Narrative form provides the structure for how a story is told in a film. It involves an ordered series of events connected by cause and effect that moves the plot from an initial equilibrium through disruption, attempts to repair the damage, and finally a new equilibrium. The three-act structure divides most narratives into an introduction where characters and settings are established, a rising action where the central conflict mounts, and a falling action where the conflict is resolved. Characters typically experience changes and are responsible for moving the cause-and-effect chain of events that make up the narrative.

3 parts to a narrative
•introduction (setup)
•rising action (stakes get higher,confrontation)
•falling action (crisis,resolution)
structure:
•set up/ exposition- meeting the characters, establishing the setting,
setting the tone
•rising action- central conflict is introduced and the tension between the
protagonist and the antagonist begins to mount, many events will
happen stakes get higher
•climax- turning point, makes a change and better or worse, protagonist
future
•falling action- major action has happened, this is the aftermath, sorting
out the major conflict resolution.
•denouement/resolution- creation of the new normal, conflict resolved.

•narrative film generally focus on human characteristics and there struggle
•characters are typically responsible for cause and effect in narrative.
flat: minor characters, who do not go through any substantial change
throughout the story or have much substance to them
round: more fully developed characters who may experience a change
during the story
developing characters:
