karl Lindner such an intense scene.
Hansberry's play captures how Chicago (and America in general) was around the 1950's; although
Chicago claimed to be anti–racist, Hansberry shows what life was like for black families in that day
and age. It also has elements from her own life in it, making it a more realistic story. Hansberry used
many techniques to create a build–up of tension until Karl Lindner came out with what he had to
say, which was racially prejudiced and very discriminatory towards the family. This was the turning
point in the play where everything they worked for was starting to go wrong. A way tension was
built was by the way in which Lindner was treated in the beginning. ... Show more content on

Lindner is very nervous and seems to not know how to tackle the situation, therefore he tries to
avoid it for a great period of time and sends Beneatha through different states of emotion. At first
Beneatha is quick to understand what he is aiming to say but later on Lindner misleads her by saying
"I am sure you people must be aware of some of the incidents which have happened in various parts
of the city, when coloured people moved into certain areas." By this he meant violence directed
toward the Black families that moved into white neighbourhoods – this could also be a masked
threat towards the family. Afterwards, he tells them that he and his neighbourhood not only 'deplore
that kind of thing' but they are trying to do something about it. After he says this it seems as though
he is going to say something more pleasant, he has also got the family encouraging him to do so.
This increases the tension because it is right before the message is clear, you can see that by the way
Lindner is talking, which is clearer and there is no constant manipulation of his word order. He is
also gaining confidence to finish up his 'speech.' It is also stated clearly in the stage directions "
(more encouraged by such affirmation)." The family at this point is expecting something positive
from him, but after he says "Our people out there feel that people get along better, take more of a
common interest in the life of the community, when they share a common background." To put it
simply, he and his neighbourhood are telling them that they are unwanted just because they do not
have a 'common background' by this meaning skin colour. Lindner also thinks that the family is
willing to agree and he is willing to buy back the house. This leaves the family in utter disbelief, you
can see this when Ruth exclaims "ain't this a living gall!" Meaning 'how does he

Character Analysis Of Freddie In The Shade
Were you ever nervous and bothered about changing the life you've lived the most? Freddie in the
Shade, written by Pam Munoz Ryan, is about a young boy named Freddie who struggles with
realizing the beauty of change and moving forward in life. Having a hard time with moving on,
Freddie is left disagreeable but soon begins to let go of the past and becomes acceptable to new
things coming his way. Freddie is an interesting character because he likes to have power over his
own life but he tries to hold himself down to feel empathy for those he truly cares for. There are
several events and examples throughout the story Freddie in the Shade, that express Freddie as a
strong, caring, and kindhearted character.
Freddy can be described as disagreeable at the beginning of the story although at the end of the story
he becomes acceptable and open to new beginnings. For example, in the beginning of the story on
page 12 the author states "For weeks, Freddie had been hibernating in his room, trying to avoid dad
and Maggie. They tried to include him in every boring preparation for the baby." With the evidence,
the author provides us we can predict that Freddie doesn't like when he is pushed into doing
something he doesn't want to do leaving Freddie very disagreeable and stubborn. On the very first
paragraph of page 11, the narrator states "Freddie hoped that the dark shades would protect him
from anything else that might disrupt his life." From the statement, the author provides in

How Does Chopin Present The Women In The Story Of An Hour
Although Chopin wrote the piece "The Story of an Hour" during a time of patriarchal societies set in
the 1800's, she explores the inner female mind through the use of her feminine lens. During the
story, the author walks through the events of Louise Mallard. A family friend informs her of the
death of her husband. The majority of the story focuses on the complex emotions Louise feels
throughout the hour. The story ends with the arrival of Brently Mallard and the sudden death of
Louise. By showing the reader the true thoughts of opinion, Chopin utilizes, shows, connects the
activities of one woman to those of all women in similar situations.
In this piece, Chopin addresses women through the power of men in relationships. In 1894, women
held no power over their lives and relationship; they relied heavily on the men in their lives to
provide for the family. The death of Brently Mallard introduced Louise to the freedom. Because he
no longer is in control of the household, she will now be able to experience life on her terms and
"live for herself." She enforces this through her statement, "there would no powerful will bending

Toto, Were Not in Kansas Anymore
I was not surprised when I was told we were moving again. Moving from place to place was
something I accepted into my life. My mom always had a good reason to leave and start a new
adventure somewhere else. The whole move happened fairly quickly. Mom made the announcement
while we were riding in the car. My sister and I mourned over our lives we were leaving behind for
the remainder of that ride. Our brains were programmed to adapt to new things rapidly, so the
mourning stage did not last very long. I guess you could call it a survival instinct. Anyway, just after
two days of the decision, our house immediately began to be packed up. Everything we owned had
to be stuffed into the smallest amount of boxes possible. When you start to pack up your room, let
alone your whole house, you start to realize how much stuff you really have. As a nine year old
sitting on my bedroom floor, this task seemed impossible to accomplish. ... Show more content on

We came to Tazewell from a place in Kansas about fourteen hours away. To say the least, we
stopped at many gas stations. At every one we had the same routine to go through. We used the
bathroom, went inside, got drinks and snacks, paid for them, and got back on the road as promptly
as a mother and two kids could. Since it was such a long ride, we had to spend a night in a hotel.
From the perspective of two young kids, the hotel was like a jungle gym. Every turn we took
presented a new thing. This particular hotel had many different kinds of rooms to enjoy, though
most weren't for kids. For example, they had a swimming pool, business center, a gym, and even a
spa. We went into every room we could without getting caught and ran through the halls until Mom
told us to come to bed. The next morning we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast, got the few
things we brought in, and headed on our way

Millions Danny Hales Essay
In the film, Millions, directed by Danny Boyle, a compelling character who intrigues me is the
antagonistic Anthony Cunningham. I find his complex character interesting as he is still grieving for
his mother's tragic death whilst managing to use her death to his advantage. Also, his way of
thinking and dealing with the money is very different to from many other kids his age would do. His
way of thinking has a powerful awareness of right from wrong – but throughout the movie he gets it
jumbled up a bit...
The film is set during the changing of all European currencies to a single currency – the Euro. Due
to this, we can see that money is going to take a significant role in the film. Anthony (along with his
family) are dealing with the repercussion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anthony is still struggling within the stages of grief and is trying hard to mask it. The director shows
this in the opening scene, the two boys delightedly lay down next to each other after riding their
bikes. As the two brothers lay down next to each other, we can see that Damian is wearing a blue
shirt which can often be interpreted as sorrow or calmness. While Anthony is wearing a red jacket
which is normally deciphered as hatred or anger. However under Anthony's red jacket, we can see
that he is also wearing a blue shirt. The director's purpose of doing this is to foreshadow that
Anthony is using ignorance to mask his misery and woe. The director shows us that Anthony
disguises his sadness with annoyance towards the end of the movie when Damian brings Dorothy
into their house. This is shown because we can see Anthony thinking that she is there to replace their
mother. Due to this, we see him whispering a angry hushed tone "Is that what you want? Her in
there with him, instead of Mum?". Personally, this is quite understandable because I know that it is
extremely difficult to be going through the stages of grief after someone–who–is–close–to–you's
death. This could link back to my first paragraph – Anthony wants to keep a close relationship with
Damian by trying to set a good example by moving on. Anthony struggling through the hardships
may also be why he is pulled in by tempting 'money from

New World Beginnings ( 33000 B.C

  • 1. New World Beginnings ( 33000 B.c New World Beginnings (33,000 B.C. – A.D. 1769) First Paragraph The earth was formed over 6 billion years ago, yet in terms of time, only recently was a Western civilization formed. Even more recently, the Americas were accidentally discovered, and they would prove to drastically influence and alter the future of earth. The Shaping of North America The Americas were formed from the single supercontinent that contained all of the earth's landmass. Some 225 million years ago, a single supercontinent contained all the world's dry land chunks of terrain began to separate, thus creating the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans, as well as forming the great continents that would be Europe, Asia,, Australia, Africa, Antarctica, and the Americas North America was shaped through a multitude of natural occurrences. Continued shifting and folding of the earth's crust thrust up mountain ranges. When the glaciers finally melted about 10,000 years ago, they created and the North American landscape as we know it today Peopling the Americas Natural occurrences also helped for a population in the Americas. the glaciers contributed to the origins of the continent's human history Although it is uncertain, many believe that the glaciers of the Ice Age melted and gave way to the Bering land bridge that allowed people to populate the Americas from Eurasia. At the same time, the ice caps over the diverse and vast geology of the Americas melted, allowing people to travel and populate down to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Personal Narrative: A Twisted Coverbook Word Count: 837 A Tattered Cover Book Cliché, as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary, can be a "stereotyped expression, a commonplace phrase; also, a stereotyped character, style, etc." (OED, n. 3.a.). We often use and hear numerous phrases that classifies as a cliché. I am one of the guilty many that scoffs at and mumbles "Ugh" under my breath, accompanied by an exaggerated rolling of the eyes every time these worn out expressions are used. However, as I sit here in the dark, laughing at myself with my dog at my side, I cannot help but realize that I am about to use a cliché: "you can't judge a book by its cover"; I am all of the brilliant pages inside a tattered cover book. As an official member of the student body at the University of California at Irvine, pursuing a degree in Biological Sciences, I had a newfound sense of freedom, pride and accomplishment; I was first in my family to attend college. My parents shared my excitement, a bit too much at times, I remember. Nevertheless, I was happy that they were proud. Classes started. I did fairly well in high school. Getting good grades without, putting much effort. I could have done better. Applying the same principles of studying I was accustomed to in high school, I thought I had the right formula to achieve the grades. Enveloped in a cloud of euphoric intoxication from an overdose of independence, I thought I knew it all at eighteen. A big brick of reality suddenly hit me on the head when I first saw my failing grades. I was consumed with anger, but with no one else to blame. I was defeated and fell into a deep state of depression and desperation. I gave up too quickly and spent the remaining days of my proudest moment in life just going through the motions; going to classes, hanging out with friends, taking exams and getting the worst grades imaginable. I was hanging on to whatever was left with my newly found independence. I will not be able to return to school the following year. I saw the look on my parents' eyes as they picked me up from the university: disappointment; I was no longer the son they thought they knew. I went back home feeling lost ... • 5. Identify the stages of a series of counselling sessions... 1 .1 Identify the stages of a series of counselling sessions The beginning The beginning of the counselling process starts when the client first meets the counsellor, the saying "first impressions count" is absolutely true for both the client and counsellor, the client will be very nervous and unsure what is about to take place. The way the counsellor approaches the client in this infant stage is vital for the client to gain trust and has the willingness to open up in later sessions. Some clients may just rush into what is troubling them or say nothing, in both cases the counsellor will need to be patient, observe and listen to what is being said as there will be vital information given and without understanding this it could damage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1.2 Evaluate the importance of an appropriate opening of a series of sessions In my opinion the beginning of the counselling session is one of the most important stage of the process, the client will be very nervous and will not fully trust the process they are about to embark on, their unknown journey they will be nervous. The Client may hold back what they are feeling until they have gained the trust of the counsellor, and know they are safe and in a confidential environment. Another important factor in the opening stage is to draw up a contract and discuss the content with the client, this will demonstrate it's a working relationship and both the client and counsellor will know their barriers, it also gives structure and prevents any misunderstanding in the relationship. By having a contract it demonstrates to the client they are safe and able to speak freely also it shows the client that each session if totally confidential, there are exceptions to the rule and these will be included in the contract and what the process will be if they disclose anything that is unlawful. Having unconditional positive regard from the beginning will display to the client there is no hidden agenda and that the counsellor is non–judgmental, this will support the client to develop the working relationship and show the client they are valued and wanted, they will start to relax to open up freely and loosen up their attitude towards the session. 1.3 ... When you are late for work, spill coffee down the front of your shirt, and realize you accidentally wore two different shoes? Or how about when you thought you were in love, and you got your heart broken into a million pieces and it felt like you would never be okay again? What about when you had to say goodbye to your best friends when you left for college? I believe in a new beginnings. • 9. Reflection Paper I used to not think this to be true, but once it happened in my life, I became a strong believer in it. I would hear, "Sometimes you have to let things go, so there's room for better things to come into your life." I convinced myself to think that this was just a phrase people told themselves and others to make one another believe that life would get better. It wasn't until one day that I believed it too. I was very appreciative for the life I had and the people I had living in it. I had a family to support and care for me and friends to spend time with. As my friends and I grew older and began maturing, we began to see the true colors in one another. We had different beliefs and opinions, and faced up hill battles with one another. Years of a close friendship began to crumble, until it whittled away to nothing. Years of memories burned away and laughs shared between two people suddenly became deceiving glares of anger in the halls. Losing the friendship I held with another for nearly four years was what was the most challenging. Someone who knew everything about you, who knew you better than you knew yourself, was now just another figure in the crowd. We become so acclimated with objects once they become a part of our life, that when they're gone we question on how to live without them. Seeing things reminded me of the bond that wasn't supposed to break, and I wondered how I would ever lift myself up from the beating I'd just taken. As time passed on, I saw the ... • 11. Relationship Between Narrator And Dog In Jeanette... In Jeanette Winterson's, "The 24–Hour Dog", the relationship between narrator and dog is a loyal one where as in Ken Barris', "The Life of Worm", the relationship between narrator and dog is quite strained. This essay will aim to discuss these stories in relation to one another, how they differ and relate to one another. Lillian Feder writes about madness in, "Madness in Literature", this will be used to highlight the mental states of both narrators. The relationship each narrator shares with his dog is unique, in Harold Herzog's, "The Impact of Pets on Human Health and Psychological Well– being: Fact, Fiction, or Hypothesis", he discusses how pets can actually affect your mental health. Symbolism is often used by writers to enrich their writing, making it more colourful and it gives the work a deeper meaning (1). Symbolism is used in literature and certain colours, objects and animals have specific connotations (2). Black is generally used to represent death or something evil, where a chain symbolizes the coming together of two things (2). Just like this a dog is a symbol of a loyal, trusting relationship (2). My whole life I have been traveling in and out of mexico and that is my favorite place to go. Growing up getting use to going to Mexico I paid little attention to what was actually going on when i would travel. Traveling truly meant getting away from reality, having freedom, and getting to know yourself better. These three things have been developing every time i would travel and will continue every single time i continue to repeat the pattern. Many new possibilities can appear just by buying a single ticket that can help you view everything differently in a matter of time. Getting the news from my parents that they had already bought the flight tickets was almost as important as the day of actually getting there. I remember my favorite part was being able to see the ticket that gave me motivation to perform my best at everything I did the last couple of days that i was still here because i knew that soon in would be able to spend time with my family. Spending time with my family has always been by far my favorite thing to do when I am in mexico because it is not a everyday thing where i can go visit my grandparents. As i spend time with them i get to learn a lot of where my parents came from and i get to know myself better as well i learn about the history ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Eyes Were Watching God Character Analysis Model Amber Valletta wrote, "We are what we see. We are products of our surroundings." A major element of someone's personality is due to their environment or past events of their lives. Janie Crawford is certainly not an exception. This is the story of Janie's Pursuit for love where she, a widowed woman, unfolds her story to her friend Pheoby at dinner. She talks about her childhood with Nanny and The Washburns, her relationships with Logan Killicks and Joe Starks or Jody, her experiences with them along with events that took place while being with them or in relation to them, how they affected her mentality, and how she grows up and matures throughout her life to the self–reliant woman telling the story. In The Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston, the struggles in Janie's problematic relationships with Logan and Joe impacted her, which gave her more and more experiences to gradually building up to the independent woman she is in the beginning of the story. The beginning phase of Janie's development was her marriage to Logan, where she thought that the marriage which Nanny forced upon her might end up fulfilling her aspiration for love. Logan was very nice to Janie at the beginning, but later, as time went by, he wasn't as nice to her anymore. One morning Logan called for Janie for her to come out and help him with his work in the fields. "Janie!" Logan called harshly. "Come help me move dis manure pile befo' de sun gits hot. Many individual cope well with their lives changing, but for others, (like myself), have a harder time adapting to a new routine. A lot of us enjoy living a life–style that is expected every day, furthermore, we live happier and comfortably. In 1998, Dr. Spencer Johnson introduced Who Moved My Cheese, to the world a fable on how to adapt to major chances to one's life and to do so in a more positive attitude. The book as influenced many people, such as well–respected broadcaster Charlie Jones of NBC. He admits that Dr. Johnson's book may have saved his carrier. Jones is very familiar with broadcasting Track and Field events at Olympic games, he then found out that his boss had removed him from his familiar events and was then assign to broadcast swimming and diving, a sport he knew very little about. Jones grew doubtful and frustrated with the adjustment of his career. Like most people, he did that adapt well to change. His anger affected everything thing he did, including himself, he became very unhappy with his job that he enjoyed doing. Jones then heard Dr. Johnson's successful and life changing story of Who moved my Cheese. He then altered his attitude and outlook on his new way of living. He stated that doing something new; out of his old routine made him feel youthful and refreshed. His boss then recognized his new positive energy and attitude, and he soon got better, beneficial assignments for work. He became more successful than ever and was then inducted into Pro Football's Hall of Fame, Broadcaster's alley. This domino effect can demonstrate how such an impactable book like "Who Move my Cheese" can do to someone. From difficulties at work, or even struggling in a relationship, the book can open anyone's life to a new positive beginning. Dr. Johnson is a strong believer that his novel can impact and touch the lives of countless people. The book is divided into 3 sections. The first section shows a former classmate reunion, they discuss how much their life has changed out of high school. The second section is the focus of Who Moved My Cheese? • 19. Selfhood In Kate Chopin's The Story Of An Hour During the late of the nineteenth century, the American society had witnessed the abolishment of slavery, but still women had no right to vote until 1920. It makes sense, then, that freedom and feminine selfhood would be of great concern to the forerunners of modern feminism. Kate Chopin's The Story of an Hour was written in April 1894. In this story, initiated by the false news of Louise Mallard's husband's death in a train accident, Chopin presents us with a picture of a subjugated female protagonist feeling a powerful joy for the death of her husband that will give a promising path of freedom. Chopin's exploration of the themes of feminine selfhood, the yearning for freedom, independence and new life and of what she calls the "possession of self–assertion" is vividly displayed in a rich and colorful ... It takes place in the Malards residence, the home of Brently and Louise Mallard and it starts in a public setting, probably the living room or even the kitchen because people are gathered there, where Josephine reveals, very gently, to her sister that her husband is passed away after a horrible train accident. The scope of this story is actually super limited: The primary action of the story occurs within the Mallards' home and it is striking that besides the fact that female characters, and only, are always inside the house, the characters that entered it did never leave it, as if they are caged in. Equally, Mrs. Mallard seems to be pretty confined to the house because she "was afflicted with a heart trouble". Her heart being physically sick is very symbolic of her emotional and psychic state of sickness caused by her feelings being trapped in her marital life of subjugation. The idea of confinement is widely reinforced by the image of the internal doors , not only the external ones, being firmly locked by the aid of a "latchkey" which was opened only once during the ... • 21. Story Of An Hour Character Analysis In the short yet complex work "The Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin, readers see a woman who goes through a complete spectrum of emotions in the short span of an hour. When the main character learns that her husband is dead, like most, she is shocked and utterly filled with grief. As the story continues, a dramatic change takes place within the mind of the main character, Louise. Upon the conclusion of her natural, wifely grief, she realizes that she is finally out from under the grasp of her husband and is now a free woman in a time when men dominated life at home and the goings on of society. Through his death, Louise finds the opportunity to be born again. Many of the emotions that the main character goes through are depicted through the imagery of her constantly changing environment, and the author specifically uses the architecture of her home as a main tool. In the story, the use of visual imagery projects the rise and fall of the main character as her life transitions quickly back and forth. Through an analysis of her characterization, these changes ultimately prove too much for her to handle. In Chopin's "The Story of an Hour," a character analysis can be performed based on the changes in her environment compared to the changes in her life situation. The layout of the world around Louise is used to show her initial grief, sudden realization of freedom, and her gateway to a new life free from oppression of men. As I was going through the second exhibition a particular painting caught my attention. Still life with three puppies by Paul Gauguin was titled. My first encounter with this painting was through the title, which made me create negative hypothesis on what the painting was depicting. When looking at this painting all I could think about was my lack of fascination towards animals, especially puppies, while the person standing next to me was sighing and smiling about according to her "how cute the puppies are". Unlike that person, I am not an admirer of puppies and as result I move quickly from the painting. However, as I made a second round on the exhibition, this time when I saw the painting I was beginning to notice things like shapes, symbols and colors and immediately forgot about my initial reaction. I begin to realize that there might be more to the painting than what I originally saw, but I have been blind from my initial judgments. In my second observation I was able to look pass this initial judgments drawn by the title. The title "Still Life with Three Puppies" confirm my assumptions about the painting and prevented me from continuing seeing what the painting is trying to depict. This name limited my thinking and didn't allow me to see the painting from what it is. The pursuit of that dream is the hope that makes us live. But we do not know the risk and obstacles that we will face along the way to that dream, or how good or bad it will be to following our personal legend. The USA is a dream for a lot of people that don't live there, this is not only for being a democratic country but also because of a good system of education and a place for a better life.Everyone wants to become part of this dream, and there is a good way how to go there like winning the DV lottery that is a chance that helps and open a new door for a lot of people. It was exactly this dream that came true for me when I win the DV lottery and planned to live in the USA. In chapter four, Yunior introduces himself and continues to demonstrate the dictatorship through Oscar's life in college through the development of their friendship. By comparing and contrasting the writing style of chapter four and the rest of the book, there is a noticeable difference. The beginning of the chapter explains Yunior's involvement of the De Leon Family that "it started with me" (Diaz 167). Before Yunior meets Oscar, he announces, "Move in with him. In fucking Demarest. For instance, the subtitle for two passages were "La Inca Speaks" and "Ybon, As Recorded by Oscar." It's clearly stated that one of the passages is from La Inca and the other is from Ybon, presenting two contradicting perspectives. In comparison La Inca's passage incorporated Spanish words, whereas Oscar described on's thoughts all in English, resembling the clash of Dominican and American culture in the novel. La Inca claimed, "He didn't meet her on the street like he told you. His cousins, los idiots, took him to a cabaret and that's where he first saw her. And that's where ella se metio por sus ojos" (Diaz 289). From La Inca's point of view we learned that Oscar met Ybon in a cabaret, whereas earlier Yunior stated that they bumped into each other as they were walking. The two different version of the story: Oscar's version is more of an innocent coincidence rather than La Inca's version, yet there isn't a correct version as they are both biased. Oscar can make up his version to prove that there's another side to Ybon, instead of a prostitute in the cabaret. On the other hand, La Inca and his mother were enraged by Oscar's choice and only saw her as nothing more but a prostitute, which led to La Inca's belief that the one possible way to meet a prostitute is in a cabaret. La Inca's bitter and contemptuous tone displayed her dislike and disapproval towards Ybon, Oscar's one true love. Ybon shared how she prefered not to come back to Santo Domingo, though after seeing more of the world she knows she can get used to anything. Both speak in their own voice briefly, but both greatly differed from how Yunior has previously described Ybon's circumstances. Likewise, other characters' voice are occasionally shown through the dialogue or sometimes in the apprentices that would clearly points out –"([Yunior] read in [Oscar's] journal)" – the ... I came to Vermont on December 09th, 2008. I was about 14 years old, and I had no idea what I was thinking of. I was so confused, and I didn't speak English at all. I thought I was lost because I saw so many diverse people I've never seen in my life. I felt uncomfortable to be here because I didn't understand what it was going on this state. I thought that I was in wrong place because it wasn't easy for me to start living in Vermont. Living in Vermont made feel like I was totally blank in my mind because I felt dislocated and insecure. For example, I was scared to go outside and hang out with other friends because I thought they would hit me or laugh at me. I remember playing around with my neighbors; they came to me and asked me if I could play with them. I was totally lost because I didn't understand what they asked me. They kept mumbling words I couldn't understand at all. I felt unwanted to be with them because they didn't speak my native language. As I left them, they started laughing so hard, and I was afraid of asking them what they were laughing. As long as they kept laughing, I suddenly ran to my room with anger. When I got into my room, I started nodding my head and wondering what I could I do to just forget what I saw a outside. I was so worried because I thought that this country wasn't right place for me. Guilt And Dilemmas In Tillie Olsen's I Stand Here Ironing In her short story "I Stand Here Ironing", Tillie Olsen tells the story of a mother who wrestles with guilt and justification in the circumstances surrounding her daughter's troubles. The teacher sends a request to meet to discuss Emily's problems in school (Olsen, 607). Word choices the educator uses in her request shows her desperation to help Emily (Olsen, 607) however, the appeal strikes deeply rooted wounds and worries for the mother (Olsen, 608–612). As the nurture, a mother is concerned with all her decisions, as well as uncontrollable elements in her child's life; and what impact it will have on the child, both long and short term. This is a burden every mother carries, but when hardships contribute to those decisions, the worry intensifies. Often the lesser of two evils (and prayer for the best outcome) is the only option. This seems to have been the case for Emily's mother, beginning with her divorce and life as a single mother (Olsen, 608). In trying to strike a balance between being the provider and the nurturer, single mothers may have to make decisions that can affect the bond they have with their child. Emily's mother had to do this when she sent the child to her former in–laws because she could not make enough money to provide for her (Olsen, 608). This is not only a stumbling block for the child's development, it is a heartache that can never be extinguished for the mother, even after the child has returned (Olsen, 608). Every time I see Sean in the hallways, or in class, I do not even know what to say or do. I lose my train of thought, ability to speak, and get this weird feeling in my stomach. • 52. The And The Qur ' An Essay His reference to the Qur'an brings back to the moment he began establishing ethos with his stream of metaphors that explain the ripple effect. Although, this time, he uses a more positive tone in the sense that one good deed will lead to an infinite amount of good deeds. It's almost as if he carefully chose this reference and purposefully delivers it 10 minutes after making the stream of metaphors. Making a connection like that with a huge time gap is a very difficult task and requires a lot of eloquence, something that only Barack Obama and a few other speakers possess. Each part of the speech includes proof and refutation. For example, when Obama brings up the issue of Iraq, He provides the logical argument that America has the responsibilities of helping Iraq and leaving Iraq to Iraqis. The refutation occurs when he acknowledges nine–eleven and how it led to reactions that were against traditional belief and made the promise to take troops out of Iraq by 2012. He also makes the promise to have Guantanamo Bay closed. These promises were big promises that received great attention. I consider the promise Obama made about bringing all troops back from Iraq by 2012 to be one of the most impactful promises that he made as a president because it affects nearly everyone's family and friends in the United States. The next part that is about the issue of Palestinians and Israelis. He brings up the history and logical argument about each side of the story but ultimately refutes ... • 54. Essay about Graduation Speech Class of 2012, tonight is the last time we will share together for many years. After tonight, we will begin a new chapter in our lives. This chapter will lead us away from each other, but the memories we've shared will continue to stay. The years behind us have been full of challenges and rewards; these experiences will be there to guide us as we branch out into the world. Let's take a moment to think back to the people and times that shaped us the last four years. Every teacher deserves a "thank you" for helping us to reach our goal of graduation. The love and support of our families has been greatly appreciated. But truly, the main ingredient of our high school experience has been our peers. We all faced hardships, but we were able ... But the year continued with Sleep–In Wednesdays... I mean Academic Seminar Wednesdays and prom to help carry us through. Then last but not least, we became seniors! It seemed too good to be true. We were overwhelmed with senior meetings, senior pictures, ordering caps and gowns and finishing all the requirements of graduation. These last few months have forced us to take responsibility to reach our goals and grab hold of challenges. All of the uproar of the year made us bind together. We have encouraged each other to keep going and helped each other endure all of Mr. Angelos' long stories. Senioritis has taken a toll on us, but in the past few weeks, we've found our motivation once again in preparation for this memorable day. As we leave here tonight and go our separate ways, Shana and I would like to wish each of you good luck on your journey and to take care of yourselves. Hopefully, all the friendships and memories we've made through the years will not end tonight. As we hug each other goodbye and say our farewells, let us not forget what this ceremony is all about. It marks a new beginning. So, take on challenges, and don't be afraid to take a strong step into the next chapter of your life. In closing, we would like to leave you with a word of ... It reminded me of how I felt on my first day of high school. I was anxious but excited that I even daydreamed of what it was going to be like. I decided to reinvent myself and my look, which is something that I would always do on my first day back to school. Most times I would change my hair and other times I would change my handwriting. It felt like a new beginning and I wanted to present a new me to the world. But as usual reality rarely ever meets expectation, not everyone is enthusiastic about work and some people just don't know how to be professional. I was 18 years old at the time, living in Jamaica and attending Colbourne College. Normally, I would participate in volunteer service programs during the summer with the National Youth Service; but, in 2010 I decided to get a part–time job at Mega Mart, one of the largest supermarket chains in the Jamaica. My first day started on a Saturday morning. I met two of my supervisors Carlene and Jacky; and also three coworkers Sean, Stacy, and Christina. Carlene was the person responsible for training me and it went so well that by the next day I was already doing things on my own. Carlene was pleased that I was catching on really fast. On a typical work day, I would restock shelves, assist customers with finding products and once in a while I would be on the cash register. Most of my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 58. Review Of ' Who Moved My Cheese ' Who Moved My Cheese is about how to make changes in your life and work. The story has four characters Hem and Haw, who are human. And Sniff and Scurry, who are mice. They are metaphors for different parts of your life. They all have a task in hand, to find cheese. "Cheese" is a person's life goals. In the maze, or a person's environment is where they need to seek cheese. Both the mice and the humans pair off. They all need to find cheese, which is success. The humans and the mice find cheese. The humans act like their in charge and decide who they will consume the cheese. The mice return to the station with cheese, but there isn't any left. They aren't shocked by what they find. I feel like it's another metaphor, people trying to find achievement any cost. They will do whatever it takes to be on top. So they step on people and don't care about the outcome. It's them above everyone else. Eventually all of the cheese is gone. And when the mice find out, they leave and go on to the next station. They knew this would be the outcome. It's like every man for himself. The humans are angered by the absence of the cheese. Hem and Haw are ill–equipped because they depended on the "cheese" for support. This is a metaphor for working and eventually being fired from your job. You have taken it for granted and have become unprofessional, so you're let go. One human, haw thinks of looking for new start. He was suggesting moving on from this step back and starting a new life. But Hem is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. A Comparison OfThe Sacred And Vegetarian Physics? The message that a poem carries is something that the reader must construct with their ideas and perspective they hold in order to find the true interpretation of a poem. The poems "The Sacred" and "Vegetarian Physics" both share some similarities and differences within one another. Both of these poems also contain imagery. They also contain symbolism in order to describe their message. The difference between these poems, is the message that they deliver to the reader. Each of them posses their own unique meaning. These poems also both compare different objects to real life things in order to be more abstract with their idea. The poem "The Sacred" uses a special metaphor in order to describe the journey of life. The author uses a car that signifies the beginning of new journey through life. A new beginning to start with no second thoughts. "A car could take him from the need. To speak, or to answer, the key, In having a key, and putting it in, and going". Here the author describes how the student will take the this key, or what could be described as a decision that was made by the student. This student is taking this key or decision, putting it into the car, or a new beginning to life. The definite decision of a student to set forth himself to begin a new chapter in his or her life. In the poem, "Vegetarian Physics" we are also introduced to unique symbolism used by the author. Here the author decided to use tofu and a frigidaire in order to symbolize what could be ... • 62. Tender Napalm by Philip Ridley Tender Napalm is a play by the celebrated, contemporary British playwright Philip Ridley.1 The play was published in 2011 and premiered in the Southwark Playhouse in London. Ridley's oeuvre consists of work in eclectic styles and written for various different audiences (he is a prolific creator of material for children, as well as plays for adults with difficult and often violent themes). Many attempts have been made to classify Ridley within the so–called "in–yer–face" movement within British theatre, however most critics acknowledge that his plays are unique and often defy classification.2 Tender Napalm features many of the hallmarks of Ridley's writing (violent imagery, obsession with the power of language, and distorted memories), but the play is perhaps most interesting for its rather unique structure. This paper will give an overview of the plot of the play and attempt to outline its main structural elements, before moving towards an analysis of how the structure operates. Comparisons will be drawn with Aristotle's theories of theatrical structure, in order to examine how the play's structure sits within traditional models of Western playmaking, but also pushes against them in innovative ways. Ultimately, this paper will argue that the structure of the play is, in and of itself, performative. The plot of the play deals in fractured memories and an attempt to re–experience the past, that which is always–already absent. The structure of the play functions to disrupt the ... • 66. Hansberry Make The Turning Point Of Karl Lindner Explore the ways in which Hansberry makes the first visit of Karl Lindner such an intense scene. Hansberry's play captures how Chicago (and America in general) was around the 1950's; although Chicago claimed to be anti–racist, Hansberry shows what life was like for black families in that day and age. It also has elements from her own life in it, making it a more realistic story. Hansberry used many techniques to create a build–up of tension until Karl Lindner came out with what he had to say, which was racially prejudiced and very discriminatory towards the family. This was the turning point in the play where everything they worked for was starting to go wrong. A way tension was built was by the way in which Lindner was treated in the beginning. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lindner is very nervous and seems to not know how to tackle the situation, therefore he tries to avoid it for a great period of time and sends Beneatha through different states of emotion. At first Beneatha is quick to understand what he is aiming to say but later on Lindner misleads her by saying "I am sure you people must be aware of some of the incidents which have happened in various parts of the city, when coloured people moved into certain areas." By this he meant violence directed toward the Black families that moved into white neighbourhoods – this could also be a masked threat towards the family. Afterwards, he tells them that he and his neighbourhood not only 'deplore that kind of thing' but they are trying to do something about it. After he says this it seems as though he is going to say something more pleasant, he has also got the family encouraging him to do so. This increases the tension because it is right before the message is clear, you can see that by the way Lindner is talking, which is clearer and there is no constant manipulation of his word order. He is also gaining confidence to finish up his 'speech.' It is also stated clearly in the stage directions " (more encouraged by such affirmation)." The family at this point is expecting something positive from him, but after he says "Our people out there feel that people get along better, take more of a common interest in the life of the community, when they share a common background." To put it simply, he and his neighbourhood are telling them that they are unwanted just because they do not have a 'common background' by this meaning skin colour. Lindner also thinks that the family is willing to agree and he is willing to buy back the house. This leaves the family in utter disbelief, you can see this when Ruth exclaims "ain't this a living gall!" Meaning 'how does he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Freddie in the Shade, written by Pam Munoz Ryan, is about a young boy named Freddie who struggles with realizing the beauty of change and moving forward in life. Having a hard time with moving on, Freddie is left disagreeable but soon begins to let go of the past and becomes acceptable to new things coming his way. There are several events and examples throughout the story Freddie in the Shade, that express Freddie as a strong, caring, and kindhearted character. Freddy can be described as disagreeable at the beginning of the story although at the end of the story he becomes acceptable and open to new beginnings. For example, in the beginning of the story on page 12 the author states "For weeks, Freddie had been hibernating in his room, trying to avoid dad and Maggie. They tried to include him in every boring preparation for the baby." How Does Chopin Present The Women In The Story Of An Hour Although Chopin wrote the piece "The Story of an Hour" during a time of patriarchal societies set in the 1800's, she explores the inner female mind through the use of her feminine lens. During the story, the author walks through the events of Louise Mallard. A family friend informs her of the death of her husband. The majority of the story focuses on the complex emotions Louise feels throughout the hour. The story ends with the arrival of Brently Mallard and the sudden death of Louise. By showing the reader the true thoughts of opinion, Chopin utilizes, shows, connects the activities of one woman to those of all women in similar situations. In this piece, Chopin addresses women through the power of men in relationships. In 1894, women held no power over their lives and relationship; they relied heavily on the men in their lives to provide for the family. The death of Brently Mallard introduced Louise to the freedom. Because he no longer is in control of the household, she will now be able to experience life on her terms and "live for herself." She enforces this through her statement, "there would no powerful will bending hers in that blind persistence with which men and women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... North America was being shaped by nature, and it would remain the same for centuries –Peopling the Americas . the first humans to come to America came by land, the ice age caused the sea level to drop, revealing a land bridge that connected North America and Eurasia . Moving from place to place was something I accepted into my life. My mom always had a good reason to leave and start a new adventure somewhere else. The whole move happened fairly quickly. Mom made the announcement while we were riding in the car. My sister and I mourned over our lives we were leaving behind for the remainder of that ride. Our brains were programmed to adapt to new things rapidly, so the mourning stage did not last very long. I guess you could call it a survival instinct. Anyway, just after two days of the decision, our house immediately began to be packed up. Everything we owned had to be stuffed into the smallest amount of boxes possible. • 78. Millions Danny Hales Essay In the film, Millions, directed by Danny Boyle, a compelling character who intrigues me is the antagonistic Anthony Cunningham. I find his complex character interesting as he is still grieving for his mother's tragic death whilst managing to use her death to his advantage. Also, his way of thinking and dealing with the money is very different to from many other kids his age would do. His way of thinking has a powerful awareness of right from wrong – but throughout the movie he gets it jumbled up a bit... The film is set during the changing of all European currencies to a single currency – the Euro. Due to this, we can see that money is going to take a significant role in the film. Anthony (along with his family) are dealing with the repercussion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anthony is still struggling within the stages of grief and is trying hard to mask it. The director shows this in the opening scene, the two boys delightedly lay down next to each other after riding their bikes. As the two brothers lay down next to each other, we can see that Damian is wearing a blue shirt which can often be interpreted as sorrow or calmness. While Anthony is wearing a red jacket which is normally deciphered as hatred or anger. However under Anthony's red jacket, we can see that he is also wearing a blue shirt. The director's purpose of doing this is to foreshadow that Anthony is using ignorance to mask his misery and woe. The director shows us that Anthony disguises his sadness with annoyance towards the end of the movie when Damian brings Dorothy into their house. This is shown because we can see Anthony thinking that she is there to replace their mother. Due to this, we see him whispering a angry hushed tone "Is that what you want? Her in there with him, instead of Mum?". Personally, this is quite understandable because I know that it is extremely difficult to be going through the stages of grief after someone–who–is–close–to–you's death. This could link back to my first paragraph – Anthony wants to keep a close relationship with Damian by trying to set a good example by moving on.
