There are many different music genres that classify types of music according to their purpose. The main genres include vocal music, performed by singers with or without instruments; instrumental music, played only with instruments; and vocal and instrumental combined genres. Other genres are religious music for religious contexts, both liturgical and non-liturgical; profane genres for entertainment without religious purpose like popular, cultured, and folk music; and functional genres that provide background music for events.

Is performed by one or more singers with
or without instrumental accompainament.
Music without any non-vocal instrumental
accompaniment is referred to as a
cappella.
Vocal music is probably the most oldest genre from the music.

This genre applies to any music
played with instruments alone.
We can divide into two variants:
→ Pure Music; this genre applies to music what is
composed to be played as music and nothing else.
→ Descriptive Music; This genre refers to music that
represents extra-musical contexts that aren't related to
music.

This genre applies to music that
requires a combination of voices
and instruments.
5. ·Religious Genre··Religious Genre·
This is music composed to be played in a
religious context. We can distinguish
between religious music, depending on
whether or not it is part of the liturgy.
– Liturgical Music: Music composed for religious ceremonies, as part
of the liturgy.
– Non-Liturgical Music: Music of a religious character composed for a
religious purpose, but is which not part of the liturgy.

This comprises any composition that serves no religious
purpose, whether liturgical o non-liturgical and which is
used for entertainment or for cultural educational
purposes.
● Popular Music:
→Folk Music: Includes popular folk
music from a specific area, such us
songs of anonymous sources, ballads
and local legends anf history, handed
down from one generation to the next.
→ Light Music: Includes any simple,
easy-to-understand, mainstream,
music of a marked commercial
character, generally intented for
leisure. There are many examples of
light muisc, including pop music, rock,
blues and so on.

for a cultural context of the
time and the composer's
personal thougts .

Stage music is used in artistic
expressions acted out on a
stage, as in plays, operas,
zarzuelas, musicals, ballet and
dance.
10. ·Advertising·Advertising
GenreGenre··
Used for a radio o TV ads, this genre
employs in the same way films do.
It tries to get people to choose certain
products by combining pictures and
suggestive music to catch the attention of
potential buyers.
