This document analyzes the author's own movie poster and compares it to previous posters they have analyzed. It identifies several codes and conventions used in movie posters, including placing actor names at the top, using bold colors for the title, including a billing block with production team names, adding logos for production and distribution companies, and noting the release date at the bottom. The author's poster includes these elements, with the exception of social media logos, challenging that convention. A key aspect of the author's poster is a mask worn by the antagonist, intended to add drama and intrigue as the unique selling point that draws in viewers.
This is my powerpoint for Film Poster Codes and Conventions that I am using for my research and planning in my Media Studies A2 Course at Sixth Form Year 13.

Movie Poster Analysis
4. 1- Cast, as you can see I have placed my the names of my actors at the top of
my movie poster. From analysing “The Lovely Bones” I have noticed that the
poster has the forename of the actor in small uppercase writing an then the
surname is in a large capitals that makes them stand out. I decided to use this
convention for my own movie poster.
2- The title of the Lovely Bones is in white and block capitals, I wanted my title to
stand out so I used a bold red to capture the audience’s attention. I think that this
is a necessary convention in order to get my audience to stop and look at my
poster.
3 - An essential convention of a movie poster is the billing block, a billing block
includes all of the names of the director, producers and whole production team.
From my research I have gathered that every movie poster has a billing block
and is needed to add a sense of professionalism.
5. 6 - My USP is the mask that the antagonist is wearing in the main image. The
mask adds drama, mystery and intensity to the poster, the aim of this USP is to
entice the audience to watch my movie.
7- The tagline for the film is very important and needs to be catchy in order to get
the audience’s attention. The tagline should be preferably short and snappy
whilst summarising the general plot of the film.
4- I have included both my distribution and production company
logos at the very bottom of the poster, The Lovely Bones has also
included their logos for their production and distribution companies.
• 5-
The Lovely Bones doesn’t have their social networking logos and web
address on their Movie poster therefore I have successfully challenged this
convention.
6. 8- The release date on the bottom of the poster stands out so that the viewer can see
when the film is going to come out. “COMING SOON” helps to build a hype for the film
because it leaves the viewers waiting for the release of the film.
