hollow metallic
device that is
shaped
somewhat like a
cup and makes a
ringing sound
when struck.
2. Gong – It is a large
piece of metal
shaped like a plate
that makes a loud
ringing sound when
struck with a stick or
hammer.
3. Triangle - It is a musical instrument
with three sides and curved corners.
There is always one
corner where the
sides do not join.
The player holds a
small piece of string
and makes a sound
by hitting the triangle
with beater.
4. Drum – It consists of
a shell with a stretched
skin, or covering. When
the covering is hit with a
hand or stick, it vibrates
and makes sound.
5. Castanet – It
consists of two
small flat round
parts fastened to
thumb and clicked
by the fingers.
6. Maracas - It made
of a dried gourd with
seeds or pebbles
inside that is usually
played in pairs by
shaking.
7. Cymbals – It is
form of a brass
plate that is
struck with a
drumstick or is
used in pairs
struck together.
8. Rhythm Sticks –
It is a pair of plain
or notched wood
sticks that are
struck or rubbed
together to produce
various sounds. It
used especially by
young children in
rhythm bands.
9. Sand Blocks
- produce two very
different sounds- one
made by tapping the
blocks and another
by scraping them.
10. Xylophone - It has bars of different
lengths arranged side by side.
When a
performer strikes
the bars with a
stick, the bars
produce sounds.
Each bar is tuned to
produce a particular
note.
