- Good morning . I want to speak about the two main projects of my centre, but first a little information about our Theatre School.
- The theatre School is a cultural institution with a long history. It started in 1913 /nineteen thirteen/ The school trains students in the following specialisations: acting, directing and playwrighting (dramaturgy), set design , dance pedagogy, choreography and dance performance techniques. The Centre of documentation and Museum of performing Arts , called MAE, contains the most important collection in Spain concerning the performing arts We have 70.000 h istorical books ( including 4,000 manuscripts) 30,000 others books More than 16,000 sketches and costume designs , and 600 scale models, We also have an interesting Catalan puppet collection consisting of 437 puppets. Our collection focuses on puppets from the first decades of the twentieth (XX) century We also have: 600 Costumes; 5000 Posters; 200.000 Photographies with actors, dancers and performances 100.000 Theatre Programmes / a hundred thousand/ At present , we haven’t got a place to exhibit our collection. And we will probably need quite a long time before opening a new museum
- Now some images of documents from our collection On the left you see an image of an original manuscript written by Calderon de la Barca entitled “Agua mansa” . It was written in 1657 And two images of two books from our historical collection

- As I said before that we have 5,000 posters and more than 100,000 theatre programmes We have Theatre programmes from 1900 ( nineteen hundred) onwards and At present we keep up a data base with information on all performing arts productions in regular theatres in Catalonia
- The first project that I want to talk about is the Digital Museum We want To have all information and digital images of our museum collection published on internet by the end of 2008 ( two thousand eight) At the end of 2006 we bought a new software: ContentDM W e bougth ContentDM because / Why did we buy ContenDM? It is very e asy to implement Not expensive ( neither the price nor its annual maintenance) Other catalan institutions have already bought this software. At this moment in Catalonia the most important project is Catalonia digital Memory , of Catalan National Library and Catalan Universities Libraries Consortium http://mdc.cbuc.cat/cdm4/search.php Not new, a lot of projects on Internet Is the result of years of development and collaboration with archivists. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More information about Content DM have 3 levels . Level 1 UNTIL 10.000 REGISTERS ama 1900 Level 2 until 50,000 registers AMA 3900 Level 3 unlimited Ama 8.900 For 50.000 registers/items: 27.000 ( twenty seven thousand) :
- What was our starting point ? We had important but old data bases for every type of objects in Microsoft Access At the end of 2006 we had: data bases with description and digital images of the puppet collection and set design collection Data bases with description but without images of our Poster and Costume collections We had other data bases of the other collections with little information The PR ESENT SITUATION Now The software has been adapted. We have created some collections in ContentDM We have moved the puppet collection and a part of design collection We have created a collection of the best manuscripts We are moving the rest of set design and poster collection in July. We have digitalised the poster collection and we are preparing the posters data base to be moved We would like to present our digital collection in October the 15th
- What is still to be done? Before the end of the year we would like to start creating costumes, pictures and photography collections And now I’m going to show you how our project works
- The second main project is a Digital repository of Catalan performing arts productions I know that Dries Moreels of the Vlamms Theatre Institute , presented a very similar project in Sevilla in 2005 For that reason I’m not going to talk about the technical specifications because they are similar . We read his presentation in detail and we have learned a lot from it. Our STARTING POINT is 2,500 videos of students projects of Theatre School 6,00 videos of Catalonia National theatre. Videos of “Mercat de les Flors” centre of Dance And it’s easy to imagine that we have various formats: DVC pro, UMATIC, Betamax, MiniDVD, VHS The project desgin is finished , we have the necessary money to implemented the system and we hope to begin in October or Nnovembre 2007.
