time, Motorola's main business was producing and selling televisions and
radios.

In 1958, with Explorer 1, Motorola provided radio equipment for

In 1969 Neil Armstrong spoke the famous words "one small step
for man, one giant leap for mankind" from the Moon on a Motorola’s
transceiver.
In 1973, demonstrated the first hand-held portable telephone.
In 1980, Motorola’s next generation 32-bit microprocessor,
the MC68000, powering devices from companies such
as Apple, Commodore, Atari, Sun, and Hewlett Packard at that
time.
Company introduced the Bravo numeric pager which became the
world's best-selling pager.
In 1991, Motorola demonstrated the world's first working phones
using GSM standard in Hanover, Germany in 1990.

In 1998, overtaken by Nokia as the world's biggest seller of mobile phone
handsets.
In 2002, introduced the world's first wireless cable modem gateway.
The Motorola RAZR line sold over 120 million units, which brought the
company to the number two mobile phone slot in 2005.
After having loss $4.3 billion from 2007 to 2009, the company was divided
into two independent public companies.
In July 2008 a large number of executives left Motorola to work on Apple
Inc.'s iPhone.

in Schaumburg, Illinois communications.
◇Home & Networks Mobility: Headquarters located
in Arlington Heights, Illinois; produces end-to-end systems for
digital entertainment, information and communications services
via wired and wireless mediums.
◇Mobile Devices: Headquarters located in Libertyville, Illinois;
designs wireless handsets. Also includes cellular and wireless
systems and Bluetooth accessories.
8. Change of owners
August 15, 2011, Google announced that it would purchase
Motorola Mobility for about $12.5 billion. On November 17,
2011, Motorola Mobility stockholders “voted
overwhelmingly to approve the proposed merger with
Google Inc. ” May 22, 2012:deal finalised.
Jan 29, 2014: Google sells off the Motorola Mobility to
Lenovo. The purchase price is approximately US$2.91
billion.
