When we talk about genre, we are referring to the
composer`s intention when he or she creates a new piece
of music.
Vocal Genre
Is a music created for the human voice without
accompaniment. It is know as ``a cappella´´ voces.
Instrumental genre
Applies to any music played with instruments alone
Pure Music:
Applies to music that
is composed to be
played as music, and
nothing else.
Descriptive Music
Refers to music that
represents extra-
musical contexts that
are not directly
related to music.

Religious Genre
Music to be played in a religious context. They are two models, depnding
on whetheror not is it part of the liturgy (the way in wich public religious
worship, especially Christiam workship, is conduced)

Non-Liturgical Music
Music of a religious
character composed
for a religious
purpose, but wich is
not part of the liturgy.
Profane Genre
Comprises any composition that serves no religious purpose, whether
liturgical or non-liturgical, and wich is used for enterteniment, cultural or
educational purposses.
Popular Music
Folk Music
Includes popular folk
music for a specific
area, such as songs
from anonymus
sources, ballards,
local leyends and
history, handed down
from one generation
to the next.
Light Music
Includes any simple,
easy to understand,
mainstream music
of a marked
commercial
character, generally
intended for leisure.
Cultured Music
Itended for a cultural context,
these compositions are
written in a specific period.
They reflect the cultural
context of the time and the
composer´s personal
thoughts. They try to describe
our complex emotional
framework and how we
respond to our feelings and
moods.
Functional genre
Applies to music that serves as a backdrop to important
events, such as commemorations, shows and opening
ceremonies
Cinematographic genre
This is when motion picture sound tracks are used to
reinforce the film´s message, maximising the
sentiments and emotions in the script
Dubstep genre
Dubstep is a genre of Electronic Dance Music characterized by
heavy bass. It has roots in UK Garage, Grime, Drum and Bass. And
it is typically either instrumental or supplemented with vocal
samples.
Advertising genre
Used for radio and TV ads, this genre employs in the same way
films do. It tries to get people to choose certain products by
combining pictures and suggestive music to catch the attention of
potential buyers
