Types of Orchard Farms
This lesson will discuss the different types of Orchard Farms that can be
considered in planting trees most especially for food production. It
comprises fruit- or nut producing trees which are generally grown for
commercial production. You will also discover the appropriate trees that
suit your place, since not all trees are equally well-suited for every
planting site or in every climate that we have in our country.

Different Types of Orchard
1. Fruit Orchards-
this orchard include any facility
that focused on growing tree-
bearing fruits such as citrus fruits,
papaya, mango, lime and avocado.
SLIDESMANIA.COM
2. Nut Orchards –
these orchards include facilities
that produce nuts such as cashew,
pecan, walnut, almond, cacao,
coconut, and pine.
SLIDESMANIA.COM
3. Seed Orchards-
these orchards focus primarily on
growing trees that produce seeds sold
for commercial distribution or resale
purposes. They can be sold to agricultural
companies or used for food production.

Monsoon
Season
It is considered to be the best for planting
evergreen fruit trees like citrus, mango, and
guava.
A monsoon is traditionally a seasonal reversing wind accompanied by corresponding changes in precipitation, but is now used to
describe seasonal changes in atmospheric circulation and precipitation associated with the asymmetric heating of land and sea.

Plant
propagation
Plant propagation is the process of reproducing or creating a new plant or
seedling. It is an important part of gardening, whether outdoors or indoors.
Plants are living things that grow either through their roots, stems and
leaves of their flowers, fruits, and seeds. It is a method of growing new
plants from seed or from parts of existing plants. This lesson will discuss
the proper way of planting and propagating trees, their sources and ways
to care for the seedlings.
SLIDESMANIA.COM
Plant propagation is the
process that grows new
plants from a variety of
sources: seeds, cuttings,
and other plant parts.
It is an important part of gardening, whether outdoors or indoors. Plants are living things that grow either through their roots,
stems and leaves of their flowers, fruits, and seeds. It is a method of growing new plants from seed or from parts of existing

SLIDESMANIA.COM
PROPER WAY OF PROPAGATING
FRUIT-BEARING TREES
1. Sexual Propagation
2.Asexual Propagation
SLIDESMANIA.COM
Sexual Propagation- is the method of reproducing and multiplying plants
using seeds. This is the most common and easiest method of propagating plants. Many fruit tree
varieties are propagated from seeds
SLIDESMANIA.COM
Asexual Propagation- is the method of plant propagation that is done without the help of the
reproductive organs of the plants. This is the production of new plants from leaves, stems and
roots. It can be done manually, either naturally or using a scientific approach.
SLIDESMANIA.COM
Artificial
Processes in
Propagating Trees
A tree is a tall plant with a trunk and branches made of wood. Trees can
live for many years.A single tree has many roots. The roots carry nutrients
and water from the ground through the trunk and branches to the leaves
of the tree. They can also breathe in air.
SLIDESMANIA.COM
Artificial Processes in Propagating Trees
1. Marcotting or Air layering
2. Grafting
3. Budding
4. Cutting
SLIDESMANIA.COM
Marcotting or Air layering – this is the simplest method of
propagating plants usually done during rainy season. It induces the
stem to develop roots while it is still growing on the mother plant.
CTTO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQyM81gOsP4&ab_channel=D%27rusticWorld
SLIDESMANIA.COM
Steps in marcotting:
1. Select the right
branch.
2. Make a deep cut
3. Peel of the bark
4. Wrap it with a ball of
soil
5. Wrap with plastic
sheet
6. Tie the end
7. See the root through
the plasting sheet
8. Remove the wrapper
9. Prune the rooted
branch
SLIDESMANIA.COM
Grafting– a plant
propagation method that
involves inserting a scion into
a stock so that it will form a
union and grow together.
CTTO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POw08yfozW0&ab_channel=AgriCAMBO
SLIDESMANIA.COM
Budding-this method of plant
propagation that used single bud
from the desired
scion rather than an entire scion
containing many buds.
Budding is a type of asexual reproduction in which a new organism develops from an outgrowth or bud due to cell division at
one particular site. ... These buds develop into tiny individuals and, when fully mature, detach from the parent body and
become new independent individuals.
CTTO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_w051zyackM&t=7s&ab_channel=fruitmentor
SLIDESMANIA.COM
Cutting - The leaves are removed
and the stems are cut 10 inches
long. One—half
of the cutting is inserted into the
soil. Example: Sinigwelas,
Kamoteng kahoy

SOURCES OF FRUIT BEARING TREES
Agricultural Institution- a school that offers a course related to agriculture and
other plant studies.
SLIDESMANIA.COM
SOURCES OF FRUIT BEARING TREES
Department of Agriculture-responsible for any agricultural activities in terms of
vegetables and fruits.
Bureau of Plant Industry-they develop scientific improvement for each plant
species present in a locality and adjacent places.
SLIDESMANIA.COM
CARING FOR SEEDLINGS
1. Proper Selection of Seeds-the use of good and healthy seeds ensures
quality and high yield; it means a big income for the growers.
2. Testing of Seeds- plant growers can determine the germinating ability
of the seeds by testing them.
3. Storing of Seeds-the life of the seed must be ensured when storing it.
SLIDESMANIA.COM
Methods of Testing of Seeds
a. Visual inspection method
b. Dish Method
c. Rag-Doll Method
d. Seed Box Method
SLIDESMANIA.COM
a. Visual inspection method
• Scoop a handful of seeds. Check the composition of
the seeds.
• Remove immature, broken, undersized, diseased
and infested seeds, weed seeds, stones and other
impurities.
b. Dish Method
• Line the dish with moist tissue paper and
some seeds.
• Cover it with another sheet of moist
tissue paper.
SLIDESMANIA.COM
c. Rag-Doll Method
• Place the seeds apart from each other in a damp
cloth.
• Roll the cloth on a piece of stick to circulate air.
• Count the number of seeds that germinated after
3 days.
d. Seed Box Method
• Place several seeds in a seed box and sprinkle
with water.
• Count the seeds that germinated after several
days.
• Compute for the percentage of germination using
this formula: Number of Seeds Germinated Number
of seeds sown x100 = Percentage of Germination

Module 3_ ORCHARD FARMS AND PLANT PROPAGATION .pptx

  • 3. SLIDESMANIA.COM ORCHARD FARMS AND PLANT PROPAGATION (Agriculture) Module 3:
  • 4. SLIDESMANIA.COM What I Need to Know 1. identify different types of orchard farms; After going through this module, you are expected to: 2. identify trees suited for orchard gardening based on location, climate, and market demands; 3. know the proper way of planting/propagating trees and fruit bearing trees 4. perform the proper way of planting, propagating trees and fruit bearing trees; 5. appreciate the ways on how to care for seedlings.
  • 5. SLIDESMANIA.COM Types of Orchard Farms This lesson will discuss the different types of Orchard Farms that can be considered in planting trees most especially for food production. It comprises fruit- or nut producing trees which are generally grown for commercial production. You will also discover the appropriate trees that suit your place, since not all trees are equally well-suited for every planting site or in every climate that we have in our country.
  • 6. SLIDESMANIA.COM Orchard Farm Orchard is a feature of a large garden intended for planting trees or shrubs that are maintained for food production.
  • 7. SLIDESMANIA.COM Let’s take a look at these pictures, can you spot the difference between the two? Which of the two pictures has the most fruit-bearing tree? Why
  • 8. SLIDESMANIA.COM Different Types of Orchard Fruit Orchards Nut Orchards Seed Orchards
  • 9. SLIDESMANIA.COM Different Types of Orchard 1. Fruit Orchards- this orchard include any facility that focused on growing tree- bearing fruits such as citrus fruits, papaya, mango, lime and avocado.
  • 10. SLIDESMANIA.COM 2. Nut Orchards – these orchards include facilities that produce nuts such as cashew, pecan, walnut, almond, cacao, coconut, and pine.
  • 11. SLIDESMANIA.COM 3. Seed Orchards- these orchards focus primarily on growing trees that produce seeds sold for commercial distribution or resale purposes. They can be sold to agricultural companies or used for food production.
  • 12. SLIDESMANIA.COM TREES SUITED FOR ORCHARD GARDENING SHOULD BE BASED ON: Location Climate Market Demand
  • 13. SLIDESMANIA.COM 1. Location- It should be in a well-established fruit- growing region. ● Hill side ● Slope ● Valley ● Plain ● Elevated (Cold) ● Low (Warm)
  • 18. SLIDESMANIA.COM Plain Landbanana , coconut, mango Citrus fruits dragon fruits jackfruits guava Star apple santol
  • 20. SLIDESMANIA.COM Low Area (warm) banana , coconut, mango guava durian
  • 21. SLIDESMANIA.COM 2. Climate It should be suitable to grow the chosen fruit crops.
  • 22. SLIDESMANIA.COM Dry Season banana , pili nut, palm tree, dragon fruit, papaya , guava , star apple
  • 24. SLIDESMANIA.COM 3. Market Demand Market demand is the total quantity demanded across all consumers in a market for a given good. Aggregate demand is the total demand for all goods and services in an economy.
  • 25. SLIDESMANIA.COM Year-round Fruits banana, mango, citrus fruits, dragon fruit, papaya, coconut
  • 26. SLIDESMANIA.COM Seasonal Fruits jackfruit, santol ,guava, star apple
  • 27. SLIDESMANIA.COM Monsoon Season It is considered to be the best for planting evergreen fruit trees like citrus, mango, and guava. A monsoon is traditionally a seasonal reversing wind accompanied by corresponding changes in precipitation, but is now used to describe seasonal changes in atmospheric circulation and precipitation associated with the asymmetric heating of land and sea.
  • 28. SLIDESMANIA.COM Survey Survey will help you to increase your knowledge of trees or plants suited for your orchard. .

  • 34. SLIDESMANIA.COM Plant propagation Plant propagation is the process of reproducing or creating a new plant or seedling. It is an important part of gardening, whether outdoors or indoors. Plants are living things that grow either through their roots, stems and leaves of their flowers, fruits, and seeds. It is a method of growing new plants from seed or from parts of existing plants. This lesson will discuss the proper way of planting and propagating trees, their sources and ways to care for the seedlings.
  • 35. SLIDESMANIA.COM Plant propagation is the process that grows new plants from a variety of sources: seeds, cuttings, and other plant parts.
  • 36. SLIDESMANIA.COM Look at the pictures below, what do you observe?
  • 37. SLIDESMANIA.COM PROPER WAY OF PROPAGATING FRUIT-BEARING TREES 1. Sexual Propagation 2.Asexual Propagation
  • 38. SLIDESMANIA.COM Sexual Propagation- is the method of reproducing and multiplying plants using seeds. This is the most common and easiest method of propagating plants. Many fruit tree varieties are propagated from seeds
  • 39. SLIDESMANIA.COM Asexual Propagation- is the method of plant propagation that is done without the help of the reproductive organs of the plants. This is the production of new plants from leaves, stems and roots. It can be done manually, either naturally or using a scientific approach.
  • 40. SLIDESMANIA.COM Artificial Processes in Propagating Trees A tree is a tall plant with a trunk and branches made of wood. Trees can live for many years.A single tree has many roots. The roots carry nutrients and water from the ground through the trunk and branches to the leaves of the tree. They can also breathe in air.
  • 41. SLIDESMANIA.COM Artificial Processes in Propagating Trees 1. Marcotting or Air layering 2. Grafting 3. Budding 4. Cutting
  • 42. SLIDESMANIA.COM Marcotting or Air layering – this is the simplest method of propagating plants usually done during rainy season. It induces the stem to develop roots while it is still growing on the mother plant. CTTO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQyM81gOsP4&ab_channel=D%27rusticWorld
  • 43. SLIDESMANIA.COM Steps in marcotting: 1. Select the right branch. 2. Make a deep cut 3. Peel of the bark 4. Wrap it with a ball of soil 5. Wrap with plastic sheet 6. Tie the end 7. See the root through the plasting sheet 8. Remove the wrapper 9. Prune the rooted branch
  • 44. SLIDESMANIA.COM Grafting– a plant propagation method that involves inserting a scion into a stock so that it will form a union and grow together. CTTO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POw08yfozW0&ab_channel=AgriCAMBO
  • 45. SLIDESMANIA.COM Budding-this method of plant propagation that used single bud from the desired scion rather than an entire scion containing many buds. Budding is a type of asexual reproduction in which a new organism develops from an outgrowth or bud due to cell division at one particular site. ... These buds develop into tiny individuals and, when fully mature, detach from the parent body and become new independent individuals. CTTO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_w051zyackM&t=7s&ab_channel=fruitmentor
  • 46. SLIDESMANIA.COM Cutting - The leaves are removed and the stems are cut 10 inches long. One—half of the cutting is inserted into the soil. Example: Sinigwelas, Kamoteng kahoy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLD4Ux4z2aY&ab_channel=Greenplants
  • 47. SLIDESMANIA.COM SOURCES OF FRUIT BEARING TREES Commercial Nursery-ran by private individuals usually offering landscaping materials and services CTTO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeFnhz1lBk8& ab_channel=TheApocalypticKnight
  • 48. SLIDESMANIA.COM SOURCES OF FRUIT BEARING TREES Agricultural Institution- a school that offers a course related to agriculture and other plant studies.
  • 49. SLIDESMANIA.COM SOURCES OF FRUIT BEARING TREES Department of Agriculture-responsible for any agricultural activities in terms of vegetables and fruits. Bureau of Plant Industry-they develop scientific improvement for each plant species present in a locality and adjacent places.
  • 50. SLIDESMANIA.COM CARING FOR SEEDLINGS 1. Proper Selection of Seeds-the use of good and healthy seeds ensures quality and high yield; it means a big income for the growers. 2. Testing of Seeds- plant growers can determine the germinating ability of the seeds by testing them. 3. Storing of Seeds-the life of the seed must be ensured when storing it.
  • 51. SLIDESMANIA.COM Methods of Testing of Seeds a. Visual inspection method b. Dish Method c. Rag-Doll Method d. Seed Box Method
  • 52. SLIDESMANIA.COM a. Visual inspection method • Scoop a handful of seeds. Check the composition of the seeds. • Remove immature, broken, undersized, diseased and infested seeds, weed seeds, stones and other impurities. b. Dish Method • Line the dish with moist tissue paper and some seeds. • Cover it with another sheet of moist tissue paper.
  • 53. SLIDESMANIA.COM c. Rag-Doll Method • Place the seeds apart from each other in a damp cloth. • Roll the cloth on a piece of stick to circulate air. • Count the number of seeds that germinated after 3 days. d. Seed Box Method • Place several seeds in a seed box and sprinkle with water. • Count the seeds that germinated after several days. • Compute for the percentage of germination using this formula: Number of Seeds Germinated Number of seeds sown x100 = Percentage of Germination
