Last year, Nebraska Tax-Aide introduced a new program to prepare tax returns virtually for taxpayers who didn’t have a traditional in-person tax preparation site nearby. Some taxpayers were challenged by the technology required to prepare returns virtually. Nebraska Tax-Aide would like to partner with Nebraska libraries to bridge this technology gap. Can you help us? 2.  AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides in-person and virtual tax
assistance to anyone, free of charge, with a focus on taxpayers
who are over 50 and have low to moderate income.
 For tax year 2021, Nebraska Tax-Aide completed more than
3,800 Tax Returns.

4. 1. Taxpayer (TP) schedules virtual appointment.
2. Virtual volunteer sends email to TP with initial documents and instructions.
3. TP fills out documents and returns them to volunteer.
4. Volunteer schedules a setup session via Google Meet with TP.
5. TP scans documents and send to Tax Slayer account.
6. Volunteer prepares return.
7. Volunteer contacts TP with any questions.
8. Return is quality reviewed.
9. Google Meet with TP to sign return.
10. Return filed and TP can print return.

7. A participating Library must have:
o A computer for public use.
o A working camera on the computer,
o A working microphone on the computer.
o Access to the internet.
o Ability to scan documents.
o A private room or other method to provide privacy for
the taxpayer.
In every situation, taxpayer should be instructed to log off the
browser and make sure no personal/confidential information is
left on a public computer.

8. I want to get an email address so I can use AARP Tax-Aide to do my taxes.
 Assist the taxpayer to obtain an email account.
o Gmail is the preferred email tool because the taxpayer will need a Google
account for later steps in the tax preparation process.
o Make sure the taxpayer writes down the email address and preserves the
password for the email account.
o Make sure the taxpayer saves the Google account login information.
 If possible, help the taxpayer access www.aarpfoundation.org/taxaide to
schedule a virtual tax preparation appointment.
