Forgiveness by the World English Dictionary is the "act of forgiving; state of being forgiven,
disposition or willingness to forgive". But what does it really mean? That is my question. Is being
able to forgive and not forget the same thing? In my life, I have found that true forgiveness is a
quality that separates us from other species and it is what makes us human. In order to truly and
sincerely forgive, one must, aside from saying they have forgiven the person, let it go and not hold
a grudge against that person. Just, as Mahatma Gandhi once said: "The weak can never forgive.
Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong." I believe that holds to be true.
Only a humble human being can attain the quality to completely...show more content...
I found that I forgave easier or not depending on severity of the circumstance and on the person
whom I was forgiving or not. I believe it is easier to forgive an enemy than a person you love
because a loved one are not supposed to hurt you in any way. I realized that those who I care more
cause the most pain.
When I was a child, every time I saw my mother crying and hurting from all the abuse induced by
her husband, the person who was supposed to protect her, I ask God, why? I never received an
answer. As the abuse continued and life went on, I was never able to forgive him for thesuffering
that he caused not only to my mother, but to me as well. I was carrying all the miseries from my
childhood and taking out on the people who love and care for me. There was no closure for the
pain and suffering. The only person that I saw comfort and security from was my father, a man
who never allowed me to pity myself or blame myself for other's actions. He was always there for
me until my eighteenth birthday when he decided that I was "old enough to be on my own;" it was
his own way to attempt making me independent. Everything became blurry at that point in my life.
There was nowhere to turn except the only person who had the opportunities in her eighty years to
master the meaning of true forgiveness: my grandmother, Consuelo, which her name literally means
to console. Living with her and listening to her life stories allowed me to comprehend

Essay on What is Happiness?
What is happiness? People have agonized over this question for centuries. Let me start this essay by
answering a somewhat easier question: what isn't happiness? Happiness is NOT feeling good all the
time. Happiness is a combination of human emotions and states of mind. Exploring this state of
being has consumed the philosophical minds of the ages and will continue to do so for ages to come.
In an unofficial poll of students at State University, I found that of the fifty–eight students and one
professor, males and females of several ethnic backgrounds and age groups, that I asked the question
"What is happiness to you?", all of them had very different physical, intellectual, or emotional
motivator for their happiness. Only the...show more content...
But these supplementary explanations do not affect the theory of life on which this theory of
morality is grounded namely, that pleasure, and freedom from pain, are the only things desirable as
ends; and that all desirable things (which are as numerous in the utilitarian as in any other scheme)
are desirable either for the pleasure inherent in themselves, or as means to the promotion of pleasure
and the prevention of pain. (Pojman 917)
Mill seems to think that happiness comes from the desire to be completely pain–free.
He says that happiness comes from selfishly fulfilled desires. The desire to attain only pleasure is
ludicrous; for a person to achieve a completely pain–free existence is impossible. To gain complete
happiness would leave them with no motivation to achieve anything else. Human nature is such that
if a person achieved pure happiness, that person would then become dissatisfied with that happiness,
causing them to, once again, be unhappy. A person will always experience something contrary to
pleasure, leaving them with some type of pain.
In my opinion, people seem to be happy for many different reasons at different times in their lives. I

Friendship, defined from Webster's Dictionary as, the state of being friends, or a friendly feeling.
Friends, on the other hand, are defined as people whom one knows well and is fond of.
The second definition states a friend as an ally, supporter, or sympathizer. My personal definition of
what friendship is, is a feeling or emotion expressed in such a way that another feels wanted and
important, a relationship between a person or persons where everyone has some companion to talk
to when their in need of one. I would define friends as people whom you can have several types of
relations with and feel several emotions for that person. Someone that one might go to in time of
need....show more content...
Most of the time that results because they are usually the ones you talk to the most so eventually
the two become close and they find themselves expressing their feelings to each other without
even realizing that they are becoming closer every time. But, if you aren't married then you still
probably go to your best friends and tell them everything going on between you and your lover.
Parents and children I think fit together on this subject. Parents and children create a great
friendship over time. Throughout a child's life and especially through their adolescent years,
children tend to pull away from their parents making it hard to actually establish a friendship with
them. Teenagers experience knew things that they don't want their parents to know about or they
just don't feel comfortable talking to their parents about it. Parents are the same way. There are
some things that children don't need know about. However, over the years when a child's parents
become unable to take care of themselves, then the children take of them and all their bills and
other things. Children learn to appreciate their parents in life and learn that they can turn to their
parents a lot for support. The same goes for being close to their siblings. After all the meanness
gets out of them, they realize the greatest friends end up being the people they used to beat up on
as kids. Friendship is a crazy thing. Some people you consider closer

DEFINITION ESSAY
Definition Essay
Definition: The aim in this essay is to define, explain, and exemplify something. Generally, in
definition essays, we try to make the terms that we use understandable for the reader. Our
understanding of a term may be different from the general concept, or we may be focusing on a
specific aspect. Giving an exact definition would enable the reader to follow the ideas and arguments
in your essay. Organization: Definition of a term is generally given in the introduction. The
development of the essay is dedicated to the explanation of the term. There are many ways to
explain a term. It is also possible to employ more than one of these methods of development. Below
are some of the types of organization that...show more content...
Love is not another seasoning to bottle and stick on the dust–lined shelves of the spice rack. Love is
not to be confused with adhesive tape. Instead, love is a great counterpart to late, evening thunder
storms on hot July nights. Love goes well with cold pizza on picnic blankets. Love is cold, wet sand
between bare toes. Love is a capitalistic sell–all for novels, Top–40 pop songs, summer movies, and
greeting cards.

DEFINITION ESSAY In its simplest terms, love is a four–letter word. Much like other words of
similar letter make up, when expressed it can evoke laughter, pleasure, pain, anger, and virtually any
wave of reaction. Love also can be confused with feelings of indigestion and gas. Houses have been
built, burned, and banished because of love. http://leo.stcloudstate.edu/acadwrite/definition.html

What Is Ambition Essay
"A dream without ambition is like a car without gas...you're not going anywhere," (Hampton).
Ambition is something many people have however many people don't know what the true meaning
of ambition is. The dictionary definition of ambition is, "a strong desire to do or to achieve
something, typically requiring determination and hard work" (Dictionary.com). Ambition has made
great leaders since the dawn of time, like Cleopatra, and any great leader adopts, or already
possesses, six habits that are found in the minds and hearts of two of the greatest leaders of the 20th
century, Nelson Mandela and Gandhi, but ambition can be seen as a two–faced word causing it to
have a negative light as well. Humans adapted to change for centuries. Humans adapted to weather,
to wars, and to other humans. Every creature, not just humans, have had to develop over time to new
habits and traits to help them survive. Ambition is one trait that has been around for centuries buried
inside the minds and hearts of humans. The...show more content...
Stacy Schiff stated, "She lost her kingdom once; regained it; nearly lost it again; amassed an
empire; lost it all" (Schiff). The statement explains that Cleopatra had enough ambition to keep
fighting for her kingdom. The definition of ambition begins to give off the idea that Cleopatra had
ambition. Ambition gave her the strength and determination to fight for her kingdom, even when
she lost it. Cleopatra lost her kingdom at least twice, almost three times, however, she battled
through it and kept getting her kingdom back. Cleopatra's ambition made her a great ancient leader
and female leader, "Even at a time when female rulers were no rarity, Cleopatra stood out, the sole
woman of her world to rule alone" (Schiff). Ambition has made Cleopatra stand out as a great and
ambitious leader. She helped create the six habits that create great

Definition Essay The origin of the word myth seems to be a myth in itself. Myths have generally
originated from a Greek history that used an oral tradition to explain events that occurred before the
written word. Often supernatural beings or fictitious characters were used to explain popular ideas
concerning phenomena's of nature or the history of people. The myths that were carried on from
generation to generation were often very imaginative in an attempt to spark the interest of young
listeners. These would be told at social gatherings. The main purpose of a myth was to relay
historical information among groups. Early myths often dealt with the origin of man, customs,
religious rights, incidents involving the lives of gods,...show more content...
A modern day perception of the Old Testament suggests that, "the mythic elements in the Bible
cannot be accepted by people living in a scientific age and therefore make incomprehensible or
unacceptable the true message to which they are attached in the Bible" (OED p.177). The definition
of the word myth can best be found in a myth itself. "The Creation of Man by Prometheus" is an
excellent example of a myth containing gods or superhuman characteristics, a lesson to be learned,
and teachings or beliefs of the time period. This myth explains the creation of man in the minds of
Greeks through super human characters such as the gods. How was man created in the minds of the
Greeks? Prometheus used materials from nature (mud) to create a form similar to that of the gods,
which can be seen today as the modern symbol of man. Another Greek goddess, Athena, then blew
life into the sculpture. Man was now created. Prometheus then taught man how to survive and also
taught them how to make fire. Zeus, the king of all gods and goddesses, was not happy with him
giving man the gift of fire and punished Prometheus for the rest of his life. The Greeks in an oral
tradition to explain this phenomenon, known as the origin of man (Hunt) then used this story. Many
cultures, for example, have a different myth to explain the origin of man. Native Indian myths
suggest that the joining of sprits created man.
The sprits also taught man how to survive. This myth is similar to

What is Love? Essay
Love, Love, Love. We all think about it, dream about it, sing about it, and even lose sleep
worrying about it, but why? Love is such a small word paired with a vital meaning. It's universal,
easy to spell, difficult to define, but impossible to live without. When we don't have it, we search
for it, when we find it, we don't know what to do with it, when we have it, we fear losing it. Love is
the constant source of happiness and sorrow. I am young and I haven't a clue as to what love is, let
alone what falling in love is. However, I have my ideas of what love is like. I have never witnessed
the beauty of people falling in love, or the severity of those falling out of love, so what is love?
Love in general could be frightening. Some...show more content...
I think falling in love with someone happens when you least expect it to, when you're too busy
focusing on other aspects of your life. This is where fate comes into play. That specific person
was led to you for some unknown reason. Out of the blues, it's like your knight in shining amour
that you have longed to be with finally found his/her way to you. There are people in this world
that think they may never fall in love again. You fall at times, but you get back up. You will love
again, and you will also trust again. You have to simply let things get themselves done, that's when
you know it's meant to be, because destiny took its course, and while you were too busy doing
something else, the love of your life came along.
Love dates way back to when the world began. In reality, we really have no idea what love truly is.
Raising questions like, is it even real? We watch love movies, read romance novels, but that's the
sugar–coated, sweet and simple version of it. Meeting someone, fall in love, get married, have
kids, spend the rest of your lives together. What about the suffering we have to endure when falling
in love? Risking everything for that one person? And even when we feel we've reached the end of
the road, this person has the power to leave us at any given moment. We put ourselves out there with
the chance they can break us apart.
Love, as it is with everything,

What is History? Essay
What is History?
The definition of history, is a question which has sparked international debate for centuries between
the writers, readers, and the makers of history. In the words of acclaimed historian Edward Gibbon,
"History is indeed little more than the register of the crimes, follies and misfortunes of mankind." A
more romantic view on the subject was taken by Cicero. He said, "History is the witness that testifies
the passing of time. It illuminates reality, vitalizes memory, provides guidance of daily life and
brings us tidings of antiquity" History, described in the simplest of terms, can be seen as a record of
events that have occurred in the past that the historian has taken the trouble to document. It is the

There is of course the argument, that even primary source evidence can be somewhat tainted.
Propaganda by rulers and governments has been used a major tool to promote popularity amongst
their people. For example, in Russia at the turn of the century writers who wrote critically about the
internal affairs of government were censured, persecuted and sometimes imprisoned or executed. In
1537 to 1574, The massive censorship exercised by Cosimo I de' Medici of Florence precipitated a
decline in historiography in Florence. The extreme wealth and power of the Medici family
extended even further into the art of the Renaissance period and their depiction was prevalent as
saintly figures in the works of these artists. Fear of persecution could drive an otherwise
intelligent scholar to be biased and one sided. Even today bias and prejudice is apparent in the
accounting of daily events in newspapers and television. The events revealed to the public are
those which the editor or director chooses to be relevant. The Daily Telegraph for example, is
widely perceived as being supportive of the Tories. In the world of films we never read 'this is a
true story' in the credits but that it is 'based on a true story'. The director, has used artistic licence to
inject either a romantic or

  • 6. Definition Essay Definition Essay The origin of the word myth seems to be a myth in itself. Myths have generally originated from a Greek history that used an oral tradition to explain events that occurred before the written word. Often supernatural beings or fictitious characters were used to explain popular ideas concerning phenomena's of nature or the history of people. The myths that were carried on from generation to generation were often very imaginative in an attempt to spark the interest of young listeners. These would be told at social gatherings. The main purpose of a myth was to relay historical information among groups. Early myths often dealt with the origin of man, customs, religious rights, incidents involving the lives of gods,...show more content... A modern day perception of the Old Testament suggests that, "the mythic elements in the Bible cannot be accepted by people living in a scientific age and therefore make incomprehensible or unacceptable the true message to which they are attached in the Bible" (OED p.177). The definition of the word myth can best be found in a myth itself. "The Creation of Man by Prometheus" is an excellent example of a myth containing gods or superhuman characteristics, a lesson to be learned, and teachings or beliefs of the time period. This myth explains the creation of man in the minds of Greeks through super human characters such as the gods. How was man created in the minds of the Greeks? Prometheus used materials from nature (mud) to create a form similar to that of the gods, which can be seen today as the modern symbol of man. Another Greek goddess, Athena, then blew life into the sculpture. Man was now created. Prometheus then taught man how to survive and also taught them how to make fire. Zeus, the king of all gods and goddesses, was not happy with him giving man the gift of fire and punished Prometheus for the rest of his life. The Greeks in an oral tradition to explain this phenomenon, known as the origin of man (Hunt) then used this story. Many cultures, for example, have a different myth to explain the origin of man. Native Indian myths suggest that the joining of sprits created man. The sprits also taught man how to survive. This myth is similar to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. What is Love? Essay Love, Love, Love. We all think about it, dream about it, sing about it, and even lose sleep worrying about it, but why? Love is such a small word paired with a vital meaning. It's universal, easy to spell, difficult to define, but impossible to live without. When we don't have it, we search for it, when we find it, we don't know what to do with it, when we have it, we fear losing it. Love is the constant source of happiness and sorrow. I am young and I haven't a clue as to what love is, let alone what falling in love is. However, I have my ideas of what love is like. I have never witnessed the beauty of people falling in love, or the severity of those falling out of love, so what is love? Love in general could be frightening. Some...show more content... I think falling in love with someone happens when you least expect it to, when you're too busy focusing on other aspects of your life. This is where fate comes into play. That specific person was led to you for some unknown reason. Out of the blues, it's like your knight in shining amour that you have longed to be with finally found his/her way to you. There are people in this world that think they may never fall in love again. You fall at times, but you get back up. You will love again, and you will also trust again. You have to simply let things get themselves done, that's when you know it's meant to be, because destiny took its course, and while you were too busy doing something else, the love of your life came along. Love dates way back to when the world began. In reality, we really have no idea what love truly is. Raising questions like, is it even real? We watch love movies, read romance novels, but that's the sugar–coated, sweet and simple version of it. Meeting someone, fall in love, get married, have kids, spend the rest of your lives together. What about the suffering we have to endure when falling in love? Risking everything for that one person? And even when we feel we've reached the end of the road, this person has the power to leave us at any given moment. We put ourselves out there with the chance they can break us apart. • 8. What is History? Essay What is History? The definition of history, is a question which has sparked international debate for centuries between the writers, readers, and the makers of history. In the words of acclaimed historian Edward Gibbon, "History is indeed little more than the register of the crimes, follies and misfortunes of mankind." A more romantic view on the subject was taken by Cicero. He said, "History is the witness that testifies the passing of time. It illuminates reality, vitalizes memory, provides guidance of daily life and brings us tidings of antiquity" History, described in the simplest of terms, can be seen as a record of events that have occurred in the past that the historian has taken the trouble to document. It is the ...show more content... There is of course the argument, that even primary source evidence can be somewhat tainted. Propaganda by rulers and governments has been used a major tool to promote popularity amongst their people. For example, in Russia at the turn of the century writers who wrote critically about the internal affairs of government were censured, persecuted and sometimes imprisoned or executed. In 1537 to 1574, The massive censorship exercised by Cosimo I de' Medici of Florence precipitated a decline in historiography in Florence. The extreme wealth and power of the Medici family extended even further into the art of the Renaissance period and their depiction was prevalent as saintly figures in the works of these artists. Fear of persecution could drive an otherwise intelligent scholar to be biased and one sided. Even today bias and prejudice is apparent in the accounting of daily events in newspapers and television. The events revealed to the public are those which the editor or director chooses to be relevant. The Daily Telegraph for example, is widely perceived as being supportive of the Tories. In the world of films we never read 'this is a true story' in the credits but that it is 'based on a true story'.
