The Moneyball Approach to Recruitment: Big Data = Big ChangesGlen Cathey
This is the keynote presentation I delivered at the 2012 ATC in Sydney, Australia on the topic of the Moneyball opportunity that exists for companies when they are sourcing, identifying, assessing, and recruiting talent. Big Data and predictive analytics are just beginning to be leveraged in talent acquisition, and I am convinced it is the future. I think you will find the examples of how companies are leveraging analytics in their recruitment as well as in the analysis of their current workforce to be quite interesting. You may be shocked to find that data supports the fact that taller and more attractive men and women make more money than their shorter and less attractive peers - which gives us a glimpse into how people make hiring and promotion decisions based on unconscious prejudice, similar to how unconscious prejudice, wisdom, and "gut" instincts are used in athletic recruiting. As demonstrated in Moneyball, the best teams can be sometimes built with data-based decision making, throwing conventional wisdom to the wind.
Don't Forget the 'H' in HR: Ethics, Trust & People AnalyticsDavid Green
Ethics is arguably the most important part of people analytics and one of the biggest challenges facing practitioners. With people analytics teams increasingly looking to incorporate data from emerging technologies such as wearables and non-traditional (for HR) data sources like email and collaboration tools as well as the impending EU GDPR legislation, this challenge is set to grow. In this presentation, l combine research from the likes of the IBM Smarter Workforce Institute and Insight222, case studies from IBM, Cisco and Microsoft and guidance on how to build employee trust, grow capability and incorporate techniques such as Organisational Network Analysis.

People analytics is increasingly being used by analytically advanced companies to help drive productivity, performance, innovation and collaboration. Organisational Network Analysis (ONA) is at the fulcrum of much of these efforts and is a technique that many analytics and HR professionals want to learn more about. This presentation features research, case studies and guidance covering both active and passive data sources that will demystify ONA and demonstrate how in combination with people analytics it can help improve both business outcomes and employee experience.
Data is becoming an engine for many businesses in the information age, and every company needs to consider look at how that feels in their business model.
This an introductory guest lecture for students at Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship.
The D&B U.S. Economic Health Tracker exhibited resilience in May 2014. Readings on the small business community continued to stabilize although the anticipated bounce back has so far failed to materialize. In the meantime, some 297,000 new non-farm jobs were created, driven by strong gains in the business services and trade/transportation/utilities segments. Finally, the U.S. Business Health Index strengthened once again in May, registering a 54-percent index value, the highest recorded level since the index began in December 2010. U.S. businesses show sustained balance sheet and financial health, based on the weighted average of D&B's Viability Rating, Delinquency Predictor, and Total Loss Predictor. In spite of accelerating business expansion, lackluster economic growth and uncertainty remain significant restraints and should be monitored closely heading into the third quarter.

Unlocking the Value of Big Data (Innovation Summit 2014)Dun & Bradstreet
Big Data is central to the strategic thinking of today’s innovators and business executives as companies are scrambling to figure out the secret to transforming Big Data to Big Insight and that Insight into Action. As many companies struggle with the emerging technologies and nascent capabilities to discover and curate massive quantities of highly dynamic data, new problems are emerging in the form of how to ask meaningful questions that leverage the “V’s” of large amounts of data (e.g. volume, variety, velocity, veracity). In the Business-to-Business space, these challenges are creating both significant opportunity and ominous new types of risk. This presentation discusses how companies are reacting to these changes and provide valuable insight into new ways of thinking in a world with overwhelming quantities of data.

Democratization and Decisions through Data: Scaling Search at the Enterprise ...Keith Goode
Presented on Thursday, September 19th, 2019 at the W Hotel in Washington D.C. for Advanced Search Summit D.C. If you want to build an army of minions for your SEO efforts, you'll find quite quickly that scaling with industry pros isn't always practical or possible. In this session, Keith Goode, Sr. SEO Strategist at IBM will discuss how enterprise organizations are building centers of excellence focused on democratizing best search practices, instilling a Decisions through Data mindset, and making the entire digital experience practice Agile. Learn how to establish a solid framework, break that framework into actionable efforts, and enable the entire organization to move your search experience forward.
The D&B U.S. Economic Health Tracker showed dogged improvement in April 2014. Small business health stabilized after a number months of decline. Although wintry weather took its toll in the Northeast and Midwest earlier in the year, small businesses continue to demonstrate strong on-time bill and credit-card payments. Meanwhile, an estimated 208,000 new jobs were created, driven by strong gains in the retail and manufacturing segments. Finally, the U.S. Business Health Index strengthened yet again in April, registering a 53.7-percent index value, the highest recorded level since the index began in December 2010. U.S. businesses show sustained balance sheet and financial health, based on the weighted average of D&B’s Viability Rating, Delinquency Predictor, and Total Loss Predictor. Overall, the American economic recovery remains a choppy one, albeit with signs of hope in specific sectors.
The Chief Data Officer - quotes from data & analytics thought leadersMario Faria
Data & Analytics have become so important on how business are differentiating themselves in the marketplace. With the help from the most well recognized data leaders of our time, I have put together their thoughts in this material. By sharing our thinking, we want companies to understand what it takes to become a data-driven organization.
In this presentation, Paul Ballew, D&B's Chief Data and Analytics Officer, explains the three levels of insight needed to gain an informed perspective for smarter decisions involving big data.
Data-Centric Analytics and Understanding the Full Data Supply ChainDATAVERSITY
While model development is an important part of analytics, this activity can be compromised by a lack of understanding of the data used in these models and poor Data Quality. For insights to be relied upon and truly actionable, data-related issues must be addressed.
The data supply chain (the set of architectural components that moves data around the enterprise from points where it is created or acquired to points where it is used) must be managed to supply the needs of analytics and other constituencies.
This webinar describes how the data supply chain should be designed and operated to provide analytics with the data it needs, and how Data Scientists should interact with the data supply chain to obtain the data they need. It also covers:
Data-centric considerations that must be taken into account in the development of analytic models
Features of a modern data supply chain
Major components in the data supply chain, with a focus on Data Lakes
Major roles and responsibilities in the data supply chain
How analytics must interact with the data supply chain
The Chief Data Officer's Agenda: Leading the Enterprise Data Strategy and Org...DATAVERSITY
In this webinar we will blend two hot topics into one conversation:
Data Strategy
The Role of The Chief Data Officer
Our guest Jim Tyo is ideally placed to provide perspective in both areas, because as Chief Data Officer he heads up the Enterprise Data Office (EDO) of BB&T, where his main focus is to leverage data to drive business insights into revenue opportunities, ensure regulatory compliance and identify/manage risk. John Ladley will discuss with Jim how he manages the EDO to accomplish these objectives, and will delve into the following topics along the way:
What was the background to BB&T’s decision to appoint a Chief Data Officer, and what qualifications did Jim bring to the job?
What’s the organizational and reporting structure around the role? What authority does the CDO have to get things done?
What are the five functional tenets of CDO responsibility at BB&T?
How does the CDO provide leadership across various areas including Data Governance, Quality, Analytics and Architecture.
What style of leadership has proven most effective?
How does the CDO differ from the role of the CIO?
Have there been notable successes of the CDO and/or EDO?
Have there been any mistakes along the way…lessons learned that might be handled differently next time?
What issues are on the horizon for the next year? What’s next up for Jim as the CDO?

Big Data
As firms move from siloed, transaction-oriented systems to more integrated,
socially aware ones, they will face challenges related to customer data. “Big data”
is characterized by increases in data volume, velocity, variety, and variability. To
improve customer engagement, companies must invest in solutions to effectively
manage big data.

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.
