                             According to Kate Maddox, B2B, Jan. 16, 2012, “With 36% of U.S. adults
                             now owning smartphones and 5% owning tablet computers, according to
                             Nielsen, the mobile market is set to explode?

                             eMarketer projects that 10.8% of the U.S. population (all ages) now use a
                             tablet computer at least once a month, and tablet penetration is
                             projected to reach 27.7% of the U.S. population by 2014.

                             Marketers are moving away from a media environment in which they
                             consider traditional, online and other forms of media to a
                             paid/owned/earned model. (Paid is for purchased media; owned is for
                             original content; and earned is for social media.)

                             “There is much more focus on a holistic approach across content and the
                             marketing investment for clients. Paid/owned/earned is becoming the
                             standard model,” said Lou Aversano, who was named COO of Ogilvy New
                             York in June, after serving as global managing director of Ogilvy &
                             Mather.

                             Part of Aversano's new role is looking at how the agency can deliver the
                             best services to meet client needs in this new P/O/E environment.

                             Clients, too, are developing new models to distribute content across
                             paid/owned/earned media.

                             “Our editorial strategy is to become like a publisher, build an editorial

                                  tablet or operating system.

                                  It's called Responsive Design, and it's intended to connect with the public
                                  in many new ways. The design also presents content based on the
                                  device, providing device-specific apps for BlackBerries, Android, iPhone
                                  and iPad users. And it's a road map for other agencies embracing mobile
                                  apps.

                                  Gartner, Inc. has identified what it believes will be the most important
                                  mobile applications in 2012. Focusing on high-end devices with an
                                  average selling price of more than $300, analysts have identified the top
                                  10 cutting-edge technologies and trends for 2012.

                                  Winning mobile apps will have unique features that cater to the mobile
                                  environment rather than act as a mobile extension of their online peers.

                                  “Mobile applications will be a highly competitive marketplace that
                                  attracts the interest of many stakeholders,” said Sandy Shen, research
                                  director at Gartner. “Increasingly, mobile applications will define the
                                  user experience on high-end devices and device vendors that proactively
                                  integrate innovative apps and technologies at the platform layer will
                                  have the competitive edge.”
                                  Mobile apps themselves will not only generate good revenue ($15.9
                                  billion in expected end-user spending in 2012) but will also drive

                                  expects brand companies to increasingly shift their marketing budget to
                                  the mobile channel, and experiment with cutting-edge apps to capture
                                  marketing and sales opportunities. Companies, as well as technology and

                                  make their products stand out from the pack, enhance brand image and
                                  retain user loyalty.
