Multiple sclerosis is an immune-mediated disease that damages the central nervous system through demyelination and axonal loss. It has a variety of clinical manifestations depending on the location of lesions, including sensory disturbances, motor impairment, fatigue, autonomic dysfunction, and cognitive issues. Diagnosis involves neurological exam, MRI imaging, and sometimes spinal fluid analysis. While new therapies have improved outcomes, treatment remains only partially effective at modifying the disease course.
