 A mobile phone is a wireless handheld device 
that allows users to make calls and send text 
messages, among other features. The earliest 
generation of mobile phones could only make and 
receive calls. Today’s mobile phones, however, are 
packed with many additional features, such as 
Web browsers, games, cameras, video players and 
even navigational systems. 
 A mobile phone may also be known as a cellular 
phone or simply cell phone.
 All mobile phones have a number of features in 
common, but manufacturers also try to 
differentiate their own products by 
implementing additional functions to make 
them more attractive to consumers. This has 
led to great innovation in mobile phone 
development over the past 20 years. 
 Extra features include a clock, calculator, 
calendar, alarm features, basic games and to-do- 
list.
 Sim Card:- 
 Gsm features phones require a small microchip 
called subscriber identity module or sim card 
to function.The first sim card was made in 1991 
by Munich smart card maker. 
 Multi card Hybrid Phones:- 
 A hybrid phone can hold up to 4 sim cards. 
From 2010 onwards they become popular in 
India and Indonesia and other emerging 
markets.
 In 1983 the Dynatac was the first to be 
commercially available. 
 From 1983 to 2014 worldwide mobile phone 
subscriptions grew from zero to 7 billion 
penetrating 100% the global population and 
reaching the bottom of economic pyramid.
 The common components found on all mobile 
phones are: 
 A Battery. 
 An input mechanism (keypad or touch screen) 
 Basic mobile phone services to allow users to 
make calls and send text messages. 
 A screen which echoes the user’s talking, 
display text messages, contacts and more.
 In General: 
 Mobile phones are used for a variety of purposes, 
including keeping in touch with family members, 
conducting business and having access to a 
telephone in the event of an emergency. The 
Mobile phone also has been used in a variety of 
diverse contexts in society, for example: 
 Some organizations assist victims of domestic 
violence by providing mobile phones for use in 
emergencies. 
 In many countries they are used to provide Mobile 
Banking service.
 The United Nations reported that mobile phones 
have spread faster than any other technology and 
can improve the livelihood of poorest people in 
developing countries. 
 Mobile technology has also facilitates activism and 
public journalism being explored by Reuters and 
Yahoo. 
 In Mali and other African countries people used to 
travel from village to village to let friends and 
relatives know about weddings, births and other 
events , which are now avoided within mobile 
phone coverage areas.
 Mobile Phones are also commonly used to collect 
location data. While the phone is turned on, the 
geographical location of a mobile phone location 
can be determined easily. 
 The TV Industry has recently started using mobile 
phones to drive live TV viewing through mobile 
Apps, 86% of Americans use their mobile phones 
while watching TV. 
 In parts of the world; mobile sharing is common. 
There are obvious economic benefits, but often 
familial customs and traditional gender roles play 
a part.
 There are several mobile phone manufacturers 
across the globe and each manufacturing 
company has its own brands depending on the 
marketing and technological demands. 
 Examples of manufacturing firms and their 
brands are:
 Mobile phone can make and receive calls 
over a radio link whilst moving around a 
wide geographic area. It does so by 
connecting to a cellular network 
provided by a mobile phone operator, 
allowing access to the public telephone 
network.
 Cell Phones are having great influence in our 
lives and are very convenient to keep with us. 
Cell Phones are a faster and more effective way 
to transfer information. 
 If something of great utility it will surely have 
its own problems as well. 
 In earlier times cell phone used to be a craze, 
symbol of money and success but nowadays 
even kids find it a necessary of life.
 Nowadays cell phones are not just phone calls, 
they are about messaging, video, songs, games, 
alarm clock etc. so one equipment, lots of uses. 
There are some advantages of mobile phone 
are given: 
 Helpful in Texting 
 Improve communication 
 Use for advertisement 
 Utilization of Time
 You can carry a mobile phone with you so you 
do not miss important calls. 
 You can connect even from other country to 
another by using roaming service. 
 You can listen music, play games when you 
are bored. 
 All applications are in one device.
There are also some disadvantages of mobile 
phone: 
 Mobile phone towers 
 Unexpected phone calls 
 Increase expenses 
 Time destruction 
 In Approach of everyone 
 Disturb you
 People use the phone while driving, and this 
cause problems. 
 They can limit your face to face time with 
friends and family. 
 Can be hard for old people to use. 
 If Mobile stolen can be misused. ( Picture, 
mobile numbers) 
 Because of their smaller size, they can be easy 
to lose.
 In conclusion everything has it on advantages 
and disadvantages, also mobile phone. So you 
need to use it carefully. 
 Having said all about cell phones, I think they are 
one of the biggest boons humanity ever had. If 
used properly and sensibly, cell phone can be 
wonderful utility in life and most of its advantages 
will simply be insignificant. 
 I think people should learn how to use mobile 
phones properly before buying them, which is the 
mobile culture. Mobile phones are not bad by 
themselves. It just depends on the way we use 
them.
