Connect clear targets to assessment quality
Clear learning targets are necessary for quality assessment in three ways: (1) they help students achieve success by providing clarity on what will be learned and required, (2) they increase student engagement and importance of learning by involving students in the process, and (3) they clearly communicate to students how they will know if they have met the targets or been successful without needing to ask teachers. Examples from the author's experience illustrate that clear targets result in students understanding what must be done to perform well on assessments.
Reflection on my learning
Formative assessment is an important part of the teaching and learning process. It allows students to better understand what they are learning and why, and helps ensure they are more successful. Developing effective formative assessment takes work from teachers, who must understand student needs, provide regular feedback, and create a comfortable learning environment. Teachers should clearly outline learning targets, give examples to help students understand lessons, and focus instruction daily to monitor progress without high-stakes exams that cause unnecessary stress.

The role of the teacher is to motivate students and induce voluntary participation in activities. Motivation can be internal, arising from personal satisfaction in an activity, or external, induced by rewards or results. Effective motivation considers student characteristics and provides relevance and purpose to tasks.
Motivation factors in language learning
Motivation in language learning comes from both conscious and unconscious factors that create a desire to learn. There are three key aspects to consider: having a good teacher who engages students and helps them build self-confidence in their innate skills, engaged students who feel goals are attainable, and a supportive classroom environment where students feel free to communicate without fear, shame or frustration. When teachers help students believe in themselves, create trust, and foster a supportive environment where the classroom is an enjoyable place, students will be motivated to learn language skills easily and meaningfully.

He has a B.S. in Psychology from Appalachian State University and is currently a Team Leader at Target, where he trains new employees, coaches staff, and helps resolve issues. According to Kolb's theory of experiential learning, there are four basic learning styles (assimilative, accommodative, convergent, and divergent) that are determined by an individual's preferences along two dimensions: concrete experience/abstract conceptualization and active experimentation/reflective observation. Each learning style is associated with different learning abilities and characteristics. While individuals may exhibit a preference for one style, incorporating elements of multiple styles into teaching can help more learners succeed.
