Editor's Notes

  1. After taking my Online Calculator ID assessment I came to the realization that this is an area and world in which I am a virtual nobody. One thing I learned from this assessment is that the “purity” of my brand, meaning the relevance of the content I create towards my personal brand in vision is an essential part of creating a powerful online presence. Another thing I learned from my “low” score in all categories is that having a diverse portfolio of different social media platforms, blogs, vlogs, and other types of content is another great way to spread awareness about one’s personal brand. Lastly, I realized that I have a very common name, which is going to be a challenge I will have to face when beginning to create a strong presence online with my personal brand. Since there are already a handful of people who share my name that already have created strong presences online, it will be hard for me to quickly overcome those “1st page” search results. Conquering this problem will take some strategic thinking, hard work, and a consistency of creating strong and pure content.
  2. The Brand Archetypes Quiz assessment gave me a very accurate breakdown of my personality as far as my own personal perception of my brand. Being that all of my “top archetypes” were evenly scored tells me that I am very well rounded, and I should most definitely use this to my advantage. My “caregiver” archetype will allow me to always stay focused on my customers and clients, making them feel like I always have their needs in my best interest. My “explorer" archetype is my adventurous side, that makes my customers and coworkers feel alive and inspired when they around me. My “hero” archetype is what makes me a strong and capable leader. And finally, my “maverick” archetype is what makes me fearless when taking on new challenges and in the face of adversity. I believe that with the overall combination of these 4 archetypes I have a unique advantage to be able to be an inspiration in helping others while also being a leader and innovator within my industry.
  3. The Hootsuite platform is an amazing new tool for someone with a “digitally disguised” online personal brand who is looking to grow and create more of an online presence. The first tab and social media platform I chose to add to my Hootsuite account is Facebook. On my Facebook tab I have added streams for my own personal brand name Nick Orlando’s timeline, Events, and then a few various other festivals I really respect and will be competing with in the future. I added the Events stream because my business is going to be centered around events. It is important for me to know what is going on when and where, whether it be my own schedule events, or other events from competing promoters and production companies. The streams for other music festivals will help me to engage with some of their followers, to follow lineup releases, and to see what current business trends are working with the fans and those that are not working.
  4. The next tab and social medial platform I have added to my Hootsuite platform is Instagram. The music festival business is an industry whose social medial following is largely engaged by visuals, which makes Instagram one of the leading platforms used to create and share content on or at these events. The streams I have included are that of my own personal profile, some popular hashtags and conversations used when speaking about music festivals, and then a couple of the top promoters within the industry. The hashtags or conversational streams are essential to see what types of things are becoming most popular at other music festivals within my niche industry. By becoming a follower and engaging with this demographic and using my archetype of a caregiver and explorer I can truly instate some awesome personalized features to my events and festivals.
  5. The first specific piece of content I found using my hootsuite streams is the screenshot located on the left of this slide which is of an article entitled “11 New Reasons to Fall in Love with LOCKN’” (http://www.locknfestival.com/news/11-new-reasons-to-fall-in-love-with-lockn). This music festival located in Arrington, VA is a leader of innovation and success in the niche of the music festival business I am going to be entering. They truly are a customer-oriented organization, which this article is evidence of as it is talking about 11 big changes they have made to their event to ensure a greater level of comfort and satisfaction for their attendees. I can use this to further my career and personal brand by learning from their mistakes and steps towards and improvement, and by studying the way they engage with their customers, to gain a stronger ability to engage with my own target audience. This goes hand in hand with one of my main archetypes, the “caregiver” as I will always have the wants, needs, and happiness of my customers at the forefront of my mind. The next specific piece of content I chose to discuss which is displayed in the top right of the slide is another article and Spotify playlist I found on my Facebook stream from Hootsuite, entitled “A playlist by Bonnaroovians like YOU (Bonnaroo Cencus Favorite Songs) [https://play.spotify.com/user/brocensus/playlist/7Ld6rieriOge4qBYWNQTZI?play=true&utm_source=open.spotify.com&utm_medium=open]. I can use this to further my career by one, being able to learn from their census results to see what types of songs their followers chose, and two, by learning from the way Bonnaroo expertly uses social media and online surveys to gauge the satisfaction, likes and dislikes of their attendees year after year. Bonnaroo is a leader in social media content and follower interaction within the festival business, so by studying tactics like this like using surveys, and music streaming platforms such as Spotify, I can gain knowledge and ideas on how to interact with my own target audience. The third piece of specific content I chose to discuss is depicted in the screenshot in the bottom left of the slide and is an article & post announcement about newly scheduled “pre-party” events all around North America for the great Shambhala Music Festival (https://www.facebook.com/shambhalamusicfestival/photos/a.61294308820.69514.9633698820/10154989110968821/?type=3&theater)/. This is a new way promoters are engaging and creating new audiences all over the continent as they lead up to the actual date of their event. I can learn from them buy using this tactic to not only engage my target audience and widen the reach of my online brand, but also to help grow my brand, business, and festival attendance numbers.
  6. I set up my google alerts to monitor my own personal brand name, “Nick Orlando”, as well as other industry terms and a couple of the leading businesses within the live music industry. The industry terms I chose to follow are “Music Business”, “Music Festival”, and “Concert”, because the live entertainment sector of the entertainment industry is where my brand and company will be residing. The companies I chose to follow are AEG and Live Nation because they are the top 2 concert and festival promotion companies in the world, and I hope to one day work for or with both of them. Since the results of my online Calculator ID were “digitally disguised”, I did not find any relevant results to my name with Google Alerts. I can improve and expand these results by improving the constancy and consistency of my creation of content through all social media platforms, as well as have some of my contacts on LinkedIn write recommendations or positive reviews on my profile.
  7. The first specific piece of information I learned about from my Google Alerts is an article pulled from my “Music Festival” feed, entitled “Ellie Goulding Calls Out Music Festivals For Lack Of Female Performers” (http://etcanada.com/news/237601/ellie-goulding-calls-out-music-festivals-for-lack-of-female-performers/). This is very important and relevant to someone aspiring to grow within the live music business, and can be used in multiple ways to help grow and promote my brand: I can use this kind of public outreach of female artists to help be on the cutting edge of the one-sidedness of music festivals by incorporating more females into my lineup, keeping in mind that although the majority of the festival attendee is demographic, the female portion is growing. I can also use this kind of knowledge to reach more female followers with my “caregiver” archetype of my personal brand.
  8. The next piece of information I pulled from my Google Alerts was an article entitled “Comedy Central’s Colossal Clusterfest Was a Festival Done Right” (https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2017/06/comedy-centrals-colossal-clusterfest-was-a-festiva.html). Colossal Clusterfest was an event first of its kind in that it was a complete Comedy Festival and produced by the company Superfly Events who is a co-producer of the legendary Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. Superfly is one of the company’s that I really hope to work for post-graduation, so learning all about what they are doing and their company’s current events will help me as I come closer to a job interview. By incorporating some of this amazing company’s current events into my social media platforms, I begin to grow and associate my brand with everything they stand for, and also hopefully become known by members of their world-renown marketing department. By associating my brand with theirs, this will also help me rise out of the lands of “digitally disguised” and slowly attain a status of digitally distinct. Superfly is a leader in the live events industry, and another benefit by associating my brand with theirs will help solidify the “hero” archetype of my brand and my leadership and forward thinking qualities.
  9. The third piece of information I pulled from my Google Alerts was an article entitled “London’s O2 Arena caught up in US touring turf war” (http://www.musicweek.com/live/read/london-s-o2-arena-caught-up-in-us-touring-turf-war/068995). This article came up in my “AEG” alert, as AEG Presents is another company who I would love to work for or with in the future, as I have already started creating connections there. It is about a dispute going on between AEG and another promotion company over bringing global touring acts to certain venues. The O2 Arena is London’s premier arena, and if AEG refuses to book certain global acts there it will have a strong impact not only on London but the entire European music scene. I can use this information to learn about some of the kinds of challenges I am going to encounter in the future when branching out with my own promotion company, and also to stay current on the events in the news of another company I truly respect and would love to work for. Creating content that is associated with AEG will also help solidify the “hero” archetype of my brand as a leader within the industry., as well as help my purity and relevance scores of my Online Calculator ID assessment.
  10. Feedly is perhaps my favorite tool to use to stay current on current events that are specific to or related to my interests or industry. The three collections I set up on my dashboard are “Business”, “Music”, and “Technology”. I set them up in these categories because as an entrepreneur planning to enter the live music sector of the entertainment industry, staying current on current business trends, events and news in music, and innovative technology will all be key components to my short and long term success. Some of the feeds under my “Business” collection are “Forbes - Business”, “Forbes - Entrepreneur”, “Mashable”, and the “American Marketing Association. I hope to improve upon my personal brand with these feeds by constantly learning about the most successful and cutting edge business and marketing practices, reading about businesses that are doing well, and those who are doing not so well, so I am always prepared and up to date on the current climate of the marketplace. Some of my favorite feeds under my “Music” collection are “billboard.com", “Eventbrite US Blog”, and “Jambase”. This collection will most likely be the one I study the most. Billboard is one of the best sources for all around news in the music industry; Eventbrite is a leader in live event marketing services, and creates amazing and useful content for aspiring event producers and managers; Jambase is the leading source of news and event announcements in the jamband niche of the music festival business. I will use these to stay up to date on my industry, and to help reference and post content that will be extremely relevant to my brand. Staying up to date with he “Technology” collection of my brand could be what separates me from my competitors. Constant innovation of audio, visual, and VR technologies is changing the live music industry as we speak. Using this feed will again help to solidify the “Hero” archetype of my personality in my brand and also the “Explorer” archetype, as I hope to always be on the forefront of the industry as far as incorporation of new technologies into my business and events.
  11. The first article and piece of information I pulled from Feedly that I believe will help me solidify and improve my brand is an article on the Eventbrite US Blog, “6 Tips to Get Your Event Budget Planning Right” (https://www.eventbrite.com/blog/event-budgeting-ds00/). The content this article provides is so crucial to the success in my industry. Their number tip in this article is to “start the budget process early”, which seems so simple, but ultimately is what sets up many producers for an early failure. By incorporating some of the tips I have learned here I can ensure that my personal brand is continually associated with success and excellence. One of my other passions is helping others find their OWN passion in life and helping them to materialize their dreams. By sharing this content with other aspiring event producers I can do just that - This helps solidify my “caregiver” archetype, and will also give me lots of relevance and purity points in my Online Calculator ID assessment.
  12. The next article I pulled from Feedly is another amazingly useful write-up from the Eventbrite US Blog, entitled “Snapchat vs. Instagram: Which One Is Best for Your Event?” (https://www.eventbrite.com/blog/snapchat-vs-instagram-for-events-ds00/). The article goes through the different fun features and follower bases that each platform is associated with, and how they can each go about reaching your target audience. Their opinion and research shows that due to its enormous of reach of over 600 million users, Instagram is by far the better social media platform for the event industry. This is such great and useful information for someone with my current “disguised” social media presence, and also for an aspiring music festival producer. By incorporating this knowledge into my life and business practices I can be more effective in the growing and outreach of my personal brand. By using Instagram as one of my key platforms I can better target the audience that I want to reach. Also, by knowing that I am being more effective and targeting my audience, I can help solidify my brand archetypes of the caregiver, explorer, hero, and maverick.
  13. The last article I pulled from my Feedly account that I chose to discuss is an article by the American Marketing Association entitled “The United States of Brands” (http://www.marketingpower2.com/mpblog/2013/07/08/the-united-states-of-brands/). This picture was created by a graphic artists and represents each state with a brand that is most popular in or associated largely with that state. This is useful towards my career because by looking at each one of these brands and what their associated values are, I can better understand the demographic of each state, and know how to properly reach them and engage my target audience. This could also lead to helping me decide which states to host my events in. I can use this information towards strengthening my personal brand by choosing to spend more time marketing my events or social media presence in states that align with my archetypal values of the caregiver, explorer, hero, and maverick, based on each state’s particular brand of choice.
