The document defines and describes several natural hazards and disasters:
Flood is the overflow of water that submerges land not normally covered. Earthquakes are sudden releases of energy in the Earth's crust that create seismic waves. Tornadoes are rotating columns of air in contact with the ground and clouds. Volcanic eruptions violently eject lava, ash, and rock onto the surface. Typhoons are tropical cyclones common to the Northwest Pacific. Avalanches are large, fast-moving masses of snow that can bury people and damage structures. Tsunamis are long ocean waves caused by earthquakes or asteroids that come ashore. Drought is a prolonged period without rainfall causing moisture levels to drop. Hunger
In this episode, the following aspects of cyclone are discussed:
1. Origin of Cyclones
2. Types of cyclonic storms and their physical characteristics
3. Distribution of Cyclones
4. Environmental impacts of cyclones
5. Cyclone disaster Management.
A2 CAMBRIDGE GEOGRAPHY: HAZARDOUS ENVIRONMENTS - HAZARDS RESULTING FROM ATMOSPHERIC DISTURBANCES. It contain case studies: Hurricane Katrina 2005, Cloud Seeding in New Zealand 1950-1970.

This ppt explained what is disaster and what are the common types of disaster. Then it explains the natural disasters like Flood, earthquake, tsunami, drought, landslides, heat & cold waves, thunderstorm etc....
2. Flood is an overflow of an expanse of water that
submerges land. The EU Floods directive defines a
flood as a temporary covering by water of land not
normally covered by water. In the sense of "flowing
water", the word may also be applied to the inflow of
the tide.
3. Earthquake is the result of a sudden release of energy in the
Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. The seismicity or
seismic activity of an area refers to the frequency, type and size
of earthquakes experienced over a period of time.
4. Tornado - is a violent, dangerous, rotating column of
air that is in contact with both the surface of the earth
and a cumulonimbus cloud. Tornadoes come in many
shapes and sizes, but are typically in the form of a
visible condensation funnel, whose narrow end touches
the earth and is often encircled by a cloud of debris and
dust.
5. Volcanic eruption is the troop landing on the earthly
surface of incandescent wreckages, ash, exposure of
lava. Volcanic eruption can last from a few hours to
many years.
6. Fire is the uncontrolled burning out of the special
hearth, which results in financial harm. Reasons of
origin of fires is a careless conduct of people with a fire,
violation of rules of fire safety, natural phenomena
(lightning, drought).
7. Typhoon is a variety of tropical cyclone, which is
typical for north-western part of the Pacific ocean. The
area of activity of typhoons, on which the third part of
incurrence of tropical cyclones is on Earth, is celled
between the coast of East Asia westering, by an
equator on a south and line of change of date on east
8. An avalanche is enormous mass of snow which
breaks away from a slope and rolls downward with high
speed. An avalanche buries people, takes buildings,
damages roads. A hit in an avalanche more frequent all
results in a mortal result.
9. Tsunamis water-wave which inundates a bay) are
waves, long more than 500 mcodes, which appear atsea or in an ocean usually as a result of earthquakes
(falling an asteroid and others like that) and engulf all
layer of water
10. Drought is failing or absence of fallouts during the
protracted period of time at enhanceable temperatures
and decline of humidity of air, as a result the supplies
of moisture disappear in soil.
11. Hunger is the state of man, in which it does not have
the meal for healthy life.
