Using intelligent tutoring systems, virtual laboratories, simulations, and frequent opportunities for assessment and feedback, The Open Learning Initiative (OLI) builds open learning environments that support continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
One of the most powerful features of web-based learning environments is that we can embed assessment into, virtually all, instructional activities. As students interact with OLI environments, we collect real-time data of student work. We use this data to create four positive feedback loops:
โข feedback to students
โข feedback to instructors
โข feedback to course designers
โข feedback to learning science researchers
In this JumpStart Session, we demonstrate how OLI uses the web to deliver online instruction that instantiates course designs based on research and how the learning environments, in turn, support ongoing research. We will discuss the Community College Open Learning Initiative (CC-OLI) and how faculty and colleges across the country can participate in CC-OLI and the connection between CC-OLI and Washington Stateโs Open Course Library project.

The Claremont Consortium administers a biennial survey to the approximately 5,000 Sakai-using undergraduate and graduate students in its member institutions [Claremont McKenna College, Claremont Graduate University, Harvey Mudd College, Keck Graduate Institute, Pitzer College, Pomona College and Scripps College]. The presentation summarizes findings from the 2008 and 2010 surveys. We identify changes in student use of Sakai; student assessment of the benefits and drawbacks of courses that use Sakai; which tools students find most useful in their courses as well as tool usage patterns, and student suggestions to improve Sakai and the ways that it is used in their classes.
Presented at the 2010 Sakai Conference (Denver, CO) on June 17, 2010. (Presentation slightly updated for online viewing.)
This presentation is one to be used with the introduction of an innovation plan focused on creating a blended learning environment in my elementary school.
Content Wizard: Concept-Based Recommender System for Instructors of Programmi...Hung Chau
ย
Authoring an adaptive educational system is a complex process which involves allocating a large range of educational contents within a fixed sequence of units. Given this scenario, in this paper we describe Content Wizard, a concept-based recommender system for recommending learning materials that meet the instructorโs pedagogical goals during the creation of an online programming course. Here, the instructors are asked to provide a set of code examples that jointly reflect the learning goals associated with each course unit. The Wizard is built on the top of our course authoring tool, and it helps to decrease the time instructors spend on the task and to maintain the coherence of the sequential structure of the course. It also provides instructors with additional information to identify the contents that might be not appropriate for the unit they are creating. We conducted an off-line study with data collected from an introductory Java course previously taught at the University of Pittsburgh, in order to evaluate the practicalness and effectiveness of the system. We found that the proposed recommendationโs performance is relatively close to the teacher expectation in creating a computer-based adaptive course.

A 5E Lesson Plan to Promote the Use of Reflective-Reflexive Practices by In...Brehaniea Wight

Link for full lesson plan: https://drive.google.com/file/d/17adoZAcv0x5clfB0IbgXc328d08awnJ3/view?usp=sharing
In todayโs slideshare, we look at the use of digital technology to enhance reflective-reflexive practice in a 5E lesson plan. It is in response to a teacherโs sudden and drastic shift from the traditional classroom to a strictly online learning environment. While learning takes place in the synchronous environment through live conferences, it is supported using an asynchronous learning management platform.
The 5e model of instruction will empower the students to take responsibility for their own learning. The teacher will guide the students through the five phases - engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate. Students will engage in reflective-reflexive practice in each phase using online digital tools.. The reflective-reflexive process will incorporate works from reflective gurus such as
Kolb - learning through experience
Gibbs - emotional feelings, action plan
Brookfield - four critical lenses - self, peers, experts and literature
Schรถnโs reflective models - reflection before, during and after
SYNERGY Induction to Pedagogy Programme - Evaluation of the Learning Resource...Sarah Land
ย
The SYNERGY Induction to Pedagogy programme was created by project partners, with the aim of helping micro-enterprise owners using the SYNERGY Exchange platform, to engage in peer-to-peer learning opportunities. This training programme comprises six modules and is delivered over 5 hours through a series of video lectures and PowerPoints which have been written, developed and recorded by project partners.
These modules provide micro-enterprise owners with a sound understanding of the basics in relation to e-didactics, quality criteria of peer-learning, evaluation of online learning resources and online learning environments, producing quality learning resources for peers and other knowledge that has helped them to become competent and confident online peer-educators. This module is entitled โEvaluation of the Learning Resourcesโ and provides content which provides an introduction to the basic concepts of quality in peer education, how to assess the quality of learning materials produced by peer educators and also an introduction to some common European standards and toolkits for evaluating online education.
These slides are available in English, Finnish, German, Greek, Italian and Romanian.
