In addition, you will then have an opportunity to reflect on your own “goodness of fit” as a future educator.
Please be courteous of the teachers you are interviewing. Plan ahead and schedule your interviews early. It can be difficult to secure an interview date with the teacher. Writing or emailing a thank-you note to the teacher you interviewed is good professional practice. Why did you decide to become a teacher? What was your motivation and what attributes do you think are important for a teacher to exhibit to be effective? (Attributes/Motivation) I became a teacher because I enjoy working with kids and seeing them make learning connections. In college I had developed and taught my own preK summer program. Once out of school, I worked at a child development center, teaching preK as well as working with the school age program. I found that I really enjoyed working with school age children. So I began working with Red Cross youth programs as well as Boy and Girl Scouts. I went back to school and completed a Master of Arts in Teaching program. I think a teacher needs to be someone who wants to help children become successful citizens. They need to be able to communicate to both children and adults. A teacher also needs to be someone willing to collaborate with others sharing ideas to help all students succeed. They need to be willing to learn and grow.
· What is your philosophy of education? What is the role of the teacher and the students? (Teaching Philosophy) I believe that every child can learn and should be given the opportunity. The teacher should present the concepts and instruction in a way students can understand. The material should be challenging and should get students excited. I believe that students should be given the opportunity to learn in a variety of ways. Students need to come to school ready to learn. It is very frustrating to work with students who refuse to try.

Education has always been a passion of mine even when I was younger I always was trying to explain or solve something for someone. When I first thought about my future and what I was wanting to become I thought that I would stay in the special education department and work as a teacher in a classroom with moderate to severe behaviors. But as I started researching and dreaming about what I am really passionate about I started to realize that I would like to be someone who can help make the changes for education. So when thinking about the position I would like to have in education that I am very passionate about it would be principal or dean at a school.
When looking at an organization to work for I am looking into non-profit, public, private, and online places to work for. When thinking about my career goals and why they are a good fit for me I think about my character and personality but most important I think about why I want to do the job in the first place, which is because I want to make a difference in the world of education whether it be making a community safer for youth or being someone who helps thrive a school. Whether I am working in the community or at a school making sure that the students or youth makes positive choices and expanded their knowledge is why I am interested in this career path.

A good teacher listens to the concerns and ideas that the students have and then helps them understand the question or answer. Critical thinking and being creative is a positive thing and students should never be afraid of exploring their imagination. “Education is wrapped up with who we are as learners and facilitators of learning – and how we are experienced by learners.” (Smith, 2015) Education is when knowledge that can be learned is gained and then that knowledge that is gained can be used to either enhance skills or to teach about skills. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
