Sales of printed travel guidebooks have sharply declined over the past decade in both the US and UK. In response, Google purchased travel guide publisher Frommer's in 2012 but stopped printing guides the following year. Meanwhile, city guide publisher In Your Pocket has adapted by expanding their guides online and via mobile apps while still printing over 5 million copies of their 75 city guides. Their presentation argues that while printed guides are becoming less common, they still offer advantages over digital guides in terms of usability, note-taking, and functioning without batteries or internet access.
