Genre: A category of artistic composition, as
in music or literature, characterized by
similarities in form, style, or subject matter.
3. Hip-Hop
• Hip hop music, also called rap music, is a
music genre consisting of a stylized rhythmic
music that commonly accompanies rapping, a
rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted
• Usually appreciated amongst teenagers
• An example of artist: Lily Wayne
4. Pop
• Pop music derives from an abbreviation of ‘Popular’
music
• As a genre, pop music is very eclectic, often borrowing
elements from other styles including urban, dance,
rock, Latin and country; there are core elements which
define pop. Such include generally short-to-medium
length songs, written in a basic format (often the verse-
chorus structure), as well as the common employment
of repeated choruses, melodic tunes, and catchy hooks.

5. Rock
• A blend of black rhythm-and-blues with white
country-and-western; "rock is a generic term
for the range of styles that evolved out of
rock'n'roll.
• The music can also be very punk like, and have
strong meanings and heavy metal.
• An example of artist: The Ramones
6. Alternative and Independent
• A form of unique music artists, usually
creating music from DIY techniques. Their
music can be categorised into different genres.
• Not played through mainstream means.
• An example of artist: Bombay bicycle club
7. Classical
• Traditional genre of music conforming to an
established form and appealing to critical
interest and developed musical taste
• An example of artist: Beethoven
