My evaluation
Step by step
I decided to take the photos that I have because I looked at lots of different photographers and I like
the effects that where created through the photos that they took. When I took my photos I tried to
make them similar to the ideas that the photographers gave me but I couldn’t find anything that
matched so I took my own ideas and photographed them. The photos I took depended on the topic
that I liked the most out of the few we got shown. At first I took some practice photos of all the
topics and then that’s how I decided what topic I like the most, the topics I chose where macro and
landscape. I chose these topics because I thought that they would make the best photos and would
draw in the most attention. The equipment I used to create my photos is a Nikon Cannon 1100D and
a Class 10 SD card, also I thought of using a tripod for my landscape photos but I thought that I could
get better pictures whilst holding the camera because I would be able to get better shots of what I
wanted to look at for example low shots, medium shots and high angle shots.
These are some of my final macro photos:
I took the two black and white photos as they are because I was trying out the different effects on
the camera; the effect that I used to capture this photo in black and white is called monochrome. I
didn’t choose to edit any of these photos because I thought that they were fine as they are, I took
two photos in black and white so that my photos weren’t all the same, I also tried the other two
photos in black and white with the black and white ones in colour but I thought that this is the way
that they look best. Also I didn’t choose to edit any of my landscape photos because I think that they
look better when they are natural photos of the environment, also whilst I was playing round with
the effects and trying to get a decent effect I couldn’t get the right colours or detail to make my
photos look better than they are before edi ting.
The other photos I took where landscape and they also came out well, these are my final landscape
photos:
I kept thinking about editing this photo because I think it is too dark and could be brightened up so
that it looks a lot better but I couldn’t decide.
After a long thought I decided to edit this photo
because I managed to get it to the right brightness using
Photoshop and the effect Hue and Saturation this has
helped me create one of my final photos for my
exhibition. Whilst using Photoshop I haven’t learnt any
new skills but I have managed to create a photo that
will look better in my exhibition due to being
experimented with and finally being able to find the
right level of saturation to make the photo a good level
of brightness. I have done this because I have looked at
landscape photographers and all there photos are bright so that they look better and draw in more
attention. I think that I have been successful with this edit because I was trying to make the picture
brighter and I think that I have managed to make this photo brighter but not ruin it as a whole and
make it look as if I haven’t edited it at all.
My evaluation
I think that the strengths of my photos are that they aren’t all in colour but they aren’t all black and
white, I thought that mixing it up would make my exhibition look better because it creates an effect
and shows that I have tried lots of different ways to take my photos however I think that the
weaknesses of my photos are that I haven’t tried to take pictures that include more landscape than
just a field and the sky, but one of my photos contains more environment such as trees and bushes.
I feel that I have done well with my photos for my exhibition because I only had to edit on of my
photos because it was too dark and it didn’t look like a good enough photo for my exhibition, also I
think that I could have tried to get more photos of different areas and not two in the same place.
I think that parts of my exhibition has turned out the way that I planned it to but the landscape
photos haven’t been as good as I hoped they would have been because I haven’t actually tried to get
a good set of landscape photos by leaving the school grounds to try and get more of a detailed set of
photos.
I think that I have improved as a photographer because I have learnt how to take good macro photos
but I don’t think I have improved much because I didn’t really try to get a good set of landscape
photos, I think that the landscape photos have let me down as a whole because they aren’t very
detailed and they are quite boring.
If I had to do this project again I would keep the same macro photos but I would definitely change all
of my landscape photos and I would take my time and go out to different areas to try get some
better landscape photos, also I would take more time to try and edit my photos so that they look
nicer and so that I can get a better effect from them. However I think that if editing made the photos
look worse than it was as a natural photo then I wouldn’t edit it and I would leave It and have a non -
edited photo, sometimes I think that non-edited photos look better than edited photos because they
can’t be ruined and sometimes when someone thinks that a photo looks good other people think
that I would look better if it hadn’t been edited.
