The document discusses regulations of music videos in the UK by the BBFC. It examines several case studies of music videos that caused controversy, such as Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" which was banned from some universities for promoting an unhealthy attitude towards sex and consent. Other discussed videos include M.I.A's "Born Free" which depicted graphic violence, and Eminem's "Just Lose It" which portrayed Michael Jackson inappropriately. Overall, the document finds that as music videos have become more popular and explicit, regulation has been needed to restrict content like graphic violence, sexual imagery, and offensive material that could affect viewers.

Generating a custom Ruby SDK for your web service or Rails API using Smithyg2nightmarescribd
Have you ever wanted a Ruby client API to communicate with your web service? Smithy is a protocol-agnostic language for defining services and SDKs. Smithy Ruby is an implementation of Smithy that generates a Ruby SDK using a Smithy model. In this talk, we will explore Smithy and Smithy Ruby to learn how to generate custom feature-rich SDKs that can communicate with any web service, such as a Rails JSON API.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Music video regulations
1.
2. In this task I will be researching the regulations and who regulates the content of music videos in the UK and
will be research how the process of regulations works. Furthermore I will be researching different case studies
and why their music videos have been accused by the regulations and controversies that surrounds them. I will
be expecting to find why music videos are regulated, who regulates the music videos in the UK and what types
of things in music videos are considered needed to be regulated. Lastly I will expect to find the different
theories and how they effect the music videos.
3. Regulation is an abstract concept of management of complex systems according to a set of rules and trends. In
systems theory, these types of rules exist in various fields of biology and society, but the term has slightly
different meanings according to context. The regulation is controlled by the BBFC who set certain standards
and ratings for different age groups who they believe should be exposed to content specific to their age.
Currently the BBFC regulates music videos in the UK.
The BBFC regulates many different types and things on music videos such as drug misuse, dangerous
behaviour presented as safe, bad language, sexual behaviour and nudity, threating behaviour and violence.
BBFC controls regulations for music videos, they control it because some music videos include things that
aren't inappropriate or something that causes a lot of controversy for some viewers.
BBFC States that “To improve consumer awareness about the content of certain music videos, and to improve
child protection online,Vevo andYouTube, working in partnership with the BBFC, are making permanent a
pilot scheme to age rate all music videos by artists signed to Sony Music UK, Universal Music UK andWarner
Sony Music, Universal Music andWarner Music will send videos to the British Board of Film Classification
(BBFC) before putting them onYouTube andVevo. Of the 132 videos submitted to the BBFC so far, 56 are rated
12 and 53 classified 15.
4. The History of Music video regulations.
In recent years there has been an increase in the popularity of music videos. Although the concept of music videos has
been around since the early 1960's', it has recently exploded. Recently produced music videos are quite different from
the original black and white videos.
As music videos have become more popular, the concern has risen over the increasingly violent and sexual nature.
Parents and have objected to the graphic violence and sexual imagery used in music videos. Record companies also
have expressed their concerns over the portrayal of women in music videos as well as the violence.
5. RobinThicke, ‘Blurred Lines’
This music video was controversy because in the lyrics includes the lines “I know you want it” and “I'll give you
something big enough to tear your ass in two”, and which was banned from multiple university campuses in
the UK. Furthermore the use of women in barely – clothed walking around and one topless in the music video
further caused controversy of women being seen as objects and such.
In the United Kingdom, more than 20 universities banned the song from use at student events. At the
University of Edinburgh, students' association officials stated that the song violates its policy against "rape
culture and lad banter" and promotes an unhealthy attitude towards sex and consent. This music theory
follows the theory of the male gaze theory where women are seen to be sexualized objects which this music
video shows. However this follows the gratification theory because it involves the music video entertaining the
audience in which the consumer starts to enjoy because of the females dancing while almost being naked
which gives the consumer a escape to enable them to forget about their worries.
Sia Elastic Heart
The video, which saw the 12-year-old Ziegler and 28-year-old LaBeouf cage-fighting in a skin-coloured leotard
and pants, was one of the more controversial videos of the year, with critics claiming it had paedophilic
overtones. This music video was controversy because it was seen to have some paedophilia in which the 12
year old girl and 28 year old man were dancing together almost naked with only beige dancewear which some
people get confused in seeing them naked. The outcome was that the artist Sia apologised on twitter. This
music video is most likely caused a lot of controversy because of how it showed paedophilic tones in the music
video.
6. Michael Jackson - "Black orWhite" (1991)
Though most of the video remains not controversial as it was one of the first videos to have a morphing
sequence in the end of the video. The last four minutes shows Jackson vandalising after morphing from a
panther. , that the last four minutes was not meant to be controversial. To make it more understandable, the
four minutes were altered with four racist graffiti messages added on the windows in order to show that
Jackson was vandalising the windows as a sign of against racism. The last parts were seen to affect people
because It had racist words which would offend the viewer that is why it was taken out.
Born free – M.I.A
This video has been age-gated byYouTube and this British star has called it hypocritical. A controversial video
for its content which depicts a mass genocide of red-haired people, or gingers – it also comes with a statutory
warning. The violence-ridden video is the artist's comment on the real-life violence – both in America and
M.I.A's native country Sri Lanka. This music video was very controversial because it shows the mass genocide
of red-haired people which can be related to other things such as the holocaust and can link to others in many
ways. The use of genocide is very wrong and will cause a lot of controversy and regulations issues. Furthermore
the scene of where the kid getting shot in the head can be seen clearly with lots of bloods which further
banned the music video for being too realistic and violent at the same time.
7. "Low" by Foo Fighters
Dave Grohl said the six hours of film he shot with actor Jack Black included sex toys, but discretion led them
to edit those out of the video. Still, scenes of Black taking a dump, Grohl fondling himself and a cross-dressed
spanking were evidently too much for MTV, which deemed the 2003 video unsuitable for all ages.
This music video was banned because it was seen to include things such as indecency sexual scenes as Groh
fondling himself and jack black taking a dump which is seen to be a extreme for any viewers that was why the
music video was banned. Further more a cross-dressed spanking was also evident In the music video which
further exceeded the limitations that same viewers would view causing a lot more controversy and banning
the music video all together.
Just lose it – Eminem
This vide was controversial because Michael Jackson had directly called Eminem's music video where he
portrayed him as “inappropriate and disrespectful”The vide showed a noseless Michael Jackson on a bed full
of children because Michael Jackson had had a child molestation trail and this shows to be a parody of him.
This video was censored because it shows Eminem's representation of Michael Jackson to be inappropriate.
8. Overall the music video industry has changed since music videos had never been age regulated and now the
UK has implemented it not a while ago by having the BBFC regulating music videos online in the UK.This will
inform my planning because I know if my music video will be regulated if its too violent or dis obeys the BBFC
guidelines. Furthermore lots of controversies on music videos are seen since many music videos try to do
original things and want to do explicit content to engage the audience while watching the music video to
further their experience which I think many music videos do.
I think that it is important to regulate video because young children may watch these types of videos which
than can affect the way they think and view things which can damage their ways of thinking and such or
maybe follow these ways and think these images and meanings are acceptable and should be followed. This
links to the hyperaemic needle theory where watching something suggesting that an intended message is
directly received and wholly accepted by the receiver.
I will use this research to decide the content of my own media production such as by not including anything
that will cause a ban or become controversial. I will keep my production clean for all viewers and friendly.
