Researchers in the US successfully induced temporary night vision in a human subject by injecting an eye drop solution containing chlorin e6 directly into the eyes. The test subject was able to see shapes up to 10 meters away initially and up to 50 meters away over time, correctly identifying moving objects and symbols against different backgrounds in total darkness. A control group without the eye drops only got objects correct a third of the time compared to the test subject's 100% success rate. The researchers plan to conduct more rigorous testing of the night vision inducing eye drops.
