The music of Argentina is known mostly for the Tango dance music which originated in Buenos Aires in the late 19th century. Folk music called "musica folklorica" also developed in different regions of Argentina and helped inspire a revival in the 1950s. The Tango is a syncopated ballroom dance style in 2/4 or 4/4 time that originated from European immigrant populations in Argentina, Cuba, and Spain. Painting in Argentina was influenced by German Jesuits and indigenous peoples, with Carlos Morel becoming the first influential painter in the 1830s.
