Conventions
• My genre electronic Ambient is a niche genre and there are not loads
of videos out there to look at, as most of the videos which are made
for these songs are more like short films telling a story with a morale,
for example Sigur Ros with Ekki Mukk which tells the story of death
but from a different perspective. The shots used in this genre are very
fluent and it feels like the video flows and you don’t realise the
editing. Simple transition's usually fade or just a simple cut are used
to move from each shot. Glide cam or wide angle shots are used to
establish the area but with sometimes a heavy use of focus switching
to move between two subjects or just to create a simple effect.
• Quite often videos make no sense but are great as a wide range of
shots are used. These are more cinematography style videos.
• The colours used in these videos are quite dull and not vibrant as it
has to match the feel of the song which is quite calming and relaxing
and this needs to be portrayed in the video. Sometimes Black and
white is used to creative a whole new feel to the video either
representing a key element showing jeux position or just for the look.
A variety of high and low angle shots are used to show emotions or
even dominance depending on the narrative of the story. Special
effects are not used much in this genre type only maybe motion
tracking, colour correction and lens flares are used to add more
depth to the video.
Age range
• The age range of this genre is around 12 to 80 as its an instrumental
song and people can relate to it of all ages. Its also aimed at both
male and female. Plus it can be used for many different video
platforms from documentary's , short films, relaxing or montages.
This allows me to use a wide variety of shots and can lead me in
many directions.
