▪ Student Attendance is determined by a headcount of students present in the
school at the time of inspection.

▪ AEOs are responsible for maintaining teachers’ attendance greater than 90% in the markaz
▪ Teacher Presence score is determined by a head count of physically present teachers in the school
▪ Teachers on training and exam duty are considered present.
▪ The teachers presence is calculated as:

▪ Any teacher that is not present in school must have his orders or leave approved by all
relevant authorities
▪ Any teacher coming within 40 minutes of the school starting time is considered late.
Any teacher coming after 40 minutes is considered absent.

▪ There are four basic school facilities that are monthly monitored: electricity,
drinking water, boundary walls and toilets.
▪ As the proxy head teacher, it is responsibility of the AEO to ensure that all school
facilities are fully functional at all times.
School facilities
Fans and lights in all rooms should be working for
electricity to be marked fully functional.
Boundary walls should surround the school
completely and should not have gaps.
There should be sufficient clean drinking water in
coolers or bottles for the students.
The toilets should be clean and useable. Toilet
should have a soap as well as sufficient water for
hand washing and flushing.

- Visit all schools of his/her markaz at least once in the month
- Observe the school routine using check list
- Discuss observations with the head teacher and set targets for
improvement
- Record observations in the check list
- Track progress during next visit

in the schools in an academic year
▪AEOs must ensure that the enrolment of a school should not
decrease in any school of his markaz during the year

Over Crowding & Multi-Grading
Teachers and Classrooms

▪ Over Crowding and Multi Grading is generally referred
to as OCMG.
▪ There are 2 indicators tracking the state of over
crowding and multi-grading in classrooms: one tracks
OCMG due to lack of teachers, while the other tracks
OCMG due to lack of classrooms
▪ AEOs are expected to assist the EDO in improving
OCMG score by providing information about the state
of his schools to the EDO.

▪ A school in your markaz performed poorly on LND assessment in September 2016
▪ The EDO is upset about the performance and wants you to improve it as soon as possible
▪ You have already distributed all schools with a kitabcha that provides sample questions
▪ How can you make sure that GGPS Dunya Pur meets the LND target by December 2016?

Here are some potential AEO responses to the improving LND activity.

▪ Discuss weak SLOs with him
▪ Ask if he has discussed last month’s performance with his teachers
▪ Ask if he has conducted weekly assessments
Coach

▪ Test if the teacher knows the SLOs himself/herself
▪ Observe a lesson on the weak SLOs to check if the teacher uses
effective teaching methodology
▪ Provide coaching support to the teacher based on the classroom
observations
Assess
students
regularly
▪ Conduct assessment of grade 3 using LND Kitabcha before and after
the lesson. (A copy of kitabcha is present in the training manual).

  • 9. 8 Student Attendance Student Attendance in a markaz % = Students physically present in the school Total students enrolled as per the enrolment register % ▪ There are three indicators to monthly monitor Student Attendance: Kachi, Primary and grades 1 to 12 ▪ Student Attendance is determined by a headcount of students present in the school at the time of inspection. ▪ In a markaz, the Student Attendance is calculated as:
  • 10. 9 What are the factors that impact attendance of students? ▪ On a blank paper, list all factors that influence Student Attendance of grade Kachi and 1-5? 10 minutes ▪ Discuss in groups of 5 20 minutes ▪ Discuss in plenary 20 minutes Group Activity
  • 12. 11 ▪ AEOs are responsible for maintaining teachers’ attendance greater than 90% in the markaz ▪ Teacher Presence score is determined by a head count of physically present teachers in the school ▪ Teachers on training and exam duty are considered present. ▪ The teachers presence is calculated as: 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞% = Teachers physically present in school + teachers on training and exam duty Total filled teachers in the markaz % ▪ Any teacher that is not present in school must have his orders or leave approved by all relevant authorities ▪ Any teacher coming within 40 minutes of the school starting time is considered late. Any teacher coming after 40 minutes is considered absent. Teacher Presence
  • 14. 13 ▪ There are four basic school facilities that are monthly monitored: electricity, drinking water, boundary walls and toilets. ▪ As the proxy head teacher, it is responsibility of the AEO to ensure that all school facilities are fully functional at all times. School facilities Fans and lights in all rooms should be working for electricity to be marked fully functional. Boundary walls should surround the school completely and should not have gaps. There should be sufficient clean drinking water in coolers or bottles for the students. The toilets should be clean and useable. Toilet should have a soap as well as sufficient water for hand washing and flushing.
  • 16. 15 - Visit all schools of his/her markaz at least once in the month - Observe the school routine using check list - Discuss observations with the head teacher and set targets for improvement - Record observations in the check list - Track progress during next visit The AEO is responsible for:-
  • 18. 17 ▪Retention is defined as the percentage of students retained in the schools in an academic year ▪AEOs must ensure that the enrolment of a school should not decrease in any school of his markaz during the year Retention % = Enrolment in a particular month Highest enrollment during current academic calendar % Retention
  • 19. 18 What are the factors that impact retention of students? ▪ On a blank paper, list all factors why students drop out of schools ? 10 minutes ▪ Discuss in groups of 5 20 minutes ▪ Discuss in plenary 20 minutes Group Activity
  • 20. 1919 Over Crowding & Multi-Grading Teachers and Classrooms
  • 21. 20 ▪ Over Crowding and Multi Grading is generally referred to as OCMG. ▪ There are 2 indicators tracking the state of over crowding and multi-grading in classrooms: one tracks OCMG due to lack of teachers, while the other tracks OCMG due to lack of classrooms ▪ AEOs are expected to assist the EDO in improving OCMG score by providing information about the state of his schools to the EDO.

  • 24. 23 Here are some potential AEO responses to the improving LND activity. Potential responses Involve the head teacher ▪ Tell him about the performance of his school on LND ▪ Discuss weak SLOs with him ▪ Ask if he has discussed last month’s performance with his teachers ▪ Ask if he has conducted weekly assessments Coach teacher ▪ Test if the teacher knows the SLOs himself/herself ▪ Observe a lesson on the weak SLOs to check if the teacher uses effective teaching methodology ▪ Provide coaching support to the teacher based on the classroom observations Assess students regularly ▪ Conduct assessment of grade 3 using LND Kitabcha before and after the lesson. (A copy of kitabcha is present in the training manual).
