The document discusses several narrative theories and how they relate to the production of a music video:
1. Tzvetan Todorov's theory of narrative structure identifies five stages - equilibrium, disruption, recognition, attempt to repair, reinstatement of equilibrium - which are present in the production through cutting between three character scenarios.
2. The production was influenced by Ken Loach's style of social realism and emphasis on naturalism, using unknown actors and unscripted scenes to achieve truthful portrayals.
3. Vladimir Propp's analysis of folktales identified common character types like heroes, villains, and helpers that appear across stories, and the production portrays its characters as "victims looking
2. Establish Equilibrium Tzvetan Todorov: Tzvetan Todorov suggested that conventional narratives are structured in five stages: . A state of equilibrium are at the outset . A disruption of the equilibrium by some actions . A recognition that there has been a disruption . An attempt to repair the disruption . A reinstatement of the equilibrium All five of these stages are present in our production. We have three different scenarios, its doesn’t follow just one story. We shows this by using cuts, jumping from one characters life to another., showing the different situations of each character.
3. Director Research Ken Loach ; English film director who is known for his naturalism and social realism directing style. Loach strives in every area of film making to emphasize genuine interplay between actors, to the point where some scenes of his films are unscripted. Ken believes that rather than employing method actors, he prefers unknown talent who have had some had some of he actual life experience of the characters they portray. Loach makes great efforts to help the actors express themselves naturally and honestly. He believes that shooting in order, from first scene to last, helps the actors enormously to find a truthful response to their circumstances. Although Ken Loach is a film director and not music video his approach to the production , we still collaborated Loaches approach of film style into the production of our music video. Our actors we told of the general story of the music video and asked to do what ever feels natural for them to do in the characters situation. The situations we tried to establish in our production were all relating to real life and there for wanted to make sure we got a true reflection of how it affects people.
4. Propp studied folk tales and legends from many different countries and noticed that they tend to have a similar trend. This trend being that they seemed to be about the same basic problems and the same basic character types cropped up in most of the folk tales. He focused on the way the characters appeared as types rather than individuals. Some of the types being : -The villain (opposes the hero) -The hero -The donor (helps hero) -The dispatcher (also helps hero) -The false hero (tempts the hero away from quest) - The helper (helps hero) -The princess (who is the reward for hero) - The father (who rewards hero for efforts) -The victim (hero tries to help) The narrative to out production would be that all our characters are victims looking to find a way of releasing themselves, this do this through the notion of dance “ Dance your cares away”.
