Smart Design - Content-first, Fast, Informed, Refined. WordCamp NYC 2014
Fast, simple, SMART. Mobile devices have forever changed the way we interact with content. Now we have to consider many things such as HiDPI graphics, responsive design, speed, UI/UX patterns, touch target sizes, gestures, and more. All while not losing track of what’s important: Content.
We’re going to discuss the influence of mobile on design trends and learn implementation techniques of smart design.
This is a short slide show that goes throught the history of cell phone technology and how it has progressed through the mobile marketing stage into the machine it has become.
Responsive web design has taken our industry by storm and with good reason: it helps us improve our reach with less effort. But incorporating responsive design is not the goal, meeting our user’s needs is. Responsive design is not an end in itself… it’s just the beginning.
As a fitting way to kick off our new workshop series, we’ve asked two internationally-renown mobile web and responsive design experts—Brad Frost (of This is Responsive, and Pattern Lab fame) and Aaron Gustafson (author of Adaptive Web Design)—to come and teach us everything we need to know about working in this multi-device reality.
For the first part of the day, Brad and Aaron will survey the landscape of responsive design, covering:
* broad concepts,
* strategies,
* the design process & deliverables,
*emerging design patterns and principles, and
* development best practices and considerations.
Then, we’ll break into small groups to tackle some thorny responsive challenges through discussions, sketching, and maybe even a little coding while Brad & Aaron provide real-time feedback and push us to go further. At the end, we’ll share our findings with the class and get additional feedback from the experts.

This is part 3 of the "Fragmented Mobile Ecosystem" decks I've done over the last 7 years. This 2017 version focuses on the journey of an entrepreneur, the state of mobile development today, where are we at (and going) and the journey of pivoting a young startup as iPhone and Android stunned the mobile world in Fall 2008. Presented at Mobile Monday Calgary #30, it also includes some advice for entrants in the technology field... and lastly it covers some resources that are available; developers networks, public funding and grants, Mobile Monday global.
In the first deck of 2009, I look at the early mobile platform wars: http://www.slideshare.net/stebankag/wi-tec-stephen-king-commercialization-challenges-of-mobile-software-development-in-a-fragmented-mobile-ecosystem-mob4hire
In the second 2nd deck in 2012, I update for how the fragmented mobile ecosystem is affecting mobile enterprise development, and how enterprises are shifting billions of dollars to adopt mobile processes into the internal, customer and partner relationships.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere, promising self-driving cars, medical breakthroughs, and new ways of working. But how do you separate hype from reality? How can your company apply AI to solve real business problems?
Here’s what AI learnings your business should keep in mind for 2017.
Study: The Future of VR, AR and Self-Driving CarsLinkedIn
We asked LinkedIn members worldwide about their levels of interest in the latest wave of technology: whether they’re using wearables, and whether they intend to buy self-driving cars and VR headsets as they become available. We asked them too about their attitudes to technology and to the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the devices that they use. The answers were fascinating – and in many cases, surprising.
This SlideShare explores the full results of this study, including detailed market-by-market breakdowns of intention levels for each technology – and how attitudes change with age, location and seniority level. If you’re marketing a tech brand – or planning to use VR and wearables to reach a professional audience – then these are insights you won’t want to miss.

Instead of Introducing Mojito, I want to recap on the state of the industry, and specifically on a new trending about frameworks and platforms that are trying to blur the line between server and client. Mojito, MeteorJS, DerbyJS and others are part of that group. I also want to provide more details about the motivations, challenges and the state of the Yahoo! Cocktails platform.
According to jqtouch.com, jQTouch is a “jQuery plugin for mobile Web development on the iPhone, Android, iPod Touch, and other forward-thinking devices.” Web apps can easily be created using jQTouch, and they resemble native apps. jQTouch includes native WebKit animations, automatic navigation, extensions for geo-location and offline capabilities, and themes built specifically for mobile WebKit browsers like the above-mentioned mobile devices. In this session, Chad Mairn will explain the differences between native and Web apps, highlight some free and useful web development tools, and will then demonstrate how to install and customize jQTouch in order to help kick start your library’s mobile Web presence.
Web frameworks are in a time of transition, as technologies like rich Ajax applications and HTML5 emerge. In this presentation, open source frameworks expert Matt Raible reveals which frameworks are fading fast and which will remain relevant for the near and far-off future.

So, your web application is slow. You read all the books, follow all advices, but users are still complaining. What now? It turns out that there are really good tools out there to help you, whether your problem is slow loading third party widgets, badly performing javascript or heavy paint times for DOM elements. But which one is right for you?
This hands on session will give guide help you assemble your own toolbox with the the different (mostly free) tools available for analyzing and troubleshooting web performance. You'll learn what you can expect from high level tools that measure page load time through synthetic or real user monitoring, down to low level javascript profiling and graphic rendering. We'll dive straight into the advanced parts of WebPagetest, Chrome Dev Tools, Dynatrace Ajax Edition and others, and you'll also get to know how to do most of this on actual mobile devices.

UiPath Test Automation using UiPath Test Suite series, part 4DianaGray10
Welcome to UiPath Test Automation using UiPath Test Suite series part 4. In this session, we will cover Test Manager overview along with SAP heatmap.
The UiPath Test Manager overview with SAP heatmap webinar offers a concise yet comprehensive exploration of the role of a Test Manager within SAP environments, coupled with the utilization of heatmaps for effective testing strategies.
Participants will gain insights into the responsibilities, challenges, and best practices associated with test management in SAP projects. Additionally, the webinar delves into the significance of heatmaps as a visual aid for identifying testing priorities, areas of risk, and resource allocation within SAP landscapes. Through this session, attendees can expect to enhance their understanding of test management principles while learning practical approaches to optimize testing processes in SAP environments using heatmap visualization techniques
What will you get from this session?
1. Insights into SAP testing best practices
2. Heatmap utilization for testing
3. Optimization of testing processes
4. Demo
Topics covered:
Execution from the test manager
Orchestrator execution result
Defect reporting
SAP heatmap example with demo

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.
Let's dive deeper into the world of ODC! Ricardo Alves (OutSystems) will join us to tell all about the new Data Fabric. After that, Sezen de Bruijn (OutSystems) will get into the details on how to best design a sturdy architecture within ODC.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
