Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

- 1. EVALUATION 3: WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?
- 2. A production company provides the physical basis for works in the realms of the performing arts, media art film, television, radio and video. It essentially helps create the films dealing with things like budgeting, scheduling, scripting and casting. The company will usually over see the film throughout the whole process. Which company would distribute my film? What does a production company do? I would use Verve Pictures to distribute my film, they are an independent company that specialise in the release of independent films, in cinemas and on DVD. From looking into them they seem very passionate about the discovery of new talent and are committed to the release of films that have become lost in today’s multiplex culture. I think this match would be perfect for my film as I think going with an independent company will reach the type of people in the audience I am trying to reach. This company produce some very thought provoking films such as Couple in a Hole and IONA and I like to think that the people who watch these films would find my film just as thought provoking as I’ve tried to make it. Verve Pictures have had a 75% success rate from first time feature directors which is encouraging to hear being one myself, furthermore their films have won the BAFTA Outstanding Debut Award as well as others.

As my film is being distributed my an independent company I do not expect the revenue from my film to be much but I would at least expect due to the interesting topic of the film and its showing ( if possible) at film festivals like the Edinburgh film festival there will be some noise bouncing around on the internet or in the societies it’s welcomed. I hope to make back my money I spent on this film and if possible 2% more at minimum. It is my first film and I feel I’ve got to be realistic with what I think it could achieve, not because it isn’t an amazing film but purely because I haven’t had the recourses to distribute my film in the way I would have hoped too. How much money will my film make? Why are the various people name in the titles? The people named in my production are the main actors and the top people involved behind the scenes of the film. I put them in order of appearances for actors, so I had Rhett O’Connor first as he is the main character and the whole film is based around him, so without him there wouldn’t of been a film. Following his name I introduced the three other main characters, even though two of the characters you do not meet in the opening they are main characters and their roles are crucial to the film. When researching titles credits of film openings I found that typically they do go in order of importance, starting with main actors and then the less important names throughout the middle and ending with again important names from the production/editing side of the film. From learning this I thought it would be best to follow this template to get the greatest success.
- 4. Dexter and American Psycho What your film is similar to institutionally? Both of the above films open with a morning routine, which is similar to mine. Even though these films do not follow the same narrative as my film the do use similar codes and conventions in my opening, however they do use higher production budgets. By the other films using a morning routine too it gives me the sense that they want the audience to really get a feel for what the character is like, by showing the morning routine it gives an incite to what the character may be like in their day to day life or work place. I decided to do the same, however I do think my film opening shows individuality as the idea isn’t one that has been done much before and if it has it hasn’t been covered in this way., also feel that our main character’s age gives the film more of a unique selling point as you would see this topic covered with older children possibly or even adults.
