A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. - 2. HORROR – KEY CONVENTIONS • Sound • Technical Codes • Iconography • Narratives • Character Types • Setting/ locations

SOUND • The sound is key in a horror film, because without it the film would not have the same atmosphere and it wouldn’t create any suspense. • There are two types of sound that are used in a horror film: • Diegetic – This is often exaggerated sounds/ music to create suspense within the film. For example, Footsteps, moving objects, they are normally always very loud. • Non – Diegetic – The sounds or music is normally made louder or faster to make the audience more scared. For example. Musical scores.
- 4. TECHNICAL CODES • The main propose of a good horror film is to place fear into the audience. This is achieved through camera shots, with the camera shots with the camera from a high or low camera angle to connote anxiety, fear and distress of the character. Point of view shots are often used in order to allow the audience to see the world from the monsters eyes or to be placed in the same situation as the victim. Horror films cleverly use depth of filed to indicate to the reader when the victim is in danger because the monster is creeping up on them. This depth of film imposes fear into the audience. Hand held shots can be used to create tension and build suspense for a given time. Editing can be used to create tension. Jump cuts are especially used to create the tension and fear.
- 5. TITLE SEQUENCES • The title sequence for scream (1996) is quite short and only lasts 0.16 seconds, it does not include anybody's name e.g the director or producer, which is quite unusual. This gets the audience drawn in straight from the beginning. Unlike most of the generic codes of conventions this does not follow it however, I can understand why this concept was chosen. As it is short it stimulates the audience as they don’t have to wait for the credits to disappear resulting in it being more entertaining and gripping for the audience.
