27. What is Electromagnetic Wave?
Also known as EM Wave
It has both electric and magnetic wave
It does not need a medium to travel
They differ from one another in terms of wavelength
and frequency
42. The Electromagnetic Theory
• Did you send text messages to somebody
today? Or have you ever tried cooking in a
microwave oven? Did you know that these
previously mentioned human activities make
use of microwaves? Microwaves carry
energy, and so with the other kinds of
electromagnetic waves. But what are
electromagnetic waves? How can these
waves become useful to us?

45. 1. What is the frequency of
radio waves with wavelength of
20 m?
46. What is the frequency of light
waves with wavelength of 5 X
10-7 m?

49. A ray, emitted from the sun, is shining through your
kitchen window into a prism. The prism then casts a
rainbow on the windowsill. You just so happen to have
a hand-held radiometer handy; closing your eyes you
place the instrument on a specific color of the rainbow.
You then open your eyes to see that the radiometer
measured the energy from that color at 3.0 x 10-
19 joules. Given Plank's constant of 6.6256 x 10-
34 joules/sec, what possible color did the radiometer
measure? How do we know this?
