Oman is located on the southern shore of the Arabian Peninsula where open water sailing developed, allowing for trade between Oman and other countries along the Indian Ocean. The Salt March was led by Gandhi in 1930 over 241 miles to protest a British law prohibiting collecting or selling salt except through colonial authorities. Akbar the Great significantly expanded the Mughal Empire during his rule from 1542-1605 through effective military and administrative reforms. He also created a new syncretic religion.
