Smartphones and mobile phone technology have evolved greatly since their inception in the mid-20th century. The first mobile phone was used by Swedish police in 1946 and could only make 6 calls before draining the car battery. Major developments in the 1970s-1990s led to smaller phones with better batteries and the introduction of text messaging. Smartphones emerged in the early 1990s, integrating internet access and other applications. Today, smartphones are multifunctional devices used for communication, entertainment, organization, work, and more. While mobile technology connects people and enhances modern life, some studies have also linked excessive phone use to increased stress, sleep issues, and potential health risks.
