POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Electrical Engineer is the head of the Electrical Staff and responsible for the Electrical
Plant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• The Chief Electrical Engineer is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the
electrical plant and associated electrical systems.
• The Chief Electrical Engineer shall ensure that the electrical plant and associated
systems are properly operated and maintained in accordance with the applicable
regulations and company standards. The installation must at all times be in compliance
with the regulations.
• Supervise and coordinate the repair and maintenance performed by the electrical staff.
• Communicate efficiently with the other departments on the ship to ensure the electrical
systems are efficiently maintained and are available to ensure passenger comfort.
• Regular reporting to update Chief Engineer of any issues with the electrical system.
• Approve the requisitions from any department for the purchase of electrical equipment
to be used onboard to ensure that it meets the electrical standards and codes.
• Be present in the Engine Control Room during maneuver, drills and emergencies unless
relieved by the Automation Engineer.
• Assist the Chief Engineer with budgeting of the electrical department.
• Conduct the Performance Evaluation of the Electrical Staff.
• The Chief Electrical Engineer is responsible for the AMOS System for the Electrical

department and shall keep a close cooperation with the Engine Storekeeper and the
Chief Engineer. He/She is responsible for the Electrical Stores, parts and supplies,
Inventory Control and Purchase Requisitions. He/She shall work closely with the Chief
Engineer to ensure that the expenditures are within the limits of the approved budget.
• The Chief Electrical Engineer must be familiar with the safety routines and ensure that
the necessary safeguards are in place before any maintenance/repair work commences.
• Must be familiar with the Class Rules and industry standards and the implications of
any modifications to electrical systems.
• Must be familiar with the Safety Management System including his/her responsibilities
in the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan and Station Bill.
• Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SEMS,
and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.
DIMENSIONS
• Must be able to efficiently supervise the proper maintenance of the electrical plant.
• Must be able to lead by example and provide quality management, safety and electrical
engineering skills for a large electrical plant.
• Must be able to perform in a proficient manner the supervision of the electrical staff.
• Must be able to efficiently organize and supervise all areas of responsibility outlined in
the Essential Functions.
• Must appropriately monitor the use and wear of all necessary parts for the electrical
plant to ensure it's availability at all times. Must order replacements and coordinate
adjustments as needed while constantly monitoring budgetary guidelines.

• Accountable for the supervision of the electrical staff. Ensure maximum efficiency in the
performance of the electrical staff by suggesting methods to improve their efficiency,
productivity and performance.
• Evaluates the performance of the electrical staff periodically and recommends
appropriate action such as promotions, disciplinary actions or commendations.
• Initiates and maintains effective employee relations at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS
• 5-6 years relevant experience
• Fluent in English (written and verbal)

hands and arms; talk or hear and taste or smell.
• All vessel positions require repetitive motion of bending, climbing, going up and down
stairs and lifting more than 25 pounds. This job requires specific vision, depth
perception and ability to adjust focus.
• All team members must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving
procedures and drills. All vessel positions require full use and range of arms and legs as
well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities to receive and give instructions in the
event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
