This document provides guidelines for neonatal transport from a less equipped institution to a more equipped one for improved health care. It outlines indications for transport such as low birth weight or complications. Proper preparation is needed including incubators, ventilators, IVs and emergency drugs. The neonate must be stabilized before transport regarding temperature, breathing, circulation and more. During transport, the neonate's warmth, feeding and breathing must be monitored by an accompanying health care provider while maintaining communication with the receiving institution.
