Multimedia refers to integrating various media types like text, graphics, audio, video digitally. Multimedia applications use a combination of media to deliver information interactively. Examples include websites, educational courseware, games. Multimedia development is the process of creating content combining different media types. It involves conceptualization, planning, production, and documentation phases. Various software are used to generate multimedia content for different applications in areas like advertising, education and entertainment.
Multimedia data and information must be stored in a disk file using formats similar to image file formats. Multimedia formats, however, are much more complex than most other file formats because of the wide variety of data they must store. Such data includes text, image data, audio and video data, computer animations, and other forms of binary data, such as Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI), control information, and graphical fonts. (See the "MIDI Standard" section later in this chapter.) Typical multimedia formats do not define new methods for storing these types of data. Instead, they offer the ability to store data in one or more existing data formats that are already in general use.
For example, a multimedia format may allow text to be stored as PostScript or Rich Text Format (RTF) data rather than in conventional ASCII plain-text format. Still-image bitmap data may be stored as BMP or TIFF files rather than as raw bitmaps. Similarly, audio, video, and animation data can be stored using industry-recognized formats specified as being supported by that multimedia file format.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. Introduction:
➢ Multimedia is the field concerned with the computer-controlled integration of text,
graphics, drawings, still and moving images (Video),animation, audio, and any
other media where every type of information can be represented, stored,
transmitted and processed digitally.
Multimedia can also be defined as a combination of text, graphic, sound, animation,
and video that is delivered interactively to the user by electronic or digitally
manipulated means that can be recorded and played, displayed, interacted with or
accessed by information contentprocessing devices, such as computerized and
electronic devices, but can also be part of a live performance. The concept contrasts
with media that use only rudimentary computer displays such as text-only or
traditional forms of printed or hand-produced material.
Multimedia is made up of two words which are:
Multi: This means many, multiple or more than one.
Media: Method of distribution and information presentation formats eg text,
graphic, voice, images, music, etc.
3. ➢ Application
The word ‘Application’(in relation to multimedia) may refer to those fields to which
multimedia and multimedia contents can be used to facilitate businesses,
organisations, entertainment, institutions, etc. It may also mean a software a
package used in creating multimedia content.
In this context we can generally define multimedia application as an application
that uses a combination of many media sources such as texts, graphics, audios,
videos and animations. It is often used to deliver information which is more
powerful than printed learning resources such as printed text books. It also allows
users to interact with the information quickly and accurately. Educational
multimedia applications enable students to getinformation in various formats.
Examples of multimedia applications are World Wide Web,courseware, interactive
TV, computer games, and virtual reality.
Multimedia finds its application in various areas including, but not limited to:
Advertisements, Art, Education, Entertainment, Engineering, Medicine,
Mathematics, Business, Scientific research and spatial temporal applications.
For example,
CommercialUses: Much of the electronic old and new media used by commercial
artists and graphic designers is multimedia. Exciting presentations are used to grab
and keep attention in advertising.
➢ Development
Development (in relation to multimedia)is the creation of an interactive medium
using audio and visual information for such things as:
● Interactive Training
● Advertising
● Product Information
● Demonstrations
● Education
4. ● Seminars
● Games, etc
Multimedia development can further be defined as the process of creating content
which includes multiple forms of media. For example, a CD can contain audio,
video, pictures, etc. Presentations are rich with multimedia and often include
visuals, text, audio and video.
Multimedia development processes can be divided into the following phases:
➔ Conceptualization: The process of making multimedia starts with an "idea" or
better described as "the vision" - which is the conceptual starting point.
➔ Development plan: Defining project goals and objectives,These are actions,
things done in order to implement an objective
➔ Preproduction: The process of intelligently mapping out a cohesive strategy
for the entire multimedia project, including: content, technical execution and
marketing
➔ Post Production: Activities in this phase include content research,Interface
design, graphics development, selection of musicalbackground and sound
recording.
➔ Documentation: User documentation is a very important feature of high-end
multimedia titles.
In the production stage software programmes (software applications)are used in
creating the actual contents, example of such softwares are categorially placed
below:
Multimedia Category Software Application
Video Editing Adobe Premiere
Cyberlink Powerdirector
Adobe After Effect
Final Cut Pro
Animation AutoDesk 3D Max

➢ Relationship Between Multimedia, Application and Development:
Multimedia is concerned with the computer-controlled integration of text,
graphics, drawings, still and moving images (Video),animation, audio, and any
other media where every type of information can be represented, stored,
transmitted and processed digitally.Whereas Application is concerned with the
use of multimedia content in a particular field,an organization or an institution in
order to promote, sell or advertise a product and or entertain a set of audience.
While Development is concerned with the use of software applications and other
related tools to generate multimedia contents for use in a certain manner.
Thuse we defineMultimedia Application Developmentas:
The creation of exciting and innovative multimedia systems thatcommunicate
information customised to the user in a non-linear interactive format using a
combination of digital media types, such as text, images, audio, video and
animations.
