The document analyzes and summarizes key shots and themes in the music videos for Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" and Jessie J's "Who You Are". For "Shape of You", it notes the use of point-of-view shots to show different perspectives, a mono color scheme with red filters used to emphasize important messages. Key shots analyzed include a close-up of a kiss and a long shot of a defeated man. For "Who You Are", it discusses mid shots of Jessie J looking at her reflection, long shots of her covering her body showing insecurity, and close-ups used to show emotion with a blurred background making her the main focus.
2. Ed Sheeran- Shape of you Shape of you is a pop song released 'in
2017, it conveys the message of
determination, there are many point of
view shots in the video to show the
bigger picture of the scene. The colour
scheme remained quite mono toned,
however the important hidden
messages tended to have a red filter in
order to reinforce key points of the clip.
In this case,
The first shot opens with a close up of a
kiss with out showing the peoples faces
and ends with a long shot of a man
dressed up lying on the floor showing
defeat . Therefore showing the audience
its ok to be beaten but you have to pick
your self up again and work hard for
what you want.
The close up of a face and two hands locked
together in contrast with the red blurred out
lighting, symbolizes love. This therefore
creates an automatic emotional relationship
with the audience and the video
This mid shot is again in a red/ orange filter
highlights how it’s an important message. In
this clip we see it as almost a cry for help
influencing the audience to potentially
sympathies with Ed Sheeran if perhaps
they’re going through similar issues making
him someone to therefore look up to.
This close up of two people holding hands
reinforces the message that a connection is
more powerful then standing on your own
two feet, creating this idea of unity.
3. Jessie J- Who you are
The mid shot looks as if shes almost looking
at the reflection of her self. The MES in the
background suggests she’s an everyday
‘normal’ girl, suggesting negative self
reflection is normal however you need to be
strong enough to defeat.
The ong shot of Jessie J covering her body
infers that she’s insecure and not happy with
herself despite being thought to have the
‘perfect’ life.
Close ups are the best form of shots in
order to show emotion. The blurred out
background reinforces the message about
being ’true to who you are’ making Jessie J
the main focus of the clip, showing how the
surrounding world is therefore irrelevant.
Who you are is a song by
Jessie J released as the sixth
overall single. It was
released on the 13th
November 2011. The song
lyrics create a wide message
of staying true to yourself
which was a thought whe
was passionate about after
a three month lonely trip.
The track is based after the
albums name: who you are
acting a selling point for the
who you are. The clip is
shot in the same way
making look as if she's
looking in the mirror at her
self, to stay true to who she
is. This therefore presents
her as someone who faces
many challenges in life,
causing many to potentially
look up to her as an
individual.
