Definition:  A suffix meaning paralysis or strokeThis suffix serves an important role when discussing the Nervous System.Conditions such as the ones discussed on the following slid are usually do to damage or disease that effects the spinal cord.-plegia
Hemiplegia-  Paralysis on only one side of the bodyParaplegia-  Paralysis of the lower portion of the body and both legsQuadriplegia-  Paralysis of both arms and both legs-plegia
Definition:  A suffix used when describing speech disorders.Speech disorders are usually a result of damage to one or many parts of the brain.  Speech disorders can also be a result of a brain tumor or some sort of infection in the brain, such as dementia.  -phasia
Aphasia-  This is a disorder that is defined by lack of speech.  People with aphasia have problems finding the “correct” word in certain situations.  The person’s intelligence is not impaired.Dysphasia-  This is the partial or complete inability to communicate as of result of a brain injury.  According to our book, the definition is “difficult speech”.-phasia
