1. What would it be like to work at Patagonia?
I think that when people work for a company at Patagonia that they have to be very
strong minded and more than motivated. It seems to me that the company employees are
very thoughtful in what they create with their products and have them tested so that they
would be able to help the environment. Yvon the company CEO “has implemented
products that would help the environment globally by saving the earth and has gotten
1,300 other companies to follow suit in the past 30 years” (Chouinard, 2014). This means
that when a person has to be very careful the way they present their resume and resume
application when applying for a position with the company. Patagonia has put in a lot of
effort to “attract people who share their same ideals and passion for the outdoors”
(Robbins & Coulter, 2014). This means when an before an employee could be hired that
employee must share the same inspiration as the company, such as caring for the
environment and wanted to create products that are tested out in the market before the
product could be sold on the market” (Chouinard, 2014). Therefore; this company is
motivated in caring for people in the community and around the globe and wants to have
employees to work for their company that can help the company grow and further better
productivity I the future and this is motivation. When you can have an employee that
would work for a company that is very inspired by the way the company conducts
business and caring for others around the globe that’s motivation.
2. Using what you’ve learned from studying the various motivation theories, what does
Patagonia’s situation tell you about employee motivation?

From what I have learn about motivation is that Patagonia motivation is “influenced by
workplace issues being able to handle crises in the tough economy” (Robbins & Coulter,
2014).Yvon “wants to be motivated and loyal to the company by giving employees high
level tasks significance that work is meaningful, because the employees helps and
preserve to protect the environment” (Robbins & Coulter, 2014). In addition I think that
many employees would be very motivated from the external factors of being able to have
the motivation to be able to have the responsibility to be able to have a say in what goes
on in a company. Therefore; it can make many employees at various companies feel as if
they were important given the challenges to make decisions.
3. What do you think might be Patagonia’s biggest challenge in keeping employees
motivated?
I think that when Patagonia give their employees a responsibility it’s not a job, but a duty
that they must be able to help and preserve the environment. That means that employees
has a social responsibility to control products that the company produces and has the
obligation to make sure that the products are safe and tested. The company gives an
employee the moral obligation to be able to handle the challenge of product testing, in
which would help employee stay motivated. Employees for the company have an “higher
purpose and are coached to be defined expectations, communicate deadlines and then let
the employees figure out the best way to meet the challenges” (Robbins & Coulter,
2014).

  • 2. Principals of Management 2 Patagonia Case Study 1. What would it be like to work at Patagonia? I think that when people work for a company at Patagonia that they have to be very strong minded and more than motivated. It seems to me that the company employees are very thoughtful in what they create with their products and have them tested so that they would be able to help the environment. Yvon the company CEO “has implemented products that would help the environment globally by saving the earth and has gotten 1,300 other companies to follow suit in the past 30 years” (Chouinard, 2014). This means that when a person has to be very careful the way they present their resume and resume application when applying for a position with the company. Patagonia has put in a lot of effort to “attract people who share their same ideals and passion for the outdoors” (Robbins & Coulter, 2014). This means when an before an employee could be hired that employee must share the same inspiration as the company, such as caring for the environment and wanted to create products that are tested out in the market before the product could be sold on the market” (Chouinard, 2014). Therefore; this company is motivated in caring for people in the community and around the globe and wants to have employees to work for their company that can help the company grow and further better productivity I the future and this is motivation. When you can have an employee that would work for a company that is very inspired by the way the company conducts business and caring for others around the globe that’s motivation. 2. Using what you’ve learned from studying the various motivation theories, what does Patagonia’s situation tell you about employee motivation?

Principals of Management 3 From what I have learn about motivation is that Patagonia motivation is “influenced by workplace issues being able to handle crises in the tough economy” (Robbins & Coulter, 2014).Yvon “wants to be motivated and loyal to the company by giving employees high level tasks significance that work is meaningful, because the employees helps and preserve to protect the environment” (Robbins & Coulter, 2014). In addition I think that many employees would be very motivated from the external factors of being able to have the motivation to be able to have the responsibility to be able to have a say in what goes on in a company. Therefore; it can make many employees at various companies feel as if they were important given the challenges to make decisions. 3. What do you think might be Patagonia’s biggest challenge in keeping employees motivated? I think that when Patagonia give their employees a responsibility it’s not a job, but a duty that they must be able to help and preserve the environment. That means that employees has a social responsibility to control products that the company produces and has the obligation to make sure that the products are safe and tested. The company gives an employee the moral obligation to be able to handle the challenge of product testing, in which would help employee stay motivated. Employees for the company have an “higher purpose and are coached to be defined expectations, communicate deadlines and then let the employees figure out the best way to meet the challenges” (Robbins & Coulter, 2014).
