Prof. Garain discusses in brief on the backgrounds of learning algorithms & major breakthroughs that have been made in the field of machine perception in the last 50 yrs. He also discusses the role of statistical algorithms like artificial neural network, support vector machines, and other concepts related to Deep Learning algorithms.
Along with the above, Prof. Garain touched upon the basics of CNN & RNN, Long Short-Term Memory Networks (LSTM) & attention network & illustrate all of these using real-life problems. Several state-of-the-art problems like image captioning, visual question answering, medical image analysis etc. were discussed to make the potential of deep learning algorithms understandable.
Prof. Utpal Garain is one of the leading minds in Kolkata in the field of Neural Networks & Artificial Intelligence. His research interest is now focused on AI research, especially exploring deep learning methods for language, image and video analysis including NLP tools, OCRs, handwriting analysis, computational forensics and the like.

Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple IntelligencesMarie L
Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences proposes that there are seven distinct types of intelligence rather than a single general intelligence. The seven intelligences are linguistic, logical-mathematical, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, spatial, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. Traditionally, schools have focused primarily on linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligences, but Gardner argues all seven should be recognized and developed. Understanding students' varied intelligences can help teachers develop more effective lessons and better evaluate student learning.
This document provides information about a presentation given by Juniato Sidauruk on the theory of language teaching to lecturers at the University of Indonesia's graduate program in the Faculty of Cultural Sciences. The presentation discussed Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences and implications for applying multiple intelligences in the classroom. Supporting documents on Gardner's theory and applying it in the classroom were also included.
The document outlines Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, which defines intelligence as the ability to solve problems and create products valued in a particular cultural context. Gardner proposes eight intelligences: linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalist. The theory suggests that language learning should incorporate and value all intelligences, not just linguistic skills. Teachers should help students develop their multiple intelligences and see language learning as part of personal development. A variety of activities can be used to engage different intelligences in the language classroom.
The document discusses Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, which proposes that intelligence is not a single entity but rather composed of at least eight different dimensions or intelligences. It claims that everyone possesses each of these intelligences to some degree and can develop them throughout life. The eight intelligences identified are linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalist. Examples of each type of intelligence and activities that engage each one are provided. The document also discusses how a teacher's own dominant intelligences can affect their teaching style and the need to support all types of learners.
This document describes assessment in the affective domain, which emphasizes feelings, emotions, and acceptance or rejection of ideas. It outlines Krathwohl's taxonomy of the affective domain, which includes receiving, responding, valuing, organization, and characterization. The taxonomy moves from simple awareness and attention to complex internalization of values and consistent demonstration of behaviors aligned with those values. The document also provides examples of behavioral verbs and learning competencies for each level of the taxonomy to help assess affective objectives in a measurable way.
Howard Gardner's theory of Multiple Intelligences utilizes aspects of cognitive and developmental psychology, anthropology, and sociology to explain the human intellect.
The theory was introduced in 1983, with Gardner's book, Frames of Mind.
Gardner's research consisted of brain research and interviews. Based on his findings, Gardner identified the seven (he has subsequently added an eighth and is considering a ninth) separate intelligences.

Tutela Webinar - April 23, 2020
On the Internet, students are at the centre and educators are on the periphery, relying on pedagogy to steer the learning process at a distance. This session will cover aspects of transitioning to online spaces and managing students at a distance. The presenter will attempt to address questions and concerns related to online learning tasks in the four language skill areas.
This document discusses using technology like Google Classroom, Google Sites, and Google Hangouts for online learning. It provides guidance on setting up virtual classrooms using these tools, including creating classes, inviting students, assigning tasks, and facilitating synchronous interactions. Synchronous interactions could involve check-ins, sharing, scheduling meetings, inviting students, and assessing students through speaking tasks. Asynchronous learning involves planning, designing, preparing, and participating in internet learning spaces and assessing students.
Educators and Learners: this is 20-slide presentation of student artefacts created by one class of 19 adult ESL students after the completion of two leadership and project management research/presentation tasks (December 2019).

The document summarizes and critiques two doctoral dissertations and introduces a potential future dissertation. Dissertation A, by Dr. Negin Mirriahi, used a case study methodology to examine factors influencing technology adoption among foreign language instructors. Dissertation B, by Dr. Joyce Helmer, employed critical ethnography to examine Indigenous Teaching Circles and their online applications. Both dissertations are described in terms of their research problems, purposes, questions, methodologies, limitations, and delimitations. The document concludes by introducing a potential future dissertation by Rita Zuba Prokopetz focusing on students' reflection processes when completing eportfolios in online courses.
