1. Music video mind map summery
The primary and secondary ideas in the mind map will aid me in shooting my music video as
it generates different aspects that I can take when filming. The song we have chosen is:
Modeselektor – Berlin and falls into the Electronic genre. Conventions of this genre are
usually vibrant colours and include a presents of socialising. The narrative of the video will
be linear with a circular structure as the day will go in reverse. It will consist of the character
throwing up in the first scene and then journeying backwards . However we are also going
to include some abstract imagery to give the video its own feel. This will consist of Buildings,
objects and general activity that we will find upon filming. The visual style of the video will
be from a person’s point of view, a sense of ‘a day in the life’ of the character and their
encounters. To add to this we will involve a range of colours in the clothing and locations,
we will ask our friends to get involved with the video and ask them to dress accordingly. We
are trying to keep props to a minimal in order to ensure continuity and costs. The
cinematography will vary in our music video, Close ups of objects and other activity will be
used to show the detail. Medium profile shots will also be used in the transport scenes to
show the outside as well as the character. POV shots will be most dominant in order to
create a sense of seeing through the characters eyes. When setting the scene, we will use
panning and long shots to show the environment. The editing and special effects will
combine to deliver the style of the video; we will open with a black and white title and then
close with a cut to black; representing the beginning and end of a day. Synchronous editing
is very important as the footage will go with most parts of the song, because of this it will be
fast paced in most parts and slows in others. We will also experiment with different types of
filters over the footage to project a certain mood for the scene. Iconography will play a big
part in our video;. Empty bottles will be seen a lot to show an image of partying or
exhausted teenagers.Flashing images is a stereotypical convention of the electronic genre
therefore we plan to shoot something like this. In order to give it the right style, locations
are very important. We will shoot in urban environments with visual background interest to
give it a sense of realism instead of clinical places. Industrialised derelict spaces and fields
will also be used to counteract the slower parts of the song. Graffiti will be predominant in
the video to make it seem youthful with also adds to the stylistic feel of the video which is
something teenagers can relate to.
