Profiles, My Home, Blogs, Groups, Bookmarks, Activities, Files and Wikis Build a profile Personalize your experience Connect with others Voice your opinion - tag, rate and recommend content Join or start a group Join forum discussions Write a blog Upload a file Add a bookmark Create a wiki Start an activity Watch real-time activity for a specific topic or user Follow a blog Listen to a podcast Connect to Facebook and promote your activity Follow Twitter Syndicate content outwards via "share this"
Search for skills and expertise Message colleagues through their profile Publicize your status from your profile Recent activity to include Forums, Downloads, Tagged articles, forums, spaces Social networking apps integration – Facebook, LinkedIn Edit your profile (inline); allow users to decide which fields to display publicly Identification of a person’s skills, interests, education and professional background Profiles give you your own identification, allowing users to communicate outward and interact with each other. Profiles Public profile – Persistent display of status updates, “The Board”, Tabs, Interests, Colleagues, Links, Facebook
Profiles Profiles are automatically created for a user when they register or log into developerWorks.  A user must have a profile to be able to utilize My developerWorks.  A user’s profile can contain both private and public information. A user can choose to keep mandatory information private except: Full name, and display name Edit profile – Contact info with collapse sections. In-line editing; show/hide
Groups Associate blogs, bookmarks, activities, files and wikis with a group Search capabilities – search specific groups, all groups or your own groups Message board Communicate with group members  Highlight important messages by pinning them to the top of the message board Members’ widget  to manage group members’ privileges Highlight important bookmarks Groups are micro communities that can be  public  or  private .  They have a lot of valuable features for allowing users to create an enriching collaborative environment.
Groups Available roles for group members are  owner  and  member : Any owner can email the entire group * Any owner can invite non-registered members to join * Any owner can invite other dW users to join * Any owner can change a member’s role Any member can access blogs, bookmarks, activities, files or wikis associated with the group *  Varies based on the group’s access level. Option Description Private :  Hidden and restricted to a particular set  of users.  This group is not accessed via search or other group listings.  It is only recommended for groups that are sharing confidential content or have a business critical need for a gated community.  Open :  Publicly available and anyone can join and contribute. A public group has a low barrier to entry, encouraging participation.  Public groups are a great marketing and communication vehicle to the external IT professional audience.
Activities Ability to associate with your group Items appear as a To Do list Assign a due date for any item Assign people to the item Track the progress Attach files and important information to the item Make work items private Send notifications for work item updates Publish checklists or best practices Activities are To Dos items for managing projects, or work items.
Blogs Blogs provide the ability to announce news,  information and important updates to your group.  Announcement widget at the top of the My dW blogs landing page Ability to “Follow this blog” for notifications Customization: add polls, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, colored themes, and more Comments available for discussing postings Blog author widget displays a photo of author(s)
Files Files provide the ability to upload your files to be  public  or  private .  Files can be organized into libraries for easier management. Upload and share files Browse files uploaded by others Add comments and recommend files Upload new versions of the file Get notifications of file revisions See the # of times files are downloaded Any file type up to 200 MB can be uploaded.
Wikis Wikis are for easy creation and collaborative content for your group. Supports basic wiki functions Wiki editor has html source, rich text and preview tabs Page history Notifications on wiki page updates and comments  Tags, comments, attachments and recommendations
Bookmarks Bookmarks are favorite links that are associated with the group and available to everyone. Ability to associate with your group Any URL can be used such as a RSS feed, search results, etc. Add bookmarks to other My developerWorks features (i.e. Activities) Identify significant bookmarks as important for increased visibility  Add the “Bookmark This!” button to your web browser for one-click bookmarking
